  1. John S. Chunko, age 86 of Indiana, PA died Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital Born on August 27, 1932 in Spangler, PA he was the son of Joseph and Violet (Lamar) Chunko. John was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean War. He worked at Spaulding Fiber in Towanda, New York for 37 years. John was a member of the American Legion Post 41 Indiana, PA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to camp. He also loved to watch westerns. He is survived by his longtime companion (Carol Knarr of Reynoldsville, PA), 4 children (Jody Skuce of Pittsburgh, PA, John Chunko, Jeffrey Chunko and Jill Ann Skidmore all of Punxsutawney, PA), stepchildren (David Luveracki of Shenandoah, PA and Kevin Knarr of Penfield, PA) one brother (Joseph Chunko of Northern Cambria, PA), one sister (Margaret “Peg” Crislip of Florida), numerous grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by one sister Shirley Stonebraker. As per John’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral services. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Penn Run, PA.   2. James R. Swisher Age 86 of DuBois, PA died Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Christ The King Manor. Born September 14, 1932 in DuBois, PA he was the son of the late Donald C. and Ann (Doyle) Swisher, Sr. On September 3, 1955 he married Nancy J. Falvo Swisher. She preceded him in death on November 20, 2014. Jim was a veteran of the United States Army having served as a Sergeant during the Korean War. He managed the Swift Kennedy Insurance Company in Brockway, PA for eighteen years and owned and was the president of Swisher Real Estate for fourteen years. He was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Roman Catholic Church, the past president of the Board of Realtors, past president of the DuBois Area Chamber of Commerce, a charter member of the DuBois Area Jaycees, a member of the George D. Montgomery American Legion Post 17 and the Clearfield County Industrial Development Authority. Jim is survived by his children; (Charles Swisher and his wife Linda, R. Mark Swisher and his wife Maryanne, Karen Dietz and her husband David and Kathleen Neville and her husband Jeffrey, all of DuBois, PA) eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Donald C. Swisher, Jr. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 1 – 4 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held on Sunday at 12:30 PM from the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 10:30 AM from St. Catherine of Sienna Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant. Military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the church. Burial will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery.   3. Richard Kohl, Age 57 of Treasure Lake, DuBois, PA died Sunday, January 20, 2019 at his home. Born on May 22, 1961 in Neptune, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Richard and Laverne (Smith) Day Kohl. Richard worked for Clifford B. Finkle Jr. Trucking Company as a supervisor. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and was member of the National Rifle Association. He is survived by one daughter; (Elizabeth Kohl and her husband Michael Gerber of State College, PA) one son; (Joseph Kohl of Willow, PA) three sisters; (Alison Bolt and her husband Ronald of Littleton, New Hampshire, Lisa Molnar and her husband Terry of Hagerstown, Maryland and Karen Vaseghi and her husband George of Manassas, Virginia). As per Richard's wishes, there will be no public visitation and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.   4. Margaret "Peg" Hickman, age 86 of Rockton, PA died Friday, January 18, 2019 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. Born on July 13, 1932 in Curwensville, PA she was the daughter of the late Charles A. & Delcie A. (Kirk) London. She was married to Robert Hickman. He preceded her in death in 1995. Peg was a homemaker and in her early years worked for various manufacturing companies and later found her true calling as a private duty care nurse and volunteer. Peg was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Rockton, PA. She is survived by a daughter (Valerie Hendricks & her husband Bill of Rockton, PA); a son (John Logan & his wife Allison of Rockton, PA) numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Peg is also survived by 2 brothers (Tom Kirk and Olan London) & 2 sisters (Betsy Kirk and Linda Jewell). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son (Dennis); a daughter (Brenda) & 4 brothers (Laverne, James, Charles & Pat London). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 5 to 7 p.m. from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.   5. Mary L. D'Anna Age 92 of Kerr Street, Brockway, PA died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. She was born on May 29, 1926 in Brockway, PA, the daughter of the late Carlo and Virginia (Paris) Bonesi. On June 25, 1947 she married John J. D'Anna. He preceded her in death on December 18, 2015. Mary was a homemaker and a member of St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church. She was a past member of the DuBois Hospital Auxiliary and the Brockway Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed reading, doing word search puzzles and needlepoint. Above all, Mary loved being with her family. She was the best mother in the world. She is survived by one son (William D'Anna, of Brockway, PA); two daughters (Nancy S. Murray of DuBois, PA and Julie D'Anna of Greensburg, PA); one grandson (Jonathan D'Anna and his wife Jill of Ludowici, GA) and one great grandson (Mark Kalgren of Glenville, GA). Mary was preceded in death by an infant daughter (Judy D'Anna), one son (James D'Anna) and two granddaughters (Michelle and Lori D'Anna).   6. Michael L. Krishart, Age 85 of West Washington Ave., DuBois, PA died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at his home. Born on June 27, 1933 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Michael S. & Kathryn (Pruzinsky) Krishart. On June 22, 1957, he married his wife of 61 years, Rita J. (Lockitski) Krishart. She survives. Mike was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Eleventh Airborne Division during the Korean War. He retired from Halls Transportation and Womeldorf Trucking after a career as an over the road truck driver. After his retirement, he worked for 4 years at Hovis Auto. Mike was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church where he was an original member of the Holy Name Society and was active in the St. Michael's Polish Festival for over 50 years. He, along with his wife Rita, were past members and officers in the Groundhog Polka Club. Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 519 and was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus with the Fr. Patrick Healy Assembly # 2261. He played baseball for many years, throwing 3 no hitters in the Federation Baseball League and represented the United States of America in Free Style Wrestling at the Pan American Games. He was also a longtime member of the Polish Citizens Club. He was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed. Mike is survived by 3 daughters (Linda Edwards of Charlotte, NC; Lori Herbers & her husband David of North Royalton, OH; and Loretta Wadding & her husband Mark of Charlotte, NC), 6 grandchildren (Lauren Bearance, Michael & Karlee Herbers and Jason, Blake, & Emily Edwards) 1 great grandchild (Athena Edwards) and 2 more on the way; and 2 sisters (Irene Acuff of Charleston, SC and Viola Fischer of West Palm Beach, FL). He was preceded in death by 3 sisters (Madolene Ferut; Geraldine Mitravich; and Violet Windham) and a brother (Jerome Krishart). Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 2 to 5 p.m. from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.   7. Pauline R. Witherite Age 70 of Brumbaugh Road, Luthersburg, PA died Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. She was born on April 16, 1948, in DuBois, the daughter of the late Kenneth C. and Lois M. (Burke) Brumbaugh. On July 12, 1969 she married Richard "Dick" Witherite, he survives. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this July. Pauline was a homemaker and had previously worked for the DuBois Area School District. She was a life member of the Luthersburg United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a lifelong member of the Brady Township Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed going on vacation to the Outer Banks. Above all, Pauline loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed watching the "little ones" play together. She is survived by two daughters (Courtney Witherite & her fiancé Justin Angelo and Amanda Wallace & her husband Justin, both of Luthersburg, PA), one brother (Dennis Brumbaugh & his wife Sharie of Luthersburg, PA), three grandchildren (Brady Woods and Ella & Ara Wallace ) and four nieces; (Denielle Brumbaugh, Heather Werner, Jaynelle Horchen & her husband Andy and Heidi Pie and her husband Josh). Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 6 - 8 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc.   8. Jan O. Thomas, age 98 of DuBois, PA died Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the DuBois Nursing Home. Born on June 21, 1920 in Grampian, PA she was the daughter of the late Ralph A. & Gladys (Daugherty) Thomas. Jan retired as the secretary of the First Baptist Church in DuBois and subsequent to retirement, she worked many years at Shop N Save. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in DuBois. Jan enjoyed art and drawing. She is survived by 2 nieces (Sherry Thomas of Grampian, PA and Cindy Rolls of DuBois, PA) 3 nephews (Barry Thomas and his wife Bettina of Burke, VA; Brent Thomas and his wife Debbie of Clearfield, PA; and Barth Thomas and his wife Kim of DuBois, PA) and great nieces and nephews (Colin, Zaden, Devon, Zoan, Zariana, Zarius, Zaelyn, & Zyla Thomas). She was preceded in death by 2 brothers (Nathan & Walter Thomas) There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church in DuBois with Pastor Mark Montgomery officiating. Burial was in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.   9. Peter L. Melani Age 69 of Mowrey Lane, DuBois, PA died Friday, January 11, 2019 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Born on December 16,1949 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Lee and Mary (Maracini) Melani. On June 9, 1973 he married Patricia “Patty” E. (Alburg) Melani. She survives. He was the owner / operator of Pete Melani Nationwide Insurance for over thirty years. Pete was a longtime member of the DuBois Country Club where he was an avid golfer. He loved playing cards at the casino and with his buddies every Monday night, was a member of St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church and loved going to the beach. Most of all, he loved being with his family. Pete is survived by three sons (Adam Melani of DuBois, PA; Lee F. Melani and his wife Anna Kate of Pittsburgh, PA and Dr. Christopher J. Melani and Mark Zmitravich of Baltimore, MD) and two grandchildren; (Lyla and Blake Melani). He was preceded in death by one brother (Mark Melani).   10. Muriel L. Horner Age 88, of West Main Street, Reynoldsville, PA died Monday. January 7, 2019 at her home. Born on September 20, 1930 in Reynoldsville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Milo and Florence (Craven) Snyder. On September 25, 1947 she married William B. Horner, Sr.. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1994. She was a homemaker and a member of the Reynoldsville Presbyterian Church where she had served as a Deacon and was involved in many church activities. Muriel was a past member of The Order Of The Eastern Star. She enjoyed camping, country music and above all being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by two sons; (Gary L. Horner, Sr. & his wife Debbie of Greensburg, PA and James R. Horner and his wife Barbara of Reynoldsville, PA); (Daughter in law, Karen Horner of Reynoldsville, PA); Seven grandchildren (Billie Ann Burke, Gary Horner, Jr., James Horner, Melissa Klevemann, Michele Vasquez, Krista Collins and Amy Bash) and several great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren. Muriel was preceded in death by one son (William "Bink" Horner) one grandson (Douglas Horner) three brothers and three sisters.   11. Edward T. McHale, Age 75 of DuBois, PA died Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Christ The King Manor. Born January 23, 1943 in Cleveland, OH he was the son of the late Edward T. and Helen J. (Rochford) McHale. He was veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. Edward was a sales representative for IBM and a parking lot manager in Clarion, PA. He is survived by one son (Charles McHale, Taipei City, Taiwan) and two brothers (Michael McHale, Palos Verdes Estates, CA. and Paul McHale of Independence, OH).   12. Jon R. Dahrouge, Age 39 of DuBois, PA died Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. Born on January 18, 1979 in DuBois, PA he was the son of Mike and Debbie (Shute) Dahrouge. They survive and live in Brockway. Jon is also survived by his fiancé of 15 years Christina A."Chrissy" Rio. He was employed at Unilec in DuBois for the past 10 years as an engineer. He currently was attending Penn State World Campus working toward a Bachelor Degree in Business Management. Jon loved to play roller hockey and was active in various leagues. He was a huge "Gamer" and enjoyed spending many hours on his PlayStation in his mancave. He loved spending time with his four German Shepherds, loved to travel and he loved his nieces and nephews. Jon had an infectious smile and was always the life of the party. He is survived by three brothers; (Michael A. Dahrouge, Jr. of Nolanville, TX), (Zachary A. Dahrouge & wife Jerrica, DuBois, PA) (Benjamin Dahrouge & fiancé Angel Elridge, DuBois, PA) and three sisters; (Shaunna Dahrouge & fiancé Mike Crosby, Brockway, PA) (Deanna Dahrouge Henry, Brockway, PA) and (Brelena Long & husband Mike, Brookville, PA). Jon is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews, his fiancé's parents Gary & Bonnie Rio of Weedville, PA and a very close group of friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal & maternal grandparents, one niece and one nephew.   13. Josephine L. Duttry passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 1, 2019. She was born March 22, 1923, a daughter of the late Otto and Pearl Edinger. Josephine was also preceded in death by her husband Loraine F. Duttry; three daughters, Carol Swauger, Linda Kness, and Georgia Fields; a son Edward Duttry; beloved sister Mary Gladene Ryan; and brother Earl Everett (Nibs) Edinger; and many other loved ones. The roots of her family are deep and the lives of those who loved her most will be changed forever. She is survived by her sister Doris (Vernon) Leach; one son Gary Duttry; beloved grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; sons-in-law James Swauger and John Fields; and adored nieces and nephews. Everything about Josephine was connected to nature. She lived on the same track of land since April of 1928, and from her father she learned the name of every tree and plant surrounding her home. She was an avid birder, able to identify with the flash of a wing or the shortest of song. She would tell her grandchildren while in the woods, that she felt the closest to her Savior when she was walking among the beauty He created. Josephine was known for her green thumb and her vegetable gardens, overflowing root cellar, and shelves full of canned fruits, jams, and jellies. Josephine was famous for her flowerbeds especially her daffodil lined lane. Josephine was a woman of many talents she quilted, embroidered, and was a wonderful cook. Her family will miss her apple pie, hot water chocolate cake with peanut butter icing, johnnycake, and most of all her homemade bread. Josephine requested that there be no formal services held for her. A private family celebration of her life occurring at a later date. Josephine was a cat lover and requests any memorial donations be made to the Gateway Humane Society, 1211 Airport Road, Falls Creek, PA 15840. Born December 31, 1933 in DuBois, PA she was the daughter of the late Joseph Katus and Mary (Johnston) Katus. On July 30, 1955, she married her husband of 61 years, Edward J. "Zeke" Zatsick. He preceded her in death on October 27, 2016. Margaret worked for Penn Traffic for 20 years and retired from Tri County Broadcasting. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, was on the Board of Directors at Timberland Federal Credit Union and also served as a Eucharistic Minister at The DuBois Regional Medical Center. She is survived by a daughter (Carol Roach and her husband Jack of Reading, PA and their children Matthew Roach and his wife, Marissa; Colleen Roach; Patricia Hodges and her husband, Scott), 2 Sons:(David Zatsick and his wife Barb of Conneaut Lake, PA. and their children Amy Zatsick and Abby Zatsick), and Jeffry Zatsick and his wife Nadine of Johnstown, PA. and their children Ty Zatsick, Erica Rodgers, Erin Rodgers, Evan Zatsick and Jenna Zatsick.) and Two great-grandchildren Madelyn Roach and Edyn Hodges. She was preceded in death by her 2 brothers, Joseph & Harold "Mickey" Katus. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2018 from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 1 p.m. from St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.   15. Brian K. Smith, Age 59 of Chestnut Avenue, DuBois, PA. died Monday, December 31,2018 at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones. Born on September 23, 1959 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of James "Jim" & Mary (Ball) Smith, Sr. His mother survives and lives in DuBois. His father preceded him in death. Brian worked as a construction worker. He had his own business, 4 Aces Construction with his brother Scott. He then went in to business with his son Jesse as Smith and Son Construction. He was a member of the Sandy Club, the IPS Club, Olympic Club and the VFW of DuBois. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and camping with his family and friends. Brian was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan. He enjoyed Nascar and dirt car racing. His most enjoyed time was being around his children, granddaughters and family. Brian is survived by two daughters; Tiffany J. Harriger & her husband Jeff of DuBois, Breanne Smith & Shane Sayers of DuBois. One son; Jesse Smith & Erica Davis of DuBois. Two granddaughters; Everlee Harriger and Gracy Smith. He is also survived by three brothers; James R. Smith Jr. & his wife Roni of Treasure Lake; Scott L.Smith and Shari Patton-Dilley of DuBois; Todd D. Smith & his wife Jaci of Falls Creek. He has numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his father James, Brian is preceded in death by his grandparents Mary & Tom Ball and Fred & Aleen Smith. There will be no public visitation. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 1:00 PM from the Treasure Lake Church with Pastor Dick Whitaker officiating. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.   16. Robert B. Smiley, Age 44 of East Scribner Ave., DuBois, Pa died December 28, 2018 at his home. Born on August 15, 1974 in DuBois, PA her was the son of Robert Smile & Debra Noble Wilkerson. Bobby worked for Plyler's At Your Service in Brookville, PA and previous to that, he worked at RESCAR for 15 years. He is survived by 2 daughters (Lynn M. Smiley of Penfield, PA & Dawn E. Smiley of St. Mary's, PA) a sister (Jamie Smiley of Clarion, PA) 2 grandchildren (Maddelyn Sharp & Jordan Park) and his grandmother (Shirley Noble of DuBois, PA). He was preceded in death by a brother (Christian Wilkerson) an uncle (Mark Noble) and his grandfather (Mark Noble, Sr.) Visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 10 A.M. until 12 P.M.at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.
