If you do have to prune them, please don't prune them into ball shapes. Try to keep a natural shape to them by pruning the longest "arms" first to a length shorter than the short ones. Rhodos have a lovely shape naturally and those, like the forsythias, should never be pruned with hedge clippers.

THE ONES LABELED AS "HARDY" ARE SUPPOSEDLY PERENNIAL. I HAVE never HAD ONE WINTER OVER BUT HAVE SEEN OTHER GARDENS WITH mums that obviously have been there for years.

Thanks Lavender. After I pull them, do I leave them in dirt? water through the winter? Dry them and out them in a paper bag? I don't want to ruin them. I DO LOVE THEM!

The cannas have to be pulled and the tuber dried over the winter, correct? Altho, in front of the cath church in Punxy there are 2 square gardens cut out of the front walkway and there seem to be more and more cannas in there each summer when I walk by. Do you think they pull them and they are still multiplying?

I went there as well and got some rose bushes, rhododendrons, mums, pincushions and a white hydrangea that has a pointy type flower that has a slight blush to it. I hope it grows. i'm very curious to see what it will look like with some food and pruning next year.
