Petee
Before the ground freezes, find one or more of these trees and get them into the ground! They're all hardy right here in the DuBois area. http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/5270785/list?utm_source=Houzz&utm_campaign=u191&utm_medium=email&utm_content=gallery12

Petee
Nope, not till the ground freezes. My husband and I once went out on the walkway in January to plant bulbs in the corners of the raised beds. They grew just fine and bloomed. Petee
Here's a couple more tree suggestions: small leaves, non-invasive with color in different seasons. I have had both for many years and like them. Sunburst Locust would give you no leaves to deal with but not much spring or fall color, just gorgeous dappled summer shade. We had to cut ours down because I left a lower branch that should have been removed when the tree was young. Young ones popped up from the roots but we just cut them back leaving the one in the location we wanted. They grow fast. Be sure to choose a good hybrid and not the common species. Hybridized Hawthorne http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/1000/1051.html would give you good color in the spring and fall with small leaves. I have a couple of wild ones here and I just took off the bottom branches and scraped the thorns off of the trunk. They never came back. I really like the trees. They don't get huge, just medium sized.
