Black swallowtail Common Name: Black swallowtail Scientific Name: Papilio polyxenes asterius Stoll Order: Lepidoptera Description: The black swallowtail is a black butterfly with yellow markings near the margins of the forewings and hindwings and more limited blue and red markings on the hindwings.
