What is an easy bulb to plant that will come up year after year that you don't need to dig up every year?
Also what's a fast catching ground cover that will come up every year?

I dont see rr tracks???
The person right by the light pole will be crossing the tracks in a few more feet. These are the tracks down by Frank's Pizza. Great old picture! Those windows on the Acme store (upstairs) are the same windows that are there now. I loved going in that Chinese laundry, that guy was fun and could barely speak English. He had a long braid down his back. The Beezers owned Clear Rock Archery.

That's on the corner of Long Ave and Franklin St. Notice the railroad tracks.

I heard lavender oil put around will drive them away. I've never tried it yet.

My peony plants haven't even started to bloom. Treasure Lake is always a couple weeks behind when it comes to mother nature. It must be the 10 degree difference in the weather and the elevation.
-
I finally found two flowers the deer at Treasure Lake won't eat. Marigolds and waxed begonias.

What about those planters that hang upside down on your deck and the plants look like they are inside some type of plastic bag. They had them advertised for tomatos, but now they have strawberries too. Has anyone had any luck with them? Are the tomatos good?

Seeing the pictures of PT bring back such good memories! That was such a great dept. store. Remember when they had 12 checkouts going on the PT side and on the Riverside side too. That store was always packed.

Boo !!!!Heh,Heh..Ya it's true there were always hauntings at the Scout Camp ..Because I worked there and participated in a bunch of them..What years are you talking about?
Surely you guys didn't try to scare the scouts on purpose and stage things did you? Kinda mean, but really funny too.

I asked that same question to Mr. Hanzley at the garden center and he said they will eat just about anything.

is that a pot leaf on the left.....lol
Now we know why it was so successful!

Well the picture says "Washington Ave" looking West.
So that would have to mean that it was taken on the Highland Street side ... Looking towards WEST Washington ..
Right? Thats what I'm gathering from it anyhow
You're exactly right. The picture is on East Washington Ave. Does anybody know what block of East Washington Ave this us? I don't recall any of those houses, but I'm sure they have greatly changed in all these years.
-
I am wondering if it isn't the Highland St. side, because I live over on the other end of town and if you look west, all you see are hills going up and this shows one going down.
That's what I was thinking too.
-
Wow, that is very interesting. I have never seen a cotton plant.
-
Does anyone recognize what block of W Washington Ave that is? It looks pretty level and most of Washington is hilly. I don't recognize most of the houses, but they are still probably there. I'm thinking the 700 or 800 block maybe. The picture says Washington Ave looking West so maybe it was taken on East Washington Ave but the shot was West, that would make more sense because of the houses in the pictures.

I have the Steam Shark and it cleans really well. I bought it at Kmart and it was around $70. One of my friends told me to spray a little Mr Clean multi surface spray on the floor and it cleans better and leaves a nice smell too. I would definitely suggest buying one. I use it on my hardwood floors, vinyl floor and ceramic tiles floors. There's something about the hot steam that makes me think it's really cleaning too. Might just be in my mind, but it pleases me. haha It's also very light and easy to maneuver.

Where and when should you pinch off the seeds? Should I trim my hibiscus back ever? It's pretty high, but pretty spindley too.
-
I have one too. It has the bright orangish red blooms. The first year I had it in my dining room and it never bloomed. Two summers ago I took it out on my deck and it got the afternoon sun and it bloomed all summer. In the winter I bring it in my kitchen where it is by the glass doors by the deck. It does well there too. It's blooming right now. Yes, it has lost all it's leaves and I think I'm going to lose it and then it comes right back. Maybe they shed once a year. lol I never pick the pods, are you suppose to?
-
Anyone know where it was located? You can see a church steeple in the background.

As an Archiitect and Engineer I would hazard a guess that two or three milliion wouldn't begin to touch some of these that still remain.
Exactly, people are unrealistic wanting everything saved when there is no money available for anything any more. It almost would have to be an independent company or group to raise that kind of money. OR one of DuBois's many millionaires. ha ha The Brewery would have taken multi millions to bring back out of disrepair. The whole foundation of the entire brewery was rotted away.
-
Are you old enough to remember the brewery in operation? I know you lived a block away from it as I did ...I have many memories of going down there and watching it in action...unloading grain cars, watching keg filling and hammering in the bungs, the bottling works, and many more memories from there.
Do you remember the old B & O car shops that were located under the Sandy bridge (where Aspin Way is now) along Brady Street?
For those that don't know, at one time there were 2 B & O car shops in DuBois, the one where Rescar is now and this one.
I remember riding our bikes and watching all the excitement at the Brewey in the 60's.
