Administrators Pompeii Posted August 19, 2022 Administrators Share Posted August 19, 2022 Frances L. “Fran” Lias, age 86 of DuBois, PA died Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. Born on September 12, 1935 in Wellington, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late George and Ethel (Brown) Burkett. Fran and her family moved to DuBois in 1971. In 1974 she began to work for the City of DuBois where she served as the city secretary for 36 years until her retirement in 2010. She was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church and a member of the DuBois American Legion Auxiliary Post #17. Fran really enjoyed playing bingo and cards where she met many special friends. She was known by many as “the card lady” because she was always sending cards to her family and friends for special occasions. Fran is survived by her children; Carl A. Lias of DuBois, PA and Kathy L. Gilley and her husband Glen of Dothan, AL and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six brothers; Ray, Roy, Homer, Virgil, Clarence and Kenneth Burkett, two sisters; Virginia Cardenas and infant Fern Burkett, and step grandson; Timothy Gilley. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 22, 2022 from 6 – 8 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 11AM from the funeral home with Pastor Brett Dinger officiating. Burial will take place in Morningside Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and /or the USO at uso.org in honor of her six brothers who served in the military.
