Swope, Terry.jpg
Terry Reed Swope, age 72, of DuBois, PA, released the hands of his mother and daughter to take the hand of Jesus on April 2, 2022, following a short struggle with metastatic lung cancer. Terry was born November 19, 1949, the son of Reed Kermit Swope, who preceded him in death, and Betty Lee Swope, who survives.

Terry is also survived by his daughter, Meghan Swope, brother Tim Swope, sister-in-law Marie Swope, and beloved nieces and nephews Erica (Swope) Manthey, Sonia Swope, Basil “Skip” Beighey, Susie Morrell, Thomas Beighey, Timothy Beighey, Elizabeth Miller, Anne Woodbury, and many grand nephews and nieces.

His beloved wife, Kristin (Kris) Swope, brother David Swope, brother-and-sister-in-law Larry and Carole Beighey awaited his heavenly arrival, having preceded him in death.

Terry grew up in DuBois and received a degree in Music Education from Susquehanna University in 1971. Kris and Terry reconnected as majorette instructor and band director, respectively, at DuBois Area High School and were married November 26, 1986.

Terry taught elementary music and directed the DAHS Marching Band, Chorus and Dynamics for more than 40 years and served in leadership roles in the DuBois Area Pennsylvania State Education Association. He was a fierce advocate for his students and fellow teachers. Many former students have said they would not have survived tumultuous teenage years without his kindness, guidance, and support. His music room, and his home, were safe havens.

Friends and family will be received Friday, April 8, 2022, from 4-7 pm at the Baronick Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 10 am from Christ Lutheran Church with Pastor Aaron Erdley officiating.

Although flowers are appreciated, the family suggests honoring Terry’s legacy through a donation to the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network at http://action.fightcancer.org/goto/terryswope. Terry tried many times to escape the addiction of smoking tobacco. If you or someone you love smokes, please honor the Swope family by giving them the love, support, and resources to quit.
