Arthur “Keith” Smith, Sr. age 89 of DuBois, PA died Friday, March 24, 2023 at the DuBois Nursing Home. Born on June 5, 1933 in Falls Creek, PA, he was the son of the late Fred D. and M. Eileen (Jones) Smith. Keith was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. On November 18, 1955 he married his wife Joyce E. (Hetrick) Smith. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2006. Keith was a 1952 graduate of the Reynoldsville Sykesville High School and a 1956 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University. Keith worked as an Account Executive/ Broker for Brockway Glass for 17 years and went on to work for, and retire from Swift Kennedy Insurance after 14 years of service. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in DuBois where he was very active in church affairs. He was a member of the Garfield Lodge # 559 Free & Accepted Masons, and the Shrine Club. Keith had a long history with the Jaycees on both the local and state level. He was the recipient of the DuBois Jaycees Distinguished Service Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020. Keith served as a member of the Board of Director at the DuBois Nursing Home for many years. He had served the nursing home board as President and had a part in initiating the merger with the DuBois Village to form the DuBois Continuum of Care Community. Keith has also served as President of the Haven House Shelter. Keith is survived by his children; (Deborah Smith and her wife Goli Karimi of Altadena, CA; Keith Smith, Jr. and his wife Sherri of Luthersburg, PA and Cheryl Floyd & her husband Brad of Red Lion, PA), six grandchildren (Dylan, Grant, & Mason Smith, and T.J. & Dustin Floyd & his wife Melissa, and Devon Harbaugh & her husband Seth), six great grandchild, and two sisters; (Janet Guthridge of DuBois, PA and Molly Shaffer of Falls Creek, PA). Jesus then told her that He also does not condemn her, and to sin no more. Think of the story of the Poor Widow who contributed everything by placing two small coins into the treasury. Jesus told His disciples that others gave from their surplus of wealth, but the poor widow “from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood” (Luke 21:4). Pope St. John Paul II spoke about “feminine genius” in his Letter to Women in 1995. He discussed how the genius of women has significantly contributed to the 2,000 year history of the Church. He wrote, “Necessary emphasis should be placed on the ‘genius of women’ not only by considering great and famous women of the past or present, but also those ordinary women who reveal the gift of their womanhood by placing themselves at the service of others in their everyday lives.” Jesus loves women and respects each of them.
