Malcom S. “Mal” Morris, age 80 of DuBois, PA died Sunday, September 24, 2023 at his home.                     


Born on July 5, 1943 in Doncaster, Yorkshire, England, he was the son of the late Sidney and Cissie (Stacey) Morris.


On April 23, 2017, he married Sherry (Bachelier) Morris. She survives.


After World War II, Mal’s Aunt Joyce married an American soldier whose hometown was Renovo, PA.


They encouraged  Mal’s parents and  grandparents to come to the United States to visit and in 1951 they decided to stay. Citizenship came five years later. Mal and his family later moved to Driftwood, PA and finally DuBois, PA.

 

Mal graduated from DuBois Area High School where he played football in his senior year. After finishing the season, and with Coach Duke Burkholder’s blessing, he started the midget football team now known as the Oklahoma Tigers. Mal went on to coach them for 58 years. He was responsible for starting Boy Scout Troop #23 with 2 Eagle Scouts 40 scouts. He also started the Oklahoma Rod & Gun Club.

 

Mal worked for Riverside for 6 years and then UPS for 32 years, where he was the shop steward for 22 years. He hunted rabbits and trapped beaver and muskrats with his friends. He loved to fly fish for trout.

 

Mal is also survived by three sons (Zack Morris of DuBois, PA, Bryan Morris and his wife Samantha of Coventry, RI, and Bruce Morris of Brockway, PA), one daughter (Staci Williams of Greenville,PA), stepson (Justin Buck of Grampian, PA) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 4 pm – 7 pm at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.


A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 11 am from the funeral home with Pastor Dave Nagele officiating.


Burial will take place in Morningside Cemetery.


Memorials may be placed with Gateway Humane Society, PO Box 678, Falls Creek, PA 15840 and/or the Hahne Cancer Center 100 Hospital Avenue, DuBois, PA 15801.
