Spangler, Mary.jpg

Mary G. Spangler, age 64 of DuBois, PA died Friday, July 29, 2022 at Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor in Brookville, PA.

Born on April 21, 1958 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Rita (Reinsel) Spangler, Sr.

Mary was a graduate of Central Christian High School and the DuBois Business College.

She had worked for many years at Prontock Beer Distributing, Inc. in DuBois.

She was also a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Mary was a heroic fighter.  She was a four-time cancer survivor and a frequent recipient of bad medical news, but she walked through it all with courage and determination.

Mary was indulgent with her young nieces and nephews.  In one case, she gave two of them yarn to play with and they hung the yarn wherever they could, turning her bedroom into a multi-colored spider web.

Although she didn’t travel physically, Mary liked to travel mentally by amassing a formidable collection of postcards. In addition, she liked to learn about the iconic sinking of the ocean liner Titanic.

Mary was skilled in several different types of crafting, including cross stitch, crochet and latch hooking. A particularly distinctive project was the two sister pillows she made with her sister-in-law, Joyce. Each collaborator cross stitched two copies of a scene. Then Joyce used one of her scenes and one of Mary’s to make two pillows. Then they each took one pillow.

Mary is survived by her siblings; (William A. Spangler, Jr. and his wife Joyce of Quakertown, PA, Kathy Kowalczyk and her husband Paul of Hawley, PA and Nick Spangler and his wife Karen of York, PA), two nieces (Kara Kowalczyk & her husband Zack and Tiffany Spangler), and three nephews (Dan Kowalczyk and Brett and Ryan Spangler).

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 11 a.m. from St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to DuBois Central Catholic, P.O. Box 567, DuBois, PA 15801.
