▫️Sex Offender Arrested After Attempted Escape
A registered sex offender in Chippewa Falls is back in custody after police say he cut off his ankle bracelet on Friday. Police rushed to an apartment complex on Pearl Street after they say Todd Leary snipped his ankle monitor bracelet Friday afternoon. The apartments aren’t far from the St. Charles Borromeo schools. Chippewa Falls Public Schools were also called as precaution. He’s now back behind bars.

▫️Vigilantes shed light on need of response to child predators
Two Valparaiso-area men were arrested this month alone on child predator charges as a result of sting operations set up by area vigilantes. And one group, calling itself NWI predator catchers, posted an additional video just this past week portraying what is says is a 45-year-old Crown Point man “coming to meet with what he believes is a 13 Y/O child for a movie night while mom is at work.”  NWI predator catchers was behind the Sept. 8 arrest of Zachary Crohan, 25, of Valparaiso, a self-proclaimed military veteran, who is accused of showing up late at night along the 1300 block of Lincolnway in Valparaiso to meet what he thought was a 13-year-old girl for sex. Another Valparaiso-area man, James Wyatt, 50, was arrested Sept. 13 after allegedly falling for a similar vigilante sting that he thought was an underage girl looking for sex, Valparaiso police said.

▫️Ga. trooper arrests man accused of faking his own death to avoid child rape charges
NEW ORLEANS — A man arrested after a weekend police pursuit and motorcycle crash in Georgia turned out to be a fugitive accused of avoiding a child rape charge by faking his own drowning death last month in a Mississippi River kayaking accident, according to a Louisiana sheriff. Melvin Emde, 41, of Talihina, Oklahoma, had been reported missing by his son early on Aug. 7, St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne said in a news release. Authorities were told at the time that Emde had fallen from a kayak while fishing and had drowned. The sheriff's office reported at the time that the search spanned two days and used divers, sonar, a small boat and a drone.

▫️Virginia man guilty of sex trafficking attempt in Billings
Afederal jury convicted a Virginia man earlier week of trying to arrange for sex with a child while in Billings. Mark Samuel Baker, 57, was found guilty of attempted sex trafficking of a minor after a two-day trial in United States District Court. The indictment and eventual conviction of Baker followed an instigation on the part of the FBI, Montana Division of Criminal Investigation and Billings Police Department. “Baker got caught in an undercover sting when he tried to arrange to have commercial sex with an individual he thought was a minor under 16,” U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich said in a statement published after the guilty verdict.

PHOENIX — An Arizona man was sentenced to seven years in prison for attempted child sex trafficking on Thursday, authorities said. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said Adan Ivan Munoz Espinoza, 36, was initially arrested in January. That’s when a Phoenix Police detective caught him in a sting operation, officials said.

PUEBLO, Colo.  - Two Pueblo brothers face multiple charges after they kept multiple people, including teens, against their will. The suspects were arrested after a standoff with Pueblo Police. ▫️Woman Accused of Forcing Migrant Child to Work in Georgia Produce Fields
This month, Georgia officials in Echols County arrested 30-year-old Genara Juan-Ramos and charged her with two counts of first-degree cruelty to children and one count of human trafficking. In February, local law enforcement requested help from the human trafficking unit of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in the case. Officials allege that Juan-Ramos forced her nephew, a migrant child, to work picking produce in fields after he arrived in the United States. Juan-Ramos also allegedly physically abused the migrant child. As a result, the child ran away and contacted law enforcement to get help.

▫️Greenfield man charged with 81 child sexual abuse felonies
GREENFIELD — A Greenfield man is being accused of having sexual relations with a 14-year-old when he was 20. Dakota L. Paxton, 21, of Greenfield, was arrested Sept. 19 on an Adair County warrant on 83 child sexual abuse charges, 81 of them being felonies. The charges stem from incidents last fall. Paxton was charged with 39 counts of sexual abuse third; 37 counts of enticing a child 16 years or younger for a sexual purpose; five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of possessing a depiction of a minor in a sex act.

▫️SF Daycare Worker Gets 25 Years for Child Sex Abuse Images
An employee of a San Francisco daycare center who pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing child sex abuse images has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison, the U.S. Department of Justice said Monday. Jace Wong, 26, was taken into custody in April 2021 after an undercover officer allegedly linked him to a video during a chat of a girl between 4 and 6 years old with her pants down and vagina exposed. Officers were able to identify Wong and his location through his cellphone and arrest him. Officers also discovered the black-and-white tiled bathroom in which the child was standing in the childcare facility. Other videos and images from that bathroom were also discovered, prosecutors said.

▫️Former Nelson EMS coordinator Raymond Uttaro denied bond on child sex charges
A Shipman man accused of more than two dozen sex-related charges was denied bond in Nelson Circuit Court on Friday. Raymond Matthew Uttaro, 64, was arrested and charged in July with two counts of sexual abuse of child under 15 years of age; carnal knowledge of a child between ages 13 and 15; and use of or display of a firearm in the commission of a felony; and one count each of abduction with the intent to extort money for immoral purpose; and production, publication, sale or financing of child pornography, according to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

▫️Three arrested in Edmond massage parlor prostitution sting
EDMOND, Okla.  – Three people were arrested as part of a joint operation targeting prostitution at an Edmond business. According to officials, the Edmond Police Criminal Investigations Division worked alongside the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics Human Trafficking Unit to arrest three people working at World Massage Spa who were allegedly involved in the solicitation of sex acts. Edmond Police say 49-year-old Yeong Jeoung Kim, 41-year-old Vipada Dozaki and 74-year-old Myong Chil Witt are all facing charges relating to prostitution and unlawful activities at the parlor. ▫️Former caretaker faces 3,094 years after pleading guilty to sexual assault: DA
LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa.  — A former caretaker has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing fourteen residents while working at Faith Friendship Villa in Pennsylvania, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney. The man, 69-year-old James Zook, pleaded guilty on Monday morning to 329 counts of institutional sexual assault, 333 counts of indecent assault, and one count of disorderly conduct, according to the DA's office. These charges came from reports of abuse from individuals under his care at Faith Friendship Villa, a non-profit personal care home for individuals with mental illness or other disabilities, according to documents.

JUPITER, Fla.  — A couple accused of child abuse and false imprisonment after their adopted teenage son told police he was forced to live in a tiny enclosure in the family garage, are about to stand trial. ▫️Operation Traffic Stop 2: 21 Rescued, Polk County athletic director, coach among 219 arrested in human trafficking-focused bust
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - More than 200 suspects, including a Polk County athletic director and a coach have been arrested in a multi-agency human trafficking operation. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the week-long undercover investigation also identified 21 human trafficking victims. There was a total of 44 felonies and 242 misdemeanors charged throughout the investigation. During a seven-day undercover human trafficking operation, which began on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit arrested Maria Guzman and Freddy Escalona for human trafficking. Maria Guzman, DOB 5/29/1987, of Orlando, was charged with Human Trafficking (F1), and Deriving Proceeds. Guzman trafficked two victims from a hotel in Orlando. He told detectives that he had “several females that he worked” who paid him to transport them and “keep them safe.” The investigation is ongoing, and further charges are pending.

▫️Five charged with human trafficking in Hays County
In the second major series of arrests in recent weeks in Hays County, the Kyle Police Department announced in a press release that officers had arrested five people in connection to a human smuggling case. The release stated that smugglers were trying to ransom victims demanding families pay additional money. Police stated that at approximately 6.30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17, the Kyle Police Department dispatch received a call from a person saying a relative was being held for ransom by alleged human smugglers. Police said that all five men have been charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and trafficking of persons. Four of the individuals who were being held by the alleged traffickers provided interviews to the police and one of the victims was transported to a regional hospital, where they remained at time of press.

▫️Most wanted sex offender in Colorado captured
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - A sexually violent predator who has been featured on KKTV’s “Wanted Wednesday” segment has been captured. David Mack was convicted of attempted sexual assault on a child and was wanted by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office for failing to register as a sex offender. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is reporting he was taken into custody on Monday by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office after the CBI was able to track him down. Mack was the number one most wanted sex offender according to their latest list.

▫️Man accused of holding sex worker in cinder block cell charged with rape in new case
An Oregon man awaiting federal trial for allegedly kidnapping a Seattle sex worker and holding her captive in a cinder block cell has been hit with charges in connection to a similar case. Negasi Zuberi, 29, was indicted last week on multiple felony charges, including first-degree rape, sexual abuse, kidnapping, and assault, NBC News reported, citing court records in Klamath County. The DA’s office declined to comment to the outlet about the new Oregon case, which was filed about a month after the alleged predator was charged with attempted escape and disorderly conduct in connection with his effort to flee from jail.

▫️Man with ties to Mexico charged with online sex trafficking of Columbia girl under age 15
Officials say a Columbia girl under the age of 15 was the target of online sexual trafficking by a man with ties to the area but an unknown residence. Francisco Acosta-Flores, 32, was charged Wednesday with 2nd degree sexual trafficking of a child, a crime that carries a penalty up to life in prison.

▫️Two Long Island Men Separately Indicted for Running National Sex Trafficking Businesses
Earlier today in federal court in Central Islip, an 11-count indictment was unsealed charging Lamont Young, also known as “Paper,” with sex trafficking by force, sex trafficking of a minor and interstate prostitution.    Young was arrested today on Long Island and was arraigned this afternoon before United States Magistrate Judge James M. Wicks.  Young was ordered detained pending trial. Earlier this week, on September 26, 2023, a six-count indictment was also unsealed in federal court in Central Islip charging Michail McKen, also known as “Kells,” with sex trafficking by force and interstate prostitution.  McKen was arrested this morning in Arizona.  He will make his initial appearance in federal court in Phoenix later this afternoon.  “As alleged, Young and McKen each ran a national sex trafficking business, including on Long Island, forcing vulnerable females into commercial sex work for the defendants’ financial benefit,” stated United States Attorney Peace.

A federal jury on Tuesday convicted a Davenport man on charges of producing, distributing and possessing child pornography after a two-day trial in U.S. District Court, Davenport. David Michael Woods, 51, was found guilty of two counts of production of child pornography, one count of distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. Woods sexually abused two minor victims in his care and produced recordings of the abuse and other sexual images of the victims that he sent to other people.

▫️St. Louis County man accused of child sex crimes, linked to six victims
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Louis County man is accused of coercing children overseas to engage in sexually explicit conduct. Sanel Smajlovic, 33, was indicted in federal court earlier this month on four counts of attempted production of child pornography. The indictment accuses of Smajlovic of coercing a six minors on four occasions from 2018-2019 and also says the case is part of a larger investigation. According to the indictment, Smajlovic directed the sexual abuse of children and later paid the adults who provided the children. Traffickers in the Philippines reportedly provided access to pre-produced child sexual abuse material to Smajlovic and live-streamed the sexual abuse of children to paying customers worldwide.

Earlier today, in federal court in Brooklyn, Timothy Martinez was sentenced by United States District Judge Frederic Block to 15 years in prison for two counts of sexual exploitation and attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of attempted receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.  Martinez was employed as a police officer by the New York City Police Department and immediately prior to his arrest, was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Earlier this month, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) wrote to the Justice Department demanding that the alleged list of Hunter’s prostitutes be provided to Congress – arguing that they could be “victims who were sexually exploited” by Hunter and in need of federal support.
Federal investigators floated sex trafficking charges against Hunter Biden, according to a document released by Republican members on the House Ways and Means Committee. The committee obtained the document as part of its Hunter Biden investigation. It released a large batch on Wednesday to coincide with the House Oversight Committee's first impeachment inquiry hearing against President Biden on Thursday. According to the document, Jack Morgan, an IRS tax crimes prosecutor, in October 2020 sent nine cases regarding Hunter Biden and prostitutes to Assistant U.S. Attorney Lesley Wolf.
Two communications appear to have been discovered by Morgan that show Hunter messaging sex traffickers as well, denoted as “Trafficker #1” and “Trafficker #2,” in his email to Wolf.

PONTIAC. Mich. - 40-year-old Robert Lee, a Pontiac vigilante who worked to expose child predators, was fatally shot Friday night at Universal Coney Island. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says Lee was at Universal Coney Island on Perry Street around 10.30 p.m. Investigators say he confronted two men sitting at a table; accusing one of them of being a pedophile and punching him.The man pulled out a knife and the other man at the table pulled out a gun and shot Lee multiple times, according to OCSO. Lee was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. Lee is known on social media as "Boopac Shakur" with 11,000 followers on his Facebook page. He poses as a 15-year-old girl online to expose child predators. His one-man crusade has led to the arrest and criminal charges being filed against several men.

Additional arrests included two individuals for seeking to have sex with minors and six for promoting prostitution. The youngest “John” arrested was 17, and the oldest was 84, according to the release. ▫️Operation Not Forgotten: FBI agents investigate missing and murdered indigenous women in Utah
In recent months, FBI agents have “surged” to tribal lands, investigating dozens of missing person cases and violent crimes, the bureau announced Friday.
More than 220 cases were handled by FBI investigators as part of the bureau’s missing and murdered Indigenous persons strategy. Operation Not Forgotten resulted in 40 arrest and search operations, and the identification of four children who were victims of crimes, FBI Section Chief Jonathan Tapp told CNN on Sunday. Tapp said the operation focused on death investigations and sex crimes. Prior to Operation Not Forgotten, the FBI worked to locate nearly 200 people who had gone missing from the Navajo Nation, the country’s largest Indian reservation, which spans parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. In what has been labeled a public health crisis, rates of murder, rape and violent crime among Native American and Alaska Native women are higher than the national average, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs. According to the National Crime Information Center, there were 5,712 reports of missing American Indian and Alaska Native women and girls in 2016. Only 116 of those cases were logged in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. The FBI declined an interview request to further comment on Operation Not Forgotten.

Sixteen of those counts are for deprivation of rights under the colour of law, meaning he willingly deprived a person of rights over their body. TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Police Department has rescued a 17-year-old human trafficking victim who was found on a prostitution website. On September 28, 2023, the Tampa Police Department (TPD) was notified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that images of a 17-year-old female victim were posted on an online prostitution website. Detectives with the TPD Special Victims Unit immediately began an investigation. On October 4, 2023, TPD SVU Detectives successfully recovered the teen. She has now been connected with resources, including the Tampa Police Victims Advocate, to assist her in accessing programs available to assist survivors of human trafficking. While no arrests have been made yet, the human trafficking investigation involving the victim remains active.

▫️Shelter Island Market Owner Marie Eiffel Wants Human Trafficking Lawsuit Dismissed
Shelter Island business woman Marie Eiffel — owner of her eponymous food market — filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed against her by former employees. In the complaint filed Sept. 5, eight former employees of Marie Eiffel Market accused their ex-boss of human trafficking, battery and New York labor law violations among other allegations. According to court documents reviewed by The Messenger, the plaintiffs were from Malaysia, Thailand, Colombia and Ecuador and worked for Eiffel in 2021 and 2022 on a J-1 visa. Among the accusations against Eiffel are that she "made sexually harassing, demeaning, and discriminatory comments about [employees'] race and looks," had an alleged habit of "butt-grabbing" and withheld tips from employees who didn't perform to her standards.

LUBBOCK, Texas— The Lubbock Police Department announced on Thursday that 14 people were arrested in connection with a prostitution sting. In addition, a female was contacted and identified as a possible victim of human trafficking. The Archdiocese of Washington is the target of a class-action lawsuit accusing Roman Catholic officials of allowing clergy to sexually abuse children for decades. OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Darrell Weaver, R-Moore, hosted an interim study at the capitol Tuesday and said he hopes to weigh options on education about human trafficking as well as raise awareness. “This is something that’s multifaceted. It’s broad. It affects families, it affects schools, anything to do with kids and I think that we need to look at all that,” Weaver said. “Listen, it’s real and some think, well, we don’t have that type of problem, but we do have a problem.” Since 2007, Oklahoma has seen more than 3,100 signals from the national human trafficking hotline. WACO, Texas - A Central Texas couple was arrested by the Waco Police Department after allegedly endangering children under 17 and indecency with a child. Shania Escante, 37, has been charged with abandoning or endangering a child, a state jail felony, after the victims told police she continued to live in the same home as Angel and the two victims. Jacob Lance Pritchett, 33, was sentenced to life in prison after being charged following investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service. ▫️Online recruiting investigation leads to rearrest of accused Miami sex trafficker
According to prosecutors, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office Human Trafficking Task Force was notified by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office in California that “a 2018 online undercover California investigation aimed at identifying potential human traffickers and predators, led back to a Miami source identifying himself online with the username of ‘handsome_and_wealthy_305'.  Authorities say the Miami-Dade Task Force members were able to identify the user as Ruben Gonzalez, who was already facing human trafficking charges in Miami-Dade County.

▫️DeSoto man who drugged, sex trafficked young girls sentenced to life in prison
A DeSoto man was sentenced to life in prison on Friday after drugging and trafficking young girls. 42-year-old Anjum Zafar Mian was convicted in July on 15 counts of sex trafficking and other counts of sexually exploiting children. Police previously told FOX 4 say there are at least five victims. Four of them are teens. Mian forced at least two young girls, who were 16 and 17 at the time, into commercial sex by threatening to hurt their family, according to evidence.

▫️Local judge under investigation for child abuse
ORLANDO, Fla. – Jeff Ashton, the prosecutor who handled the Casey Anthony case and who is now a judge in Orange and Osceola counties, is a subject of allegations related to child abuse, according to an executive order signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis. The executive order, posted publicly on the governor’s website on Oct. 11, was issued because State Attorney Andrew Bain, who works with Ashton in the Ninth Judicial Circuit, had voluntarily disqualified himself from the matter and asked it to be reassigned. A sex offender from Queens ordered custom-made child pornography from the Philippines, telling a woman on the other side of a video call exactly what he wanted done to her underage “daughter,” federal prosecutors allege.
Federal authorities caught wind of Daniel Galanter, 55, as part of a years-long investigation into the underground child sex webcam industry in the Philippines, when his name showed up in one of the alleged conspirators’ Skype logs, according to court documents.
He would share more than 3,500 messages with the Skype user between then and May 2022, and would order “bespoke” videos and photos of young girls being abused, according to federal authorities.
Galanter, who’s now living in the Bronx, resided in Queens when he committed the alleged offenses, law enforcement sources said.
