  1. Frederick W. Heidkamp, Age 73, of West Long Avenue, DuBois, PA died on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the Jefferson Manor Health Center in Brookville, PA.

    Born on February 7, 1944 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Frederick “Boyce” & Kathryn (Curley) Heidkamp.

    He married Susan (Smith) Heidkamp. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2003.

    He retired as contractor in the DuBois area after many years of service.

    He loved to fish, take care of all the stray cats in the neighborhood and ride his bike. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

    Fred is survived by a daughter, Erin Rowles & her husband Adam of Clearfield, PA; a step son, Thomas Hanley of DuBois, PA; a sister, Dorothy Van Ryan of Pittsburgh, PA and 5 grandchildren: Tyanne, & Hayden Miles and Kinsley, Alaura & Devin Rowles. 

    He was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Wayne, Dennis & Carl Heidkamp and a sister: Eileen Keller.

    There will be no public visitation.

    A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 1:00 PM from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Pastor Terry Felt officiating.

  2. Marian L. Hickman, Age 87 of DuBois, PA died Saturday, February 03, 2018 at the DuBois Nursing Home.

    Born on December 27, 1930 in Falls Creek, PA she was the daughter of the late Sara E. (Swineford) Hiner.

    In 1947, she married James Kirby Hickman.  They were married for 59 years until his death in 2006.

    Marian retired from Owens Illinois after 19 years of service.

    She was a lifelong member of the Falls Creek Presbyterian Church where she had served as a deacon.

    Marian was an avid Bingo player and loved to go on camping & fishing trips in Potter County.  She enjoyed going on vacations to Ocean City, Maryland, and gardening.

    She is survived 2 children (Larry A. Hickman & his wife Brenda of DuBois, PA, and Susan M. Iddings & her husband Charlie of Reynoldsville, PA) 2 brothers (Robert Kessler of Sebring, FL, and Gary Kessler of DuBois, PA), a sister (Roberta Fleeman of DuBois, PA) 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, & 2 great-great grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her son (Edwin Hickman) and 2 brothers (Marvin & Ronald Kessler).

    Visitation will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

    A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 1 p.m. from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Pastor Harold Hills officiating.

    Burial will follow in Taylor Cemetery, Falls Creek, PA.

  3. Mable C. Pifer, age 82, Maple Avenue, DuBois, PA died Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the home of her daughter in Black Lick, PA.

    Born on June 11, 1935, in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frederick & Betty (Ballantyne) Gent. 

    Her husband of 62 years, Donald E. Pifer, preceded her in death on April 15, 2017

    She, along with her husband, retired as the owner/operator of Keller Brothers Cleaners in DuBois after over 30 years of service.

    Mable was a life member of the First United Methodist Church in DuBois and was a member and past officer of the DuBois Nursing Home Auxiliary.  She was a past Girl Scout leader and was a volunteer for the Boy Scout troop at Lakeside United Methodist Church.

    Mable is survived by her daughters, Pastor Dawn Krishart and her husband, Thomas of Black Lick, PA and Kimberly Pifer of DuBois, PA; and a son, Philip Pifer and his wife, Misty Perry-Pifer of Sunbury, OH.  She is also survived by three grandchildren, Jonathan Krishart of Blacklick, OH; Matthew Krishart of DuBois, PA and Rowan Pifer of Sunbury, OH and two great grandsons, Cameron and James Krishart.  She is also survived by a brother, Thomas Gent of Joshua Tree, CA.

    She was preceded in death by her sister (Shirley Tessauro)

    Friends will be received on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 12 P.M. from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Pastor Katrina Laude officiating.

  4. Wayne L. Ellenberger, Age 70 formerly of Luthersburg, PA died on Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Heritage Valley Sewickley Hospital in Sewickley, PA.

    Born on March 5, 1947 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Clem & Hope (Seyler) Ellenberger.

    Wayne was a veteran of the United States Navy having served on the USS O’Hara during the Vietnam War.

    He was a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and retired as a truck driver.

    He was a member of the America Legion, The Forest Grove Sportsman Association, and enjoyed hunting & fishing.  He was a musician in the Ellenberger Family Band for over 15 years.

    He is survived by a brother (James L. Ellenberger & his wife Carol of Coraopolis, PA).

    He was preceded in death by a brother (Budd Ellenberger).

    Private funeral services were held on Thursday, February 1, 2018. with Pastor Rick Howe officiating.

    Burial was in Luthersburg Union Cemetery.

  5. Elaine M. Weichman, Age 79 of Tozier Avenue, DuBois, PA died on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois, PA.

    Born on August 14, 1938 in Erie, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna (Zimmerman) Alloway.

    On August 6, 1960 she married Richard L. “Dick” Weichman. He survives.

    She retired from the Material Management Department at DuBois Regional Medical Center. She also worked at Penn Traffic Warehouse for 18 years.

    She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church and volunteered for Penn Highlands Hospice for many years making memory bears.

    Elaine is survived by 5 children: Jan Sedor and her husband Jeff of DuBois, PA, Jeff Weichman and his wife Joy Sue of Glencoe, AL, Joy Kepple and her husband Ken of Treasure Lake, PA, Jon Weichman and his wife Shelley of Homosassa, FL and Jackie Hartzell and her husband Jeff of Brookville, PA; 3 brothers: William Alloway and his wife Margie of Erie, PA, Arnold Alloway and his wife Judy of Madeira Beach, FL and Norman Alloway and his wife Doreen of Shalotte, NC; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

    Visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 5-8 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10 AM from St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.

  6. Florence E. Wilson, Age 99, of Treasure Lake, DuBois, PA died on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Christ the King Manor, DuBois, PA.

    Born on July 11, 1918 in Brockton, MA she was the daughter of the late Ray and Edith (Hancock) Porter.

    She attended Simmons College for Women in Boston, MA. 

    She was married to Herbert Straffin. He preceded her in death. She then married John C. Wilson. He preceded her in death as well.

    She retired as a civil service worker from the Defense Supply Agency in Philadelphia, PA.

    She was a member of the Treasure Lake Church and the Red Hat Society. She also volunteered as a library aid for many years. 

    Florence is survived by a son, Mark Straffin and his wife Carol of DuBois, PA; 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

    There will be no public visitation.

    A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

  7. Bernice M. Chileski, Age 90 of Short Street, Falls Creek, Pa died Friday, January 26, 2018 at Christ the King Manor.

    Born March 14, 1927 in Shinnston, WV, she was the daughter of the late Frank & Mary (Schepp) Chileski.

    Bernice retired from the A&P Supermarket in DuBois after many years of service.  She was also a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church

    She is survived by 2 sisters (Irene Kendrick of Naples, FL and Evelyn Chileski of Pittsburgh, PA.

     Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 10 a.m. from St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.

  8. Evelyn M. Simbeck, Age 87 of Robinson St., DuBois, Pa died Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the home of her daughter. 

    Born on August 29, 1930 in DuBois, Pa, she was the daughter of the late Bernard & Bertha (Mehok) Kartavich.

    On July 4, 1964, she married Joseph R. Simbeck.  He preceded her in death on August 7, 2004.

    Evelyn was a homemaker and had worked at JJ Newberry for over 15 years.

    She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church.  Evelyn enjoyed reading, attending community concerts, and loved to go to the DuBois Public Library.  She like to watch NBA basketball and loved her Pittsburgh Pirates.

    She is survived by 2 children (Joseph E. Simbeck & his wife Kelly, and Mary R. Carlson & her husband, Tim, both of DuBois, PA), a sister (Sister Rita Kartavich, RSM of Erie, PA) 5 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her sister (Dorothy Johnston) and an infant brother (Frank Kartavich)

    There will be no public visitation. 

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 10 a.m. from St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant. 

    Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

  9. John S. “Westy” Kucharski, Sr., Age 92, of Kuntz Street, DuBois, PA died on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois, PA.

    Born on July 29, 1925 in DuBois, PA he was the son of the late Michael & Mary (Izban) Kucharski.

    He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II.

    On November 6, 1948 he married Victoria “Vicki” (Rokosky) Kucharski. She survives.

    He retired from the City of DuBois Street Department, and previous to that he worked at Airco Speer for many years.

    He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. He belonged to the Olympic Athletic Club and the Polish Citizens Club.

    He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. 

    John is survived by 1 son: Martin Kucharski of DuBois, PA; 2 sisters: Dorothy London of Bellefonte, PA and Bernadine Sekula of Chicago, IL and 1 grandson: Michael Kucharski & his wife Megan of Punxsutawney, PA.

    He was preceded in death by a son: John S. “Jack” Kucharski, Jr.; 3 brothers: Stanley, Joseph and Paul Kucharski; 11 sisters: Catherine Kucharski, Josephine Beshada, Pauline Boroski, Magdallena Kulbacki, Agnes Shemucha, Bertha & Elizabeth Kucharski, Mary Largey, Veronica Venus, Florence Kosempa and Rita Tryzna and an infant brother.

    Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 3-6 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10 AM from St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant, where full military honors will be accorded from the church by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.

    Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery.

  10. Julia M. Perry, Age 99 of West Long Avenue, DuBois, PA, formerly of Reynoldsville, PA died on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois, PA.

    Born on November 30, 1918 in Punxsutawney, PA she was the daughter of the late Frank & Severia (Chirani) Canton.

    On October 23, 1943 she married Frank J. Perry. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1987.

    She was a past member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Reynoldsville. 

    She was a homemaker and above all she loved her family. She enjoyed her gambling trips with them to Atlantic City and spent each winter for 30 years with her daughter in Florida. In her earlier years, she enjoyed playing the guitar and was a part of a musical duo in Adrian, PA.

    Julia is survived by 2 children: Frank J. Perry and his wife Mary Ellen of Louisville, KY and Beverly Schoening and her husband William of DuBois, PA; 3 grandchildren: Brooke Schwartz, Thad Endress and Jeff Perry and 7 great grandchildren.

    She is preceded in death by 5 brothers and 5 sisters.

    Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 10-11 AM at the Christ the King Manor Chapel.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11 AM from the Christ the King Manor Chapel with Fr. Matias Quimno as celebrant.

    Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Reynoldsville.

    Memorials may be placed with the Hahne Cancer Center, P.O. Box 447, DuBois, PA 15801.

  11. Vera I. Pringle, Age 86, of Lundgren Road, DuBois, PA died on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Altoona, due to injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident.

    Born on November 25, 1931 in Falls Creek, PA she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Kessler & Ethel (Pantall) Kessler Schoch.

    She made her home with companion, Norman Greenawalt of DuBois, PA.

    She worked as a bottle inspector for Brockway Glass for 35 years.

    Vera is survived by 2 children; Linda Moore and her husband Earle of Treasure Lake, PA and Samuel Stanton of Youngstown, OH, 2 sisters, Jean Polehonki of DuBois, PA and Betty Miller of Newark, NY, 4 grandchildren, Alan Moore (Jill), Jason Moore, Kelly Moore Price (Joseph) and Samuel Stanton, and 6 great grandchildren.

    She is preceded in death by her brother, David.

    Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 4-7 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 11 AM from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Rev. Dave Nagele officiating.

    Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.

  12. Doris J (Dorie) Hyatt, Age 89, DuBois, formerly of Clear Run, died Friday, January 19, 2018 at the DuBois Nursing Home.

    Dorie was born on Nov. 2, 1928, in Sandy Township a daughter of the late Florence Margaret (Heberling) Hyatt and William Kenneth Hyatt.  She attended Clear Run School till 8th grade and was a graduate of Sandy Township High School, class of 1946.

    Dorie made her home in Clear Run with her parents and twin sisters, Gin and Viv, and sister Phyllis.  They lived on the family farm and home of the Hyatt Dairy.  When asked about her childhood, Dorie would fondly remember rounding up the cows, the milk house, working with her dad planting corn and making hay, gathering eggs, helping with canning, clothes made by her mom out of printed feed bags when young, swimming in a nearby pond and enjoying her mom’s special baked beans. 

    Her first job was washing dishes in the kitchen at the Pershing Restaurant.  She worked at Jeffers Electronics one week shy of twenty-five years.  She retired from Rola Jensen.  Dorie purchased her first car, a Chevy, while working at Rola.  Before that, she walked.  She remained the driver in the family for her twin sisters until entering the DuBois Village in December of 2009.  This was her home for four years and she treasured the friendships she made there.  She took advantage of every activity offered, both there and at the DuBois Nursing Home where she spent her remaining days.  She was an avid Bingo player.

    Dorie was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Vivian and Virginia.  She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Pierce of Erie, PA; a niece, Nancy Baker and her husband, Neil of West Columbia, S.C.; and a nephew, Charles Pierce and his wife, Cheryl of Erie, Pa.
     
    Dorie was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church.  She appreciated the many cards sent to her from Lakeside’s parishioners for many years.  Memorials may be sent to Lakeside United Methodist Church, 420 First Street, DuBois, PA  15801.

    There will be no public visitation.

    A memorial service will be held a later date.

    Interment will be in Morningside Cemetery.
