I have never seen some of those images of Edgemont Park on the websites listed how cool to know this was a very bigtime amusement park back in the day. There was also a place called Electric Park where DRMC stands now right beside the Rumbarger Cemetary, I would also love to find out some info and see pics on that park too if we can locate any, being right by the cemetary you'd think there would be some type of backgrond photos taken with some views of this park. The hospital bought the land from the park to build so there must be a record of it right?? Back to Edgemont, I remember back early 60's the area where the hotel sits having a trailer court up on top my grandparents lived there when I was very young. I also agree that it was right around where the tie plant sits now, that this great park once stood. It looks to have been pretty good size area according to all the pics.

I too played there in a band back then in the 70s as did my uncle Bruce who lived in the upstairs apt. Country band his and ours.

I read this book, I borrowed it from the library. He was comical on the radio, I remember my gram and great gram listening to him faithfully when I was young. Interresting book too. I still can here his voice on the radio... deja voo!!!

What did the store sell? Never heard of it but, you can look up old newspaper films at the library from clear back then to read some of the advertisements are pretty cool they mostly always have the address on the ad and some 2 and 3 digit phone numbers I am too young to remember 3 digit numbers and no zip codes, but its neat to reread the old papers, might find the answer there.

Anyone remember Echo Glen? On way to Grampian, my uncle and family(5 kids) lived upstairs it was a giant apartment, on Sundays we kids would help clean the bar and play house (or bar) in there when they were closed. I'm talking early 70's. It burnt a few years later I remember.

In 1986-87-88 basement of the Pershing was Bottoms Up. Many nights drinking in there. We had this discussion not too long ago on here and I came up with this name before remember? Don't forget the gateway cafe and P & M(now the Jared bar)My uncles family had Minns bar before it became Reeses.

The Edgemont dispute drives me nuts I always picture the place right along Larkeytown road but, its true the creek was rerouted so who the heck is alive that could even tell us where it was or how it looked then. The DuBois Hospital is also the exact place another park was called Electric Park, I've never seen any pics of this though but, also read of it ion all the local history books.

Agree with petee it is in the Jan Nichols books and writtten also in Pentz history of DuBois.

I kind of figured Edgemont park was behind or around Jackson china . If you are on Larkeytown road and go over the bridge and look out across the creek you can envision it being back in there, probably way before the china plant I don't know though. I always thought around the adrian furnace side of the road since the trolley ran there but, I believe it ran the whole way to Falls Creek so it could very well have been down further the other side of the bridge.

In the 1st pic why does it look like freshly laid limestone chips running down the center of the tracks, cause I doubt there would be or what is it?

Edgemont park was over the back way to Falls Creek from Quarry Ave. haven't figured out exactly where but, over in that vicinity past Adrian furnace. Was at the time the amusement park of the area. Trolley went to it from DuBois, there was many company picnics held there,according to old local histories and stories

Speaking of U.S.Grant the little village of Grant down in the valley is named for him because he use to come here to fish and hunt.

Electric park is where the west hospital is now. If you read some of the early history of DuBois you will see it was a picnicing social gathering place . It is mentioned in a few of the old boooks about DuBois. Jan Nichols book also talks about it, I would love to see pics of it or learn more about it. The hospital at the time was a house on Scribner by where the city bldg. is now. When they bought the land where electric park stood to build todays DRMC WEST.

Mom told me not to buy one I'm getting one from santa... woo hoo! Off subject I have all of them but, am missing the mansion due to smashing it a few years ago if anyone knows of somewhere I could get a replacement it would make my day, xmas. I was heartbroken when I broke it and unless someone actually has one to part with you can't buy those ones anymore..wish they would make a few more of past ones for this reason.

Definately heartless especially if you happened to have relatives there.

Foxfan, what is your problem with the history posts on here? You already made it VERY clear you don't care about helping with the cemetary. Now, just because bluejay said he saw how bad of shape the wigwam is you have something to say about that. If you don't care about this kind of stuff don't post about it. By the way, I have never trespassed up there. I'm sure you would be the 1st to report it if someone did though..Good grief get a grip no one is doing anything wrong we are just talking about this stuff.

Someones agenda is at least giving hope to the dream of keeping the wigwam alive even if its only in memories. Some of us on here enjoy reading the wigwam stories and would welcome anyone who is trying to "maybe" get the place a 2nd chance.If we want to drive by and look who cares as long as no one is disrespecting or disobeying the signs.

Where did you get this pic? The reason I ask is at the library they have a book this is the front of it, it has a lot of pics in it and I believe the addresses. You have to look at it there its a reference book and cannot be taken out of the library. Most of those were on the east side up around the mansion (penn state).

A lot of progress being made up there. To all who are doing it, a big "thank you" its so nice to see attention being paid and the place getting a well needed spruce up.

Wow isn't it cool when you find out stuff like that? I have no relatives in this cemetary but, live and work close to it. I walk up around there a lot, they are doing good things lately up there.Would love to help out on the 9th but, am working until 5:30 a.m. and don't know how long everyone will be up there. I probably wouldn't be able to come until around 2 if anyone is still going to be there.

Back to the real point of this thread will anyone volunteer on the 9th to help for a godubois day clean-up or not? The local history teachers should think about having their classes help out and the kids could get their required community service done plus the cemetary would benefit. I know school is out now but, even for some future history class projects, upkeep and preserving of the cemetary could be part of it. In the meantime those willing to volunteer hopefully will come on the 9th. Foxfans comments are just the type of noncaring attitude that got this cemetary in the mess it is today. All I can say to these comments is what goes around comes around, hope foxfan has a plot ready with a cemetary caretaker already in place,or maybe even snakes and foxes will invade the plot when you are buried there and your living relatives won't care enough to clean it up, cause "it dosen't matter" right?

I am willing to come, give me a time, the only thing with me is I just had recent shoulder surgery and know I can't do any major lifting but, will do whatever I can to help out awhile. If my relatives were there I think I would be ashamed of not trying to help out, thankfully mine are in tended and cared for cemetaries. Never the less I want to help out in some way,I can't stand looking at it and not doing anything about it anymore.
