  1. My green peppers always do very well. I usally buy california wonders. I had a bumper crop last year. I can't remember what I got this year but the plants look sickly. I don't think I am going to have a good. I bought a new variety last year, I think something girl, and they produced tons of peppers and early. I grew jalapeno a couple of years and had to many to use that I was giving them away. I was making poppers with them. Hungarian hot was another great producer. I am growing plants for my brother this year. I will just take a few of his and he can have the rest. I always have a good turnout of green beans too.
  2. We have 3 different lilac trees. The one we cut back to about 4 ft and it grew really fast. It needs cut back again. The other ones are not as big and I think I am just going to cut maybe a foot or 2 off of them. We have little shoots coming up everywhere around the 2 smaller ones. I am trying to let them grow if hubby would quit running them over with the lawn mower.
  3. We have a huge rhododendron in the front of our house that we cut back. It was almost touching the house. We didn't want to do it but it needed done. We just cut pieces of it at ground level and it work for us. Never touched the front of it. Now I have lilacs to do.
  4. It needs transplanted but I am afraid to do it. I don't want to kill mine. I am good at doing that with houseplants. lol
  5. That is it!!! Thank you very much.
  6. nope, not either one of them. My flowers don't open. They look like pelican beaks and the leaves are very small. I might have to take a better picture.
  7. thank you I will check out the pages.
  8. I got this plant years ago and still don't know what it is. I didn't think it would get any flowers(just thought it was a plain houseplant) but it has been blooming for about 5 years. It is beautiful and loves the window I have it in.
  9. I am not sure about moving them now. I know I did it before but don't remember what happened. You have to get alot of the root. You could try with a little bit of it. If there are any buds, I wouldn't do it now.
  10. Did you get the seeds I mailed out to the ones that asked? I sent them out on Wed.
  11. I have never seen purple moonflowers. I bet they are pretty. I have the ones that reseed themselves. I still have seeds left if anyone wants some.
  12. VP....sprinkle them around now. They will still grow. When you think you are going to get nothing you notice little things coming up. I know my first year they were late to come up but I did get them. I got seeds off of a neighbor. Now I have too many seeds and nowhere to plant them.
  13. they won't start popping up until around June. They are late plants.
  14. I've never had anything eat mine but that might be because of where they are planted. Right by the front porch and we don't really get many deer that come down that far.
  15. thanks. some of them are just emerging but a few have the tip of the flower stalk coming up. They are my favorite flowers that I have.
  16. I have some hyacinths planted around my hostas. I forgot how big hostas get and now I need to move the hyacinths. Can I do it after they bloom? I need to do the same with my tulips. Thanks.
  17. I don't nick mine. When the pods open, I just scatter the seeds around. I have also done this in the fall. The first year I planted, I learned not to pull up the whole plant. I don't know about the bought seed packets. I have always started my plants with seeds from the plant the following year. You can just let the pods open wherever you plant them and they will replant themselves.
  18. I just picked a bunch of the bulbs that the seeds are in. Does anyone want any? PM me your address and I will send you some in the mail when they are dried out.
  19. It is flowering? Ours was done in spring. I do have a question though. When is the best time to cut them back. Ours is really big and covering the front of the house.
  20. When my mom moved, we took a piece of her's. We dug it out and then planted. We have a large tree now with lots of flowers. It should bloom the following year that you plant it. If you can't dig a piece out, sorry but I can't help there.
  21. Cinnamon Crisps Makes 3-4 dozen 1 1/4 cups flour 1/4 tsp salt 1 cup sugar 1 tsp almond extract 2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 cup shortening 1 egg 1/2 cup almonds, finely chopped Preheat oven to 375. Grease 2 baking sheets. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. In a large bowl; cream shortening and sugar. Beat in the egg. Beat in the almond extract. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Combine the almonds and cinnamon in a shallow dish. Pinch off walnut sized pieces of dough and roll into balls. Roll in the almond mixture and place 1 /12 inches apart on the baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Place on rack to cool. These are very good.
  22. Nut Horns 1 lb butter 1 lb cream cheese 4 1/2 cups flour powdered sugar Cream butter and cream cheese. Add flour gradually. Cover and chill overnight. Divide into thirds. On powdered sugared surface, roll each portion to 12 1/2 X 10 in rectangle. Cut into 2 1/2 in squares. Place a dot of nut mixture or preserves in center of each square. Bring up 2 diagonal corners to center of square and fold over. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets in 350 degrees oven for 15-20 min. Nut Mixture 1 cup brown sugar 4 egg whites 2 lb chopped walnuts 1 cup sugar 1 tsp vanilla 1 can evaporated milk A few tips: This makes about 10 dozen cookies. It is better if someone helps you because the dough will melt if it gets too warm. I found a can lid that was the perfect size for cutting or maybe you have a square cookie cutter. I use the baking fillings for other flavors like apricot or poppyseed.
