  1. Winifred Marie Snyder, age 97 of DuBois, PA died peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Christ The King Manor. Born on June 16, 1923 in Tonawanda, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Lyle (Broughton) Lynch. On October 16, 1942 she married her husband of 47 years Franklin J. Snyder. He preceded her in death on August 21, 1989. Winifred worked in the nursery at the DuBois Hospital for many years. She also worked at Rolla Jensen in DuBois for 13 years. She is survived by 1 daughter (Regina Golubski of DuBois, PA), 5 granddaughters and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 1 son (Albert Snyder), 1 daughter (Marjorie (Gary) Bundy), an infant grandson (David Golubski), an infant great granddaughter (Sophia Fillman), 4 brothers and 2 sisters.   2. Doris J. Andrulonis, age 84 of Sykesville, PA died Monday, July 27, 2020 at Christ The King Manor. Born on August 20, 1935 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Stella (Vilkinofsky) Fye. On October 1, 1960 she married Richard “Andy” Andrulonis. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2014. Doris was a homemaker, had worked at The Peaceable Kingdom for over 25 years and previously worked at Rockwell International Manufacturing. She was a member of the Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Sykesville, where she was a member of the Rosary Society and always active in church affairs. She also loved to knit. Doris is survived by 1 son (Richard Andrulonis & his wife Jill of Sykesville, PA), 1 brother (James Fye & his wife Fran of Sykesville, PA), 1 sister in law (Carol Fye of Youngstown, OH) and 1 granddaughter (Melia Andrulonis). She was preceded in death by 1 brother (Fred Fye). Due to our current circumstances there will be no public visitation and a private funeral service will be held with Father Bill Barron officiating.   3. LaVerne M. Gilbert, age 71 of DuBois, PA died Saturday, July 25, 2020 at her home. Born on November 6, 1948 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Ethel (Polifko) Sweka. On July 6, 1968 at the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church in Sykesville, PA, she married James A. “Gib” Gilbert, Jr. He preceded her in death on August 10, 2014. LaVerne retired from Owens Illinois in Brookville after 15 years of service. She was also the owner and operator of LaVerne Gilbert’s Beauty Salon for 30 years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church in Sykesville and she loved crafting. She was also an associate member of the American Legion Post 17. LaVerne and her family were very active in many sports programs in the DuBois area lending their time and talent to organizations such as the DuBois Little League and the DuBois Football Boosters to name a few. Her greatest gift was her family and she loved being with them, following their many activities. LaVerne is survived by 4 children: (Andrew Gilbert of DuBois, PA, Becky Pasternak and her husband, Charles of DuBois, PA, Joel Gilbert and his wife, Camala of Bellwood, PA, and Gretchen Clark and her husband, Jim of DuBois, PA,), 2 brothers; (Gabriel Sweka & his wife Karen of Sykesville, PA and Bernard Sweka of Ft. Walton Beach, FL), 8 grandchildren (Casey Stephens and Ryan Pasternak, Peyton Gilbert, Adisyn and Carsyn Gilbert, and Kaden, Madix, and Jimi Clark). She was preceded in death by 1 grandson (Christopher Clark). Due to our current circumstances, there will be no public visitation. A public Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 11:00 AM from Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church with Father Vasyl Banyk as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.   4. Jaxon Mitchell Cahill, age 3 months of DuBois, PA died Thursday, July 23, 2020 at his home. Born on April 13, 2020, he was the son of Phillip and Chelsea (Hibbard) Cahill. They survive and live in DuBois. Jaxon loved to be held and always had a smile on his face when he heard music. Jaxon is also survived by his paternal grandparents; (Patrick Cahill of DuBois, PA and Pamela Vancore of Laingsburg, MI) and maternal grandparents; (Daniel Hibbard & his wife Chrissy and Pamela Riley Roberts & her wife Barbara all of DuBois, PA).   5. Joan (Marshall) Leis , age 90, passed away peacefully July 23, 2020. She was born February 11, 1930 in Luthersburg, PA (Brady Township) to Arthur and Grace Marshall (Huey) of Luthersburg. She married her longtime friend and love, Howard Leis, in June of 1955 who preceded her in death in 2006. Joan loved to be around her friends and family. She was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church. She would often be found playing various card games with friends, taking dance lessons, or listening to country music while she bird-watched from the comfort of her sun-room. For many years, Joan worked at Lakewood Hospital in Ohio as a secretary. Joan and Howard had one child named Gregg Douglas Leis in 1956 who preceded her death in 1972. Joan had one brother, Gene Marshall who preceded her death in 2007. Nephew, Brent Marshall who preceded her death in 2008. She is survived by her brother and wife Dennis and Barbara Marshall of Columbus, Ohio, sister-in-law, Rose Marshall of DuBois; niece and husband, Jessica (Marshall) and Jim Sutton of Geneva, New York, Melinda (Marshall) and Craig Cramer of York, PA; Amy Marshall of DuBois; great-niece and nephews, Shelby Peters(Marshall), Meg Cramer, Steven Marshall and Cayden Cramer; plus five great-great nieces and nephews. All of these she loved and touched deeply. Due to our current circumstances, there will be no public visitation A private family funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 11 a.m. from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Pastor Brett Dinger officiating.   6. Paul L. Johnson, age 87 of DuBois, PA died Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at his home. Born on December 4, 1932 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Arthur and Shirley (Muholland) Johnson. On October 4, 1958 he married his wife of 61 years, Catherine A. (Liedl) Johnson. She survives. Paul was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Army. Paul retired from Triangle Auto Springs after 24 ½ years of service. Previous to that, he had worked at the Jackson China Company in Falls Creek and the DuBois Brewing Company. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church and was always busy doing something. Paul was charismatic and enjoyed being in the outdoors and working. He was a collector of ALL things and enjoyed being around people. Above all, he loved his family. Paul is survived by 6 children (Barbara Cook & her husband Steve of Sykesville, PA; Jackie Andrulonis & her husband Tim; Jim Johnson & his wife Dana; Jean Beckes & her husband Eric; and Tom Johnson and his fiancé Denise, all of DuBois, PA; and Mark Johnson & his wife Leigh of Charlotte, NC.) a brother (Charles Johnson of Fredrick, MD), grandchildren; (Steven Cook, Cristy Davis, Mary Beth Robinson, Brady Johnson, Zach Johnson, Karley Johnson, Carrie Lockard, Kathy Beckes, Keaton Beckes, Ainsley Johnson, Lindsey Johnson, Emily Johnson and Caroline Johnson), step grandchildren; (Jarred Andrulonis, Jayla Andrulonis, Ben Pfingstler and Jenna Pfingstler), and great grandchildren; (Jayda Robinson, Jasmine Robinson, Aaden Lockard, Carson Lockard, Reagan Lockard, Atti Pompeii and Brinley Davis).   7. Todd M. Horn, age 48 of Fogelsville, PA died Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Allentown, PA. Born on January 8, 1972 in DuBois, PA he was the son of Allison “Sonny” Horn and Mary Lou (Paolinellie) Horn. His father survives and lives in Rockton, PA, his mother preceded him in death. Todd was a 1990 graduate of DuBois Area High School. He was the Vice President of Dries Do It Best Center in Macungie, PA. He loved baseball and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He loved the Dave Matthews Band, was very eco-friendly and known as a very hard worker. Above all, he cherished his time with his daughter, who was the greatest joy in his life. Todd is survived by his daughter (Rachel Horn of Fogelsville, PA), 2 brothers; (Michael A. Horn & his wife Sherri of Rosenberg, TX and Mark J. Horn and his wife Tisha of Winter Garden, FL), Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 from 5 – 8 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.   8. Jean L. McDonald, age 94 of DuBois, PA died Friday July 17th at Nelson’s Golden Years. Jean was born on May 6, 1926 in Bakers Summit, PA. She was the daughter of John and Rose (Klotz) Myers. She was proud to be from Bedford County, and enjoyed keeping in touch with her many relatives there. A proud 1944 graduate of Roaring Spring High School, Jean went on to the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1947 with her RN degree and later attended Slippery Rock University for advanced nursing courses. Jean was employed at Altoona Hospital from 1947-1950 and was in the Nurses Cadet program at Altoona Hospital during World War II. Jean married William G. McDonald on May 24, 1950. She moved to Falls Creek where she would live for the next 65 years. Jean and Bill were members of the Falls Creek United Methodist Church. Her husband preceded her in death in 2012. Working at the Reynoldsville Medical Center, Maple Avenue Hospital and DRMC, Jean had a long and dedicated career in healthcare. Jean especially treasured her memories of working at Maple Avenue (1951-1993) and her friends there. She served as a nurse, Director of Nursing, and later in Risk Management, Quality Improvement, and Regulatory Compliance. Jean touched many lives with her compassion. She was often stopped by individuals who wanted to share that they recognized her and remembered her kindness when they had been ill in the hospital or had a new baby years earlier. One of her most shared memories was delivering a baby who would go on to become her beloved physician Dr. James O’Bryon. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. O’Bryon and his staff for the wonderful care she received over the years. Jean had such a heart for service to others. She was a Trustee at Falls Creek United Methodist Church, an Ombudsman for Jefferson County Office of the Aging, a member of the DuBois Nurses Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, Nurses Alumni at Altoona Hospital and the Christ the King Auxiliary. She served on the Board of Directors for the DuBois Nursing Home, the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, DuBois YMCA and DuSan Ambulance. Playing cards with her friends and sending notes and cards to keep in touch were some of Jean’s favorite pastimes. She was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan, and also enjoyed traveling with the Brookville Seniors group. She had a great gift of music which she joyously shared with others -- she was a soloist at many weddings and events and sang in the church choir and with the DuBois Community Christian Choir. She played the piano beautifully without ever learning to read music. Jean became a resident at Nelson’s Golden Years six years ago after years of volunteering there for her dear friend Kathy Nelson. She loved her Golden Years family. A special thank you to Jackie Syktich and the Golden Years Staff for loving and caring for her, and for welcoming her back to her home this week after a hospital stay. Jean is survived by her daughter Becky McDonald Deutsch of Gibsonia, PA, grandchildren Carrie Deutsch (Jesse Takosky) and Andy Deutsch, and brother Tom Myers (Venus) of Estero, FL. She loved her many nieces,nephews and cousins.She loved her nephew Perry (Cindy) Franco of Holland, MI like a son. She was preceded in death by her son William Myers McDonald and her brother John “Sonny” Myers. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2020 from 2 – 4 PM & 6 – 8 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. Social distancing regulations will be observed.   9. Lola M. Johns, Age 87 of Brockway, Pa died Saturday, July 18, 2020 at her home. Born on August 28, 1932 in Brockway, Pa, she was the daughter of the late Leo Bazzoli & Edith (Parolari) Bazzoli Wieck. She was preceded in death by her step father (Harry Wieck). On July 15, 1953, she married her husband of 67 years. Stanley L. “Squirt” Johns. He survives. Lola, along with her husband “Squirt”, was the co-owner and operator of The Johns Garage and Parts as well as MIF Inc., both in Brockway, PA. Previous to that, she had worked for Paris Cleaning and Rockwell International Manufacturing. She loved cooking for her family and doting on her granddaughters. Lola is survived by her children (Edward Johns and Joni Paladino & her husband John, both of Brockway, PA) 2 granddaughters (Jacey Tygert & her husband Andrew, and Jada Paladino), and a brother (Evolut Leo “Buzz” Bazzoli of Philadelphia, PA). He was the son of Daniel and Maria (Duttry) Wright and the brother of Aubree and Annie Wright. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents (Kirk & Nancy Duttry of Reynoldsville, PA ), paternal grandparents (Mark & Pamela Wright of Ridgway, PA), great grandparents (Evelyn Hoare of Reynoldsville, PA, Fred & Pauline Duttry of Falls Creek, PA and Sonya Wright of Ridgway, PA), uncle Jason Duttry & his wife Ashlee, uncle Timothy Wright & his wife Heidi and numerous cousins.   11. Bruce A. Davis, Sr., age 43 of Reynoldsville, PA, died Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at his home. Born on May 5, 1977, in DuBois, PA, he was the son of Anna Becker Davis. She survives. He worked for Jewell Electric. Bruce enjoyed working on cars and four-wheelers. He was a “Mister Fix It.” He survived by 1 son (Bruce A. Davis, Jr.), 1 daughter (Kayla Beattie), 1 brother (John Davis), 2 sisters;(Robin Tapper & her husband Troy and Tracy Davis, all of Reynoldsville, PA), 2 grandchildren, 3 nephews and 2 nieces.   12. Guy W. DePello, age 86 of DuBois, PA died Thursday, July 16, 2020 at his home. Born on October 13, 1933 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Guy and Martha (Mehok) DePello, Jr. He married Jane (Keyser) DePello. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2014. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. Guy retired from Osburn Machine Shop in DuBois, PA after many years of service. Previous to that, he had worked at National Fuel Gas. He was a member of the James J. Patterson Post 813 Veterans of Foreign Wars, George G. Montgomery American Legion Post 17 and St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church. Guy is survived by 1 son (Daniel J. DePello of DuBois, PA) and 1 sister (Mary Jane Rusonis of DuBois, PA), 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.   13. Alice P. Deiaco, Age 100, of DuBois, PA died Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at the DuBois Nursing Home. Born on July 3, 1920 in Tyler, PA, she was the daughter of the late Rocco & Maggie (Manta) Deiaco. Alice lived for 42 years in Baltimore Maryland where she worked as a secretary. She relocated back to the DuBois Area in 1982. Alice was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church. She is survived by a sister, Lucille “Lucy” Deiaco of Milford, DE, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her 3 brothers (Carmen, Vincent “Jimmy”, and Cosmo “Kelly” Deiaco), 3 sisters (Mary, Joann “Jenny” and Ida Virginia Deiaco), and infant twin sisters. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.   14. Vincent D. “Perry” Walp, age 92 of DuBois, PA died Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Christ The King Manor. Born on July 16, 1927 in Lehighton, PA, he was the son of the late Perry and Esther (Sebring) Walp. On August 23, 1952 he married the love of his life Gwendolyn (Kern) Walp in Lehighton, PA. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2018. Perry was a veteran of the United States Navy having served as a Seaman in World War II. He retired in 1986 from the Federal Aviation Administration where he worked in management for 30 years. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in DuBois, and was a member of the Orioles Lodge. Perry loved spending time with family and family pets, golfing with his grandchildren and working in his yard. Perry is survived by his daughters;(Robin Kressley of DuBois, PA and Kerry Henry of Southlake, TX), daughter in law (Dawn Walp of Carlisle, PA) and 7 grandchildren; (Shawn Kressley & his wife Kelli and Ryan Kressley, Jarred Walp & his wife Colleen, Carissa Baldino & her husband Russell and Logan, Brooke and Carys Henry), great granddaughter (Caroline Walp),2 Brothers (Mark Walp of Santa Rosa, CA, and Donalp Walp of Allentown, PA) and 1 sister( Jean Metzger of York, PA). He was preceded in death by 1 son (Scott Walp) 5 sisters (Thelma Reich, Ethel Bonner, Ruth Franko, Grace Long, and Blanche Wolfersberger) and 1 brother (Richard Walp).   15. Linda Mae Solida, age 57 of DuBois, PA died Friday, July 10, 2020 near Parker Dam State Park from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Born on January 6, 1963 in Kane, PA, she was the daughter of the late Allen T. and Dollie Mae (Finn) Walker, Sr. On January 15, 1994 she married Michael Solida. He survives. Linda was the treatment coordinator at the office of Dr. Jonathon Cole, DMD for 24 years. She holds an Associate Business Degree from Jamestown Business College in Jamestown, NY. She was a member of the Anderson Creek Sportsman’s Club, enjoyed cooking and baking and going bow hunting with her husband. Linda is survived by her children; (Nicole Bolsar & her husband Brandon of Aurora, OH and Allen Solida of Lacey, WA), 1 granddaughter (Emilia Bolsar), 2 sisters; (Patricia Fowler and Darlene O’Connell) and 1 brother (Lyndon Walker).   16. Marian “Toots” Kalp age 71 of DuBois, PA, died Sunday, July 5, 2020 at her home. Born on September 20, 1948 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. “C.L.” and Helen (Laukitis) Dixon. On June 19, 1982 she married Russell J. Kalp. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2018. She was a 1966 graduate of Brookville High School. “Toots” retired from Central Electrical in Parker, PA. Previous to that, she had worked for 28 years at United Electric in DuBois, PA. She was a member of the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in DuBois. She, along with her husband, enjoyed going to classic car shows and dinner with their friends from the car shows. She was a Penn Highlands Hospice volunteer and enjoyed reading, traveling and camping. “Toots” is survived by a brother Joseph Dixon and his companion Reeta Zambanini of DuBois, PA and her close friend and sister in law Diane Dixon Wilt of Darlington, PA.   18. Dr. Gregory E.A. Austin, MD, age 70, of DuBois, PA died Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at UPMC Montifiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Born on October 8, 1949 in Barbados, West Indies, he was the son of the late Cecil & Miriam (King) Austin. He was married to his wife of 45 years, Rosemarie (Doane) Austin. She survives. He was a veteran of the Armed Services United States Public Health Service where obtained the rank of Captain Dr. Austin was a Family Medicine Physician at the DuBois Regional Medical Center/Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital for the past 27 years. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Eastern Nazarene College outside of Boston, MA. He received his medical degree from Tufts University Medical School in Boston, MA. Dr. Austin attended the Brookville Calvary Church of the Nazarene. Coming from a family of cooks, he loved cooking and grilling and sharing his food with family and friends. He was a caring physician who was devoted to his patients. Above all, he loved his family and his church. He is survived by a son (Gregory E.A. Austin, II of Pittsburgh, PA) 4 sisters (Maria, Eudene, Barbara, & Gloria), 1 brother (Jeffrey), and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother (Cameron).   19. James M. Heltzel, age 72 of DuBois, PA died Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at his home. Born on July 7, 1947 in Cochranton, PA, he was the son of the late Herald and Alice (McConnell) Heltzel. On September 19, 1970 he married Rose (Clemente) Heltzel. She survives. Jim was a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. He retired from the Mercer County State Bank as a Senior Commercial Loan Officer after many years of service. Previous to that, he worked for Penn State University in the Agricultural Department and for AG Choice Farm Credit. He was a member of St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed running and was an avid hunter and fisherman.   20. Judy Zmitravich, age 94 formerly of West Weber Avenue, DuBois, PA died on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at her daughter’s home. Born on April 6, 1926, in Maui, HI, she was the daughter of the late Masaji and Shizu (Omi) Otsu. On December 20, 1947 she married Leonard J. Zmitravich, Sr. whom she met while he was stationed at Fort Shafter in Honolulu, HI. He preceded her in death on September 5, 2006. Before leaving the Hawaiian Islands, Judy worked for the United States Army Corp of Engineers and the Department of Public Welfare. In 1952 they moved to the mainland and settled in her husband’s hometown of DuBois, PA where they raised their Ohana (family). Judy was a devoted wife and mother who loved spending time at the family camp. She, along with her family owned and operated Z’s Gym for many years. She was also a member of the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and the former Lithuanian Independence Club Auxiliary. Judy is survived by 2 sons; (Mark J. and James U. Zmitravich both of DuBois, PA) and 2 daughters; (Lori L. McMahon and husband Dan of DuBois, PA and Gail N. Franko and husband Mike of Falls, PA) 2 brothers; (Edward and Francis Otsu ) 2 sisters; ( Evelyn Lang and Charlotte Kunihiro) 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild).   22. Jessie L. Patchell, age 87 of Reynoldsville, PA died Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital. Born on May 28, 1933 in Sabula, PA, she was the daughter of the late Merritt C. and Susie (Spicher) Bundy. On June 23, 1957 she married her husband of 63 years, Donald L. Patchell. He survives. Jessie met her husband Don while working at Brockway Glass. While raising her children, she was a homemaker and then worked in the cafeteria of the DuBois Area School District for 21 years. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She enjoyed family camping, picnics and traveling. Jessie was well known for her homemade noodles at family gatherings. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Jessie is survived by her children; (Dr. Donald A.   24. Samuel B. Maze, Age 41 of Falls Creek, PA died Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. Sam was born on June 26, 1978 in Warren, PA. On September 3, 2016, he married Danielle (Vizza) Maze. She survives. Sam was the service manager at Stoltz Toyota in DuBois. He was the head varsity coach of the Brockway High School Girls Volleyball Team. Sam was also a coach in the DuBois Central Catholic Boys Basketball Middle School Program and coached youth soccer and baseball. Sam is survived by 3 children (Evan & Brock Dixon, and Samantha Maze), 2 sisters, 6 brothers, and several nieces and nephews. There will be no public visitation.   25. Dean Francis Vanatta, age 77 of Reynoldsville, PA died Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Born on August 8, 1942, in Ridgway, PA he was the son of the late H. Dean and Alice R. (Smith) Vanatta. On June 11,1982 he married Ellen Marie Myers. She preceded him in death on October 19, 2017. Dean worked in the maintenance department for the state of Pennsylvania at roadside rest stops. He was a member of Lighthouse Church in DuBois. Dean is survived by 1 daughter (Anissa Marie Barnett), brothers; (David and James Vanatta), 3 sisters; (Judy Rettger, Nancy Galford and Margaret Mertz) and 3 grandchildren He was preceded in death by 1 daughter (Cathy) and 1 brother (Michael Vanatta).
