What could you possibly do with a 150 year-old cemetery that had been left go for years, neglected and overgrown ?

Have driven by...the cemetery looks so very nice. So many thanks to those who have worked so hard to make it something the people of this town can be proud of. I am glad I have been able to see the cemetery take a 360 degree turn in its appearance. Does your heart good to see so much respect.

The Childs Mausoleum received a mulch and landscaping refresher from volunteers Megan Baummer, Paul Baummer, Ashley Cherubini, Shawna Bassett, Brad McGinnis and Kathleen Byrd. They all volunteered their time this past Saturday on Comcast Cares Day.

James Burkeholder owner of Yardworks, brought his staff and the staff from Fed Ex to volunteer for the day at Rumbarger on Earth Day. James and his volunteers layed over 500 feet of conduit. The sign on Main street and the Soldiers Circle is now lit up at night.

Volunteers needed this Saturday April 30th.
The Rumbarger Cemetery Preservation Society is thrilled to announce that they have been picked as this years ComCast Cares Day recipient. On Saturday morning April 30th, local Comcast NBC Universal and their employees, families, friends and community partners will "make change happen" as they volunteer to improve DuBois as part of the annual Comcast Cares Day.Volunteers will be cleaning and restoring Rumbarger Cemetery on South Main street in DuBois from 8AM to 1PM. Registration is between 8AM and 9AM. A breakfast will also be provided for all the volunteers.Anyone in the community is welcome to show up and volunteer. We will get credit for each person attending. We have many different jobs and projects available for the volunteers to do. Comcast will also have forms available for any students attending for their required community service hours for school. Any one needing community service hours is also welcome.
We are looking for businesses, families, students, service clubs, fire depts, church groups, ball teams, soccer teams, girl and boy scout troops and individuals to come out and volunteer on April 30th. We have jobs for everyone. We have mulch to put down, a porta potty enclosure to build, pavers to place down, a stone wall needs rebuilt, landscaping, raking, mowing, trimming, weedeating, sweeping sidewalks, trimming bushes back, picking up garbage, picking up rocks that could get run over by mowers, painting of doors and metal railings, scrapping moss off of stone walls, etc. There is something for everyone to do. You also don't have to stay the full 4 hours. If you can only volunteer for an hour or two, that is ok, but you do need to register by 9AM. -

A breakfast will also be provided for all the volunteers.Each April Comcast picks a non profit organization to volunteer with and the Comcast Foundation will also provide a grant to the Rumbarger Cemetery Preservation Society on behalf of each volunteer that shows up to work that day.Melanie McGinnis, the Treasurer of the RCPS, applied for the grant in February and said "we were thrilled to learn in March that we were picked to receive this community grant". Our group is comprised of 9 volunteers that volunteer on weekends and after work to improve the cemetery and grounds. The cemetery is 8 acres and is in need of constant upkeep. Our society has come a long way in 6 years with many new improvements made every year. Each year we complete several projects that improve the look of the cemetery and the Main street in DuBois. Most of our board members work, so getting people to help us out is always a great thing. We have a limited amount of mowers,weedeaters, rakes, shovels and brooms for people to use. It would help us if people would bring their own tools to use. We would also like to thank Chrissy Anderson from our local DuBois Comcast office for all her help. Chrissy helped us out a few years and has been instrumental in helping us again this year.

Another major project completed in 2015 by the RCPS. The old and broken cement wall that was falling over onto the sidewalk on Main street has been removed. It will be much easier to mow now that it has been graded, leveled and seeded.

Rumbarger Cemetery Preservation Society

In the beginning of October, John Micks President of the Rumbarger Cemetery Preservation Society and the board members of the RCPS, gave a tour of Rumbarger Cemetery to several veterans in October 2016. Shown is the Soldiers Circle. Rumbarger has veterans from every war buried on Main Street. The board members place flags every year at all veterans graves in the cemetery. There is over 100 veterans buried in Rumbarger.
