Donald Joseph Kruk, Age 85 of DuBois died on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at the DuBois Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was born on February 9, 1939 in New Castle, PA, a son of the late Joseph V. Kruk and Sophia Buly Kruk. He married the love of his life, Mary F. "Polly" Hay on May 27, 1961 at Grace Episcopal Church in Ridgway, PA. She preceded him in death on June 27, 2022. 


Don graduated from DuBois Area High School in 1957 and attended the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois, where he played football with such notables as Ray Nitschke of Green Bay Packer fame, Bill Brown of Minnesota Viking fame and Bobby Mitchell of Cleveland Brown fame. He then attended and graduated from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business education in 1962. 
 

He served as a first lieutenant in the United States Army from November 1962 until November 1964 and then worked in public and corporate accounting for several years until he became a Certified Public Accountant in 1969. He then started his banking career working 33 years as V.P. and Controller for National Bank of the Commonwealth and Deposit Bank. Don was also employed as a commercial lender for Public Credit of Brockway, PA and most recently as V.P. of Commercial Lending for Northwest Savings Bank of Dubois, PA. He was also a life member of the Pennsylvania Institute and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. 
 

He served as Director of Goodwill Industries of Northwestern PA for over 20 years holding the positions of President and Treasurer of the board. In addition, he was elected to the Board of Directors of Maple Avenue Hospital, and served on the merged Board of DRMC from 1985 until 2007. During that time, he held the positions of Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Building Committee and the Fund Development Committee. He also co-chaired two United Fund drives for the DuBois Area United Way. 
 

Don was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in DuBois, where he served on the vestry and held the position of Senior Warden during his tenure.
 
 
Don is survived by his two daughters, Dr. Dawn Luvaas and her husband, Donald Weis of St. Marys, PA and Dr. Beth Jones and her husband Mark Jones of DuBois, PA. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Scott Flick and his wife Jackie of New Columbia, PA, Dr. Sarah Flick and her fiancé Tarrell Morris of  Mendon MA, and Deric Luvaas (Isabelle Pircio) of Munhall, PA and two great-grandchildren Donald and Dawson Flick. Don is also survived by three brothers, John E. Kruk and his wife Kay of Chantilly,  Virginia, Greg Kruk, Esquire of DuBois, PA and Dr. Steve Kruk and his wife Rita of DuBois,PA and one sister Mary Siemucha of DuBois, PA. 


He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, James Siemucha.


Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.


A funeral liturgy will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10 a.m. from the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour with Fr. Timothy Kroh as celebrant.


Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
