  1. Does anyone have any info at all on a Clair Hess who coached at DHS in the 1940s ??
  2. Does anyone remember Coach Hess at DHS from the 1930-50s Era ?? He coached track & XC, and maybe some football & basketball. Joe Kagy & Ed Hockrein coached with him in track....
  3. I was reading the old 1887 Courier at the library recently-----it was a weekly paper. I will make a point to put a picture of the paper articles on here, when I can get back to it. I had an extra hour yesterday because sports practices were cancelled, Those fair grounds & race track we had were pretty special, it seems.....
  4. Came across what may have been the very first football game ever played in DuBois. October 29, 1887 at the fair grounds. 3pm............ The game was between Houtzdale and Beechtree. Admission was 25 cents, but all ladies could go for free. It was considered a draw in scoring. Does anyone know of an earlier game played in DuBois??
  5. Most area citizens do not know that DHS had a rifle team in the late Depression Era. It was a good team that rarely lost. It had an even greater challenge finding other high school teams than we do today, and they were willing to travel 2 or more hours to compete, although we had our own range. Most of the time the DHS team competed in prone position only, but the first time they went to standing position they still won. Does anyone recognize one of these 6 members of this early DHS squad?? -----Dave Beer ----Bob Milliron ----George Wilcox -----Bill Monroe ----Frank Bentley ----Al Roberts
  6. I have done this for years----very effective.
  7. Good for Vick. He is probably doing more to help animals than all his critics put together, and most of his critics are probably hyppocrites. Christmas is a time we remember many things that Christ taught, and one of them is forgiveness.
  8. I cannot imagine a "weed-killer" that is not a cancer risk.
  9. Snakes are the problem with joggers in the woods....
  10. I am extremely disappointed that any accredited university would waste it's time and money even considering such idiocy. For 50% of the price I would have been happy to have given the same results.( that I was aware of for the last 60 years.) Good grief.
  11. What kills me is the same people who believe in Bigfoot are the same people denying global warming.........unbelievable
  12. While reading a 1905 "Morning Courier" from DuBois I ran across the very first track meet to every happen at DHS. It was at the Driving Park in May. we won. The hammer was thrown. No Javelin or discus. The "running broad jump" event went 19 feet. The "running high jump" went 4' 11.5 " The pole vault went 8' 1" The Athletic Association" at the school put it on. The coach was "Bob" Reed. Our biggest winner was a "J. Harrington" who took 4 firsts. Schools attending were DuBois, Reynoldsville, ridgeway, and Clearfield. DuBois scored 58 out of a possible 101 points. "Patchell" of DuBois won the mile in 5:38. Harrington threw the shot 35' By 1906 all the locker rooms were at the driving Park, and the teams would celebrate with a dance at the pavilion there, after the meet.
  13. Perhaps not, but it is the REASON a person can fall for those things. I'm thinking "no wonder".....
  14. Honestly, anyone who falls for any of this Bigfoot stuff has GOT to be a real sucker. I have a Yeti in my backyard for sale, by the way.
