  1. Dennis M. Bogacki, Sr., Age 71, of Hill Street, Reynoldsville, PA died on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Montefiore Hospital.

    Born on May 27, 1946 in DuBois, PA he was the son of the late Louis E. and Louise (Alessi) Bogacki, Sr.

    On July 22, 1964 he married his wife of 52 years, Kathryn J. “Kitty” (Slimmer) Bogacki. She survives.

    Dennis retired from Symco Manufacturing in Sykesville as a salesman, after over 25 years of service.

    He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post in both DuBois & Reynoldsville, the Polish Citizens Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 50 in Reynoldsville. He loved to go camping and hunting, but most of all, he enjoyed being with his family.

    Dennis is survived by a son, Jeffrey Bogacki of Washington D.C.; a brother, Richard Bogacki & his wife Paula of Reynoldsville; a sister Kathy Solada & her husband Terry of DuBois, PA; 5 grandchildren, Jorden, Stefon, Travis, Mindy & Amanda and 3 great-grandchildren, Makayla, Makenzi and Blaze.

    He was preceded in death by a son (Dennis M. Bogacki, Jr.) his daughter (Sheila Bogacki) and 2 brothers (Louis E. Bogacki, Jr. & Thomas E. Bogacki, Sr.).

    There will be no public visitation.

    A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Fr. William Barron as celebrant.

    Memorials may be placed with the Hahne Cancer Center, 100 Hospital Avenue, DuBois, PA 15801.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

  2. Karen Ann Dixon Michael, Age 63, of Reynoldsville, PA died on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital.

    Born on September 7, 1954 in DuBois, PA she was the daughter of the late Carl W. & Ruth G. (Hoover) Dixon. 

    She was a graduate of DuBois Area High School, class of 1972.

    She worked at DuBois Glass & China and Valley Dairy Restaurant.

    Karen enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, poetry and going camping.

    Karen is survived by 2 sons, (Michael P. Murray & his wife Laura of Reynoldsville, PA and Dylan A. Michael & his wife Ashley of Fort Campbell, TN), a daughter (Christina S. Kinder of DuBois, PA), a brother (Paul Dixon & his wife Patty of Altoona, PA) 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 2 nieces and a close friend & caretaker (Cathy Wyant).

    She was preceded in death by a brother (Larry A. Dixon).

    Visitation will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 5-8 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

    A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 10 AM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Lay Minister Brad Clinton officiating.

    Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.

    Memorials may be placed with the charity of the donor’s choice.

  3. Dennis J. Carrera, Age 75, of Brockway, PA died on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital.

    Born on March 25, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA he was the son of the late Willfred E. & Angela (Hervoyavich) Carrera.

    He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Vietnam War.

    On January 10, 1986 he married Noreen J. (Beer) Carrera. She survives.

    He had worked at Brockway Glass for 27 years, in the maintenance department in both Freehold, NJ and Brockway, PA. He was well known for restoring classic cars and enjoyed traveling and the outdoors. 

    Dennis is survived by 3 children:  Dennis J. Carrera, Jr. & his wife Tiffany of Greenville, PA, Kimberly Ann Weiser & her husband Jim of Wheatland, PA and Tammy Lynn Miller of Fancy Gap, VA; a brother:  Michael Carrera & his wife Cindy of Franklin, PA; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

    There will be no public visitation.

    A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 12 PM from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Pastor Harold Hill officiating.

    Memorials may be placed with the American Spinal Injury Association, 2020 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30309.

  4. Mary Jo Brunswick, 84 of McCracken Run Road, DuBois, PA died on Friday, March 23, 2018 at her home.

    Born on December 31, 1933 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Zigmant and Anna (Elias) Okonski. 

    On September 20, 1981 she married Jack M. Brunswick. He preceded her in death on January 3, 2004. Previous to that, she was married to Marlin E. McGarvey for many years, he preceded her in death on January 29, 1980.

    She retired from Martino’s Supermarket in Brockway after 25 years of service as a cashier.

    She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and loved going to Curves. 
    She was an avid reader and was a member of Rosie’s Book Club. She also was a knitter, making many scarves for Brockway Elementary School and chemo hats for Hahne Cancer Center.

    Mary Jo is survived by 4 children: Steven McGarvey & his wife Karin of Brockport, PA, Laura Barraclough of Glen Allen, VA, Jean Magee & her husband Phil of Gardiner, ME and Patrick McGarvey of DuBois, PA; a brother: Leonard Okonski & his wife Pat of The Villages, FL; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by a sister (Margaret Marusiak) and a brother (Ed Okonski).

    Visitation will be on Thursday, March 29, 2018 from 9:30-11 AM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

    A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 11 AM from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Msgr. Richard Siefer officiating.

    Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery.

  5. Donald B. Shobert, Age 93, of Walnut Street, DuBois, PA died on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Penn Highland DuBois Hospital.

    Born on June 10, 1924 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Benton L. and Helen N. (Rakestraw) Shobert.

    He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II.

    In September of 1949, he married Christine A. Rowles Robb Shobert. She survives.

    He was a 1942 graduate of the DuBois Area High School and graduated in 1948 from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He received a master’s Equivalency in Mathematics and a masters in Educational Technology from Arizona State University in 1968.

    Don retired as a school teacher and wrestling coach from the DuBois Area School District after 28 years of service. After his retirement, he not only worked as a manager of the WDBA Radio Station for 15 years he was one of the founders of the radio station. 

    He was a past member of the First Baptist Church, where he was very active in teaching Sunday School class. He was also a member of the George D. Montgomery American Legion Post #17 and was active in the National Ministries of People to People. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame.

    Don is survived by 2 sons: William A. Robb & his wife Susan of Raleigh, NC and Larry A. Robb & his wife Nancy of DuBois, PA; a brother Robert L. Shobert of Delaware; 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

    Visitation will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 10 AM-noon at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

    A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at noon at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Pastor Dick Whitaker officiating. 

    Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.

  6. Betty J. Bracken, Age 94 of DuBois, PA, formerly of Mahaffey died Monday, March 12, 2018 at Christ the King Manor.

    Born on July 16, 1923 in Parma, OH, she was the daughter of the late Thomas & Agnes (Palsho) Postlethwait.

    On August 17, 1963, she married Jack Bracken.  He preceded her in death in October of 1998.

    She was a 1941 graduate of the DuBois Area High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Slippery Rock University.

    Betty retired as a physical education teacher in DuBois, Reynoldsville, & Kane after many years of service.

    She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church. She was a tutor for the Mid State Literacy Council, previously involved with the Girl Scouts of America, and was also an avid reader.

    She was cared for locally be her nephews (George Postlethwait of Rockton, PA, and John Bracken & his wife Phyllis of Mahaffey, PA) as well as numerous other nieces & nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her son (Ronald Bracken) and her brother (George Postlethwait).

    Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 3-7 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

    A scriptural wake service will be prayed on Thursday at 2:30 PM.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 10 a.m. from St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.

    Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Clover Run Cemetery, Bell Township, Clearfield County.

    Memorials may be placed with the charity of the donor’s choice.

  7. Theresa Marie Ponzi Puterbaugh, Age 39, of DuBois, PA died on Monday, March 12, 2018 at her home.

    Born on July 13, 1978 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of Tom & Patti (Johnson) Ponzi. Her parents survive.

    On October 15, 2016 she married, the love of her life Jason Puterbaugh in DuBois. He survives.

    She was a 1996 graduate of the DuBois Area High School and a 1998 graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of Cosmetology.

    Theresa was a hair stylist and worked at A Style For You where she had many friends who loved her.

    Theresa was loved by many and a joy to all who knew her. She was very active with the DuBois Area Marching Band Boosters and was like a mom to all her band kids and much a part of the band family.

    Theresa is also survived by her son, Shane Ponzi at home; her sister, Michelle Lindholm and her husband David of Brockway, PA; nephews, Trevor Murray and Matthew Reasinger, niece, Salem Murray; several aunts and uncles and her many cousins.

    She was preceded in death by her brother, Andy Ponzi, and her maternal & paternal grandparents.

    Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 3-7 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

    A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 11 AM from the Treasure Lake Church with Pastor Dick Whitaker officiating.

    Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery.

    Although flowers are appreciated, memorials may be placed with the Shane Ponzi Education Fund, c/o Jessica Runyon, S&T Bank, 614 Liberty Blvd., DuBois, PA 15801.

  8. Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Blasdell, Age 89 of DuBois, PA, formerly of Sykesville, PA died Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Christ the King Manor.

    Born on April 27, 1928 in Sykesville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Anthony & Nancy (Torre) Parente.

    On December 27, 1953, she married Donald R. Blasdell.  He preceded her in death in February of 2008.

    Betty retired as an administrative assistant from Ideal Products after over 20 years of service.

    She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church and a past member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Sykesville.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, & ceramics.  Betty was a very giving person to her brothers and sisters, family, and friends.

    She is survived by 3 children (Denise Rusnak of Coral Springs, FL, John Blasdell & his wife Diane, and Donald Blasdell & his wife Lisa, both of DuBois, PA) 3 grandchildren (Kristen & Kathryn Rusnak, and Cietta Blasdell) and a step grandson (Benjamin Blakley IV).

    She was preceded in death by her 3 sisters (Catherine Dolinar, Lucy Parente, and Teresa Yeafol), 4 brothers (Angelo, Michael, Paul, & Joseph Parente) and a very special nephew (Anthony Parente).

    Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. from the Chapel at Christ the King Manor.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. from Christ the King Chapel with Fr. Matias Quimno as celebrant.

    Burial will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery.
