Richard R. “Dick” Weis, age 86, of Stanley Road, DuBois, PA died Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.


Born April 30, 1935 in Ridgway, PA, he was the son of the late Raymond R. Weis and Ruth Annebelle Wilson.


He went to DuBois High School and played for its undefeated football team in 1952.  After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he drove amphibious tractors.


He worked for the Courier Express where he was a pressman for 38 years.


In 1968, he helped found the Falls Creek Wildcats of the Gateway Midget Football Association and was its head coach from 1969 to 1976.  During that time, he led the team to 5 championships.  He was honored as the League Man of the Year in 1999 and is still admired by many of his former players.


On July 16, 1977, he married Arlene Miller.  She preceded him in death in May 2018.


He enjoyed being with his friends when hunting, fishing, dancing and playing cards.  He like running his beagles and was a long-time member of the Old Town Beagle Club.


He is survived by three sons, Richard P. Weis of DuBois, PA, A. Michael Butler and his wife, Toni of DuBois, PA, and Jon Weis of Rockton, PA;  two daughters, Lisa Martinson and her husband, Kevin of Morristown, TN, and Patricia Bontempo and her husband, Dan of Sykesville, PA, 11 grandchildren (Kenny and Lyle Schaffer, Emilee Robinson, Danielle, Noah and Leah Bontempo, Mackenzie and Taylor Weis, Julianne and Mike Butler, and Brieanna Beck) 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.  He is also survived by two brothers, Tom Weis and his wife Linda of DuBois, PA and Jerry Weis of Falls Creek, PA, a sister, Cathy Snyder of Reynoldsville, PA, and a sister-in-law Joyce Weis of Falls Creek, PA.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepmother, Katherine Weis, two brothers, Bill and Allan Weis, and 2 step children, Cynthia Beck and Brian McGarvey.


Public visitation will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2022 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home.


A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 11 AM from the funeral home with Fr. Matias Quimno officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.


Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.


One of the things that Dick enjoyed was strolling the Beaver Meadow Walkway daily. It was Dick’s request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to erect a bench along the Walkway in he and his wife’s memory. Donations can be sent to Mike Butler, 276 Treasure Lake, DuBois, PA 15801.
