John R. "Jack" Averill, age 86 of Dubois, PA died Sunday, December 23,2018 at the DuBois Nursing Home.

He was born May 7, 1932 in DuBois, PA to Sanford and Beatrice (Wilson) Averill who preceded him in death.

Jack graduated from DuBois High School in 1950.

He married Pauline "Polly" Benghauser on July 27, 1953. She survives.

 He is also survived by two sons. John Averill, Jr. and his wife Crystal and William "Bill" Averill, both of DuBois; grandson Jonah Averill; "adopted grandsons" D.J. Clark and Bryton Averill as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Jones and a brother, Sanford Averill, Jr.

Jack was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where he directed the Chancel Choir the past 34 years. He was a midget football coach for over 25 years.

Jack had 2 great interests. He enjoyed bowling in several leagues. He was past president of the PA State Bowling Association and was inducted into the PA State Bowling Association for meritorious service to the sport of bowling.

Jack's other interest was music. He organized and directed the DuBois Community Christian Choir for over 30 years. He helped organize, played in and then directed the American Legion Community Band. The City of DuBois honored him this past August for providing a series of summer music concerts in the park for 30+ years 

There will be no visitation.

 A Celebration of Life will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on Sunday, January 20, at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor Corbin Russell officiating.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Zion UMC Chancel Choir, 16 Denton Ave. DuBois, PA 15801 or the DuBois Community Band, c/o Dick Trudgen 401 Randall Court, DuBois, PA 15801.

The Baronick Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., DuBois, is in charge of arrangements.
