  7. Anyone know of a good fly deterrent other than a shotgun? We have them bad and can't figure out why. You kill one and 10 more appear.
  8. I've seen them on fence posts too. We had one that sat in the garden and ate the tomatoes like you would an apple. He was big too. Does that mean tomatoes are actually fattening? :-/ Can't call them stupid critters that's for sure.

Meat potatoes and your vegetable.
  10. Every year I plant brussel sprouts andnothing botheres them. This year something has eatenoff just the tops, not the baby sprouts, of the plants. Will the sprouts still grow the way they should or are they done? I know from what I have read that the top leaves act like an umbrella and keep the sun off of them. Thats why you pull off the lower leaves so they can grow. I thought that the deer got them but there are no foot prints. And the wind pushed my corn over. At least we have tators and green beans so far. We won't discuss the carrots.
  11. I had purple leves on my cauliflower last year. Fouond out I got the wrong kind and instead of white colored I got the kind you need to tie up and it turned purplr. Tasted the same though
  12. I canned 36 pints of green beans so far in the last two day. Will be more this week. I kept waiting for a snake to slither over my foot and then I would have been done. I hate slithery limey, creep crawly things. 'SHIVER"
  13. we have picked lettuce, cukes, beans and tators. our gourds ar glofball size and the onions are the size of tennis balls.
  14. Oh well I was just curious. I don't have a camera to get a picture. Thanks anyway
  15. I have little green things that look like little tomatoes on my potato stalks. Anyone know what they are?
  16. Ok since I found someone who knows about mushrooms. What are the ones that look lasagna noodles called? they are flat and wavy like noodles.
  17. My zebra grasss started out in clumps and each year the clumps have gotten larger. I have a 12 foot section and it's still growing.
  18. I have used just the Fels to scrub all kinds of stuff. They made my cloth kitchen chairs look like new again. I used a brush some water and a bar of Fels and then used a clean wet cloth to kind of dry them.
  19. mine were turning black all over but then cleared up. I think it's too much rain.
  20. I got mine at Bilo in Brookville for 1.39. The floor manager said that he had to start stocking the ingredients again baecause the amish were looking for it too. so if a store near you doesn't have the stuff maybe they will order them for you. I know the store I generally buy groceries at will. I just have to ask them.
  21. I saw on a gardening show that irish spring will kekep deer away also a n egg 4 cups of water and a teaspoon of Dawn to spry around the garde
  22. Although I haven't made the home made laundry soap yet, I did get the stuff. I needed to recover my ktchen chairs and one day I was using some of the Fels I got to clean a spot on the carpet. I dump the container of water I was using on the chair. It came out as good as new (after it took two days to dry out) So today I thought I'd try again. I have a tile table with grout that no cleaner even grout cleaner would touch. I took a bar of Fels and ran it along the seam and used a brush on it. You could actually see the stains and stuff dissolve. The table looks like new again. ;D 1.39 a bar best investment I've made in a long time. I even used it on my oak cupboard doors. worked like a charm. Goes to show you, you don't need a bunch of expensive stuff to clean with. Has anyone tried the laundry soap in a rug scrubber? I know it takes out spots that's been there forever.
  23. My tators, tomatoes and beans are all in blossom. The corn took a jump and is really tall now. My cukes that started out looking like beans finally look like cuke plants.
  24. Don't know about shooting or trapping but we put moth balls around the outside of the garden and it keeps the critters out.Or marigolds work too cause they stink. Just don't put the moth balls around the plants. I saw this on a gardening show. If you do catch and release be careful they can be mean little buggers
