Howard L. Rankin, Sr. (age 84)

Howard L. Rankin, Sr., U.S. Army retired, age 84 of DuBois, PA died Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at his home.


Born on June 25, 1938 in Washington, PA, he was the son of the late Ira Wilson Rankin and Vernon W. (Wagner) Rankin. 


Howard attended grade school in Conifer, PA and high school in Brookville, PA. After high school he joined the Army and spent 20 years in the Army attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. Receiving many medals and letters of commendation, the highest medals: the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal 2nd award.


He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Roxie C. (DiSciascio) Rankin and two sons Rocco (Amy) T. Ford, Sr. and Raymond (Robin) G. Ford, Jr. and six grandchildren; Emily, Rachel, Brandy, Rocco Jr., Michael and Caroline Ford, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.


Howard was the last member of his immediate family.


He was preceded in passing by his four children Cynthia D. Rankin, Howard L. Rankin Jr., Ronald L. Rankin, and Theresa A. Rankin, five sisters and 3 brothers. Virginia I. (Rankin) Myers, Wilson H. Rankin, Richard H. Rankin, Wilbur L. Rankin, Wilma F. (Rankin) Haney, and three infant sisters.


Visitation will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 from 4 – 7 PM and Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 10 AM until the time of service at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.


A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 AM from the funeral home with Father Matias Quimno officiating.


Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the funeral home.


Interment will take place in Lakelawn Memorial Park.
