▫️N.O. Archdiocese is target of child sex trafficking investigation
NEW ORLEANS — The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans is the target of a child sex trafficking investigation, according to a sweeping and unprecedented search warrant Louisiana State Police recently served on an organization that for decades has been submerged in the global church’s clergy molestation scandal.
The clerk at the state criminal courthouse where the warrant was signed released the 11-page document Tuesday. It makes clear that troopers involved in a pending rape prosecution against one priest came to suspect that case was part of a broader pattern of “widespread sexual abuse of minors dating back decades” that was “covered up and not reported to law enforcement”.
In a stunning assertion made under oath, troopers said they had already recovered documents that “back” the notion that “previous archbishops, the highest-ranking official in the archdiocese, not only knew of the sexual abuse and failed to report all the claims to law enforcement, but spent archdiocese funding to support the accused”.

▫️U.S. House sends Ossoff’s online child exploitation bill to Biden’s desk
WASHINGTON - The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bipartisan bill co-authored by Georgia Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff designed to protect children from online sexual abuse and exploitation.

The REPORT Act is designed to strengthen the national tip line run by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to collect reports of online exploitation and would require evidence to be preserved for a longer period, giving law enforcement more time to investigate and prosecute crimes.
The bill would require websites and social media platforms to report crimes involving federal trafficking and enticement of children, which they are not currently required to do.

▫️Pair smuggled Cuban women into U.S., forced them into prostitution in Miami-Dade: Police
A man and woman are facing charges after police said they smuggled Cuban women into the United States then forced them into prostitution in Miami-Dade.
Vicenta Polanco, 30, and Luis Ariel Escalante, 24, were arrested Tuesday on human trafficking and prostitution charges, Miami-Dade jail records showed. The charges stem from the accounts of two women who said they had been forced to prostitute themselves at the direction of Polanco and Escalante, police said.
Both women were asked to hand over their Cuban passports and other legal documents, and were told they'd be assisted with legal representation for the immigration process, the reports said.
