  2. This story would have to be one of the biggest potential nightmares for anyone who is a parent. Some would blame Liberalism for this kid's decision to murder his parents and kid brothers. Some would blame Satan. The biggest contributor to Nicholas Browning's crime would probably be hormones and restlessness that comes with adolescence. Friends of the Browning family, many of whom held a candlelight vigil Sunday evening at the half-million dollar farmhouse-style home where authorities say the killings happened, said they were shocked. Someone hung a small, silver-colored crucifix on the mailbox. The father, John Browning, was "beloved and well-revered. I'm told this is not the kind of family that this could happen to," said the Rev. Frances Dailey, pastor of Timonium United Methodist Church, where the Brownings' Troop 328 met in the suburban Balitmore community. Officials believe the teen, Nicholas Browning, had shot his father, mother, and brothers with one of his father's guns Friday, then tossed the handgun in some bushes and left. Authorities said friends dropped Nicholas off on Saturday, and soon after, he came out of the house to say he had found his father's body on the ground floor. He then called 911. "A caller reported to 911 that a 45-year-old male was lying on the couch with blood coming out of his nose. He was not breathing," charging documents said. Shortly before 5 p.m., officers found Nicholas' father dead in a ground-floor room and his mother and brothers' bodies in upstairs bedrooms. They also found the gun. The victims were John, 45; Tamara, 44; Gregory, 13, and Benjamin, 11. Police said Nicholas confessed early Sunday and was charged as an adult with four counts of first-degree murder. It was unclear whether he had an attorney. Nicholas had not been getting along with his father, police said in a news release, but investigators offered no other details. There was no sign of a confrontation Friday at the house, police said. John Browning, a real estate lawyer, had worked in Baltimore County's oldest law firm for nearly 20 years. He was a scoutmaster and a church leader. Nicholas, who was tall and gangly, was working toward becoming an Eagle Scout, and had built a prayer garden at his church to meet one of the requirements. His high school was one of the best in the county. Browning led camping, rock climbing and whitewater expeditions for his Boy Scout troop. The family also hosted meetings for scouts' parents at their home. "John was a wonderful man. He and his wife, Tammy, were very much in love. Together they were caring and loving parents to their children," Browning's law partners said in a statement. "John was also a man of much faith. And he so much enjoyed the outdoors." Two of Nicholas Browning's schoolmates drove past the house Sunday afternoon. They wept when they were told Nicholas was charged in the killings. "It's hard to believe someone could do this," said Brooke Kebaugh, 16. Liz Lazlawbach, 17, said Browning complained about fighting with his father, but "not about anything violent." Nicholas was formally arrested at 1:05 a.m. Sunday after admitting to the killings, Baltimore County Police spokesman Bill Toohey said. He was denied bail Sunday morning at a hearing. He was being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center in Towson in a special section for juveniles. His bail will be reviewed Monday in Towson, the county seat, six miles from the family's home. The county had 37 homicides last year, compared with 282 in nearby Baltimore. Toohey said there had not been a similar incident in the area since 1995, when a man killed his wife and three children before killing himself. Resident Mike Thomas said one of his sons had been in scouts with one of the Brownings' sons. The Brownings would go out of their way to help others, even stopping to pick up debris in the street, he said. "These people would do anything in the world for you — just incredible people," he said. Thomas said he recently sold John Browning a trailer that Browning planned to use for Boy Scout outings. It was parked Sunday in the family's driveway.
  3. Just occurred to me: Tough law and order mayors of big cities try to turn their cities into something like small towns. But small town living is what city dwellers want to avoid. Which is why these mayors don't have much traction in the long run.
  4. FedUp: Speaking of cities, it is nice of you to try and make Reynoldsville such a hot bed of legal precedence .I highly doubt that your little town is setting the tone of justice in America. Maybe your little town is just following along. Because of you I am going to do something I never thought possible. Defend that boring stupid town of Reynoldsville. I used to climb to the top of the hill where the water towers are and look down at the town imagining it being destroyed and then salted under like ancient Carthage. I hated it that much because it was so boring. Nothing to offer a nerdy imaginative kid like me. Then I would go home and read books and watch TV where I could at least have fun of enjoying interesting lives vicariously. And that is the appeal small towns have for people. Nothing happens there. They are safe. Not a big police force because a big one is not and was not needed. If you want your kid to roam the woods,maybe hunting and fishing, going camping, playing lots of youth sports and maybe as teens having beer parties out in the woods, then Reynoldsville and many such small towns are for you. I never found those activities in the least appealing. I knew Chief Milliron through his daughter. I once complained to him that nothing ever happens in Reynoldsville. He replied that's the way he wants to keep it. What my father did was done behind closed doors. Most men anywhere do not beat their wives or torture their babies. That kind of crime is an anomaly. Not any kind of a trend. Just a sad blip on the social radar, sometimes fatal. Kids in the Florida town you live in now are being abused. It isn't a trend. It is just something sadly horrible that happens and one can only hope the authorities can intervene before anything very bad happens.

  6. And just to be sure people know where I stand: Big cities have always had a crime problem and there isn't very much that can be done about it. This has been true since the days of ancient Egypt. I find it amazing that people who choose to live in small towns, who wouldn't want to stay overnight in a metropolitan area, would obsess over them so much.
  7. To save anybody the trouble of publishing more statistics to convince me of whatever, I have the same attitude toward statistics that Disraeli did: There are lies, there are damn lies, and then there are statistics.
  8. Yes crime is due to something other than Liberalism. It is due to the actions of the criminals. And many of these criminals are proud of their murder and mayhem. Doesnt matter if they are a crip or a neonazi. Going to prison even getting the death penalty is a badge of honor to these people. And Liberal run big cities tend to be crime ridden because they are big! They are very difficult to manage! You could put a tough law-and-order administration like Rizzo in Philadelphia or Guiliani in NYC and they will not make much of a dent in crime. Why? Because they are so big! Yet young people flock to live in these cities and it isn't because they have a big crime problem. Why? They are so big and have much to offer ambitious young people. And then the tough law-and-order mayors go to far fighting crime and ruin some of the things that attract people to cities and that people who live in cities enjoy. Remember how the Guiliana-era ACDC song "I Feel Safe in New York City" end? "I feel safe in a cage!" Living in a municipality ridden with crime is part of the price of enjoying big city life. Those who don't like it are free to move somewhere else.

  10. Very nice screed mostly filled with opinion. He cared so much about Robert Cuadra he misspelled his name. Of course those punks responsible will be freed after promising scouts honor not to ever hurt even a fly and Biden will fly in from Washington to give each of them a big hug if we are to believe this Paul deGroot. The kids who did this were gang members who probably see going to prison as a big achievement. Being charged with murder I'm sure they won't get a slap on the wrist. BTW: Reynoldsville, where I grew up, where my father tortured me as a 6-month old baby back in 1950 or 1951, has never been a hotbed of liberalism. You remember Reynoldsville? That little town a few miles outside DuBois? In Jefferson County? The town I identified when I first mentioned this incident? If anything Reynoldsville is more conservative than DuBois. SMH.
  11. I fail to see what this has anything to do with liberalism. I doubt that liberals advocate giving deranged psychopaths guns and giving them carte blanche to shoot people. In fact, liberals would want to toughen gun restrictions. They are also critical of toxic masculinity, which this jerk had in spades. And just because acts of violence take place in cities with a liberal government doesn't mean that liberalism is responsible for these acts of violence. More likely it is just jerks who think they they are god's gift to the world and they have the right to tell women and their children exactly how to live. Had Scott Hoke been a liberal he would have respected his daughter's right to have her own space and not infringe on it. He also would have left his wife and kid alone, and not insist in the name of patricarchal attitudes that his wife and child subject themselves to him. Instead Scott Hoke would have sought therapy to gain an understanding of his behavior and get treatment for his unresolved anger issues, probably medication for his depression, which is likely the source of his anger. Nothing that John Stuart Mill, John Rawls or any other leading liberal thinker would have sanctioned what Scott Node did to his wife and himself, let alone terrorizing his daughter. BAck in the fifties and sixties men were supposed to be the head of the household, the absolute ruler of the home, and he had every right to treat his woman and his children anyway he wanted, using hand, belt and maybe, depending on the attitudes of local law enforcement, even lethal force. If Liberalism is moving families away from such patriarchal sanctioned violence then I think it is for the better. Scott Hoke was no liberal. You may want to complain that Liberals are turning men into wimps, but wimps and nerds don't go around shooting people. Scott Hoke and his family would have been better off had he been a wimp in touch with his feelings. You made fun of people fired by Elon Musk from Twitter because they were crying. Unlikely any of them will be acting violently like a member of the Proud Boys or Oathkeepers. BTW: I watch and read my fair share of true crime . The Dahmer dramatization on Netflix was excellent.

Don't mean to insult you, but it sounds like you, along with others here, want to see a return to the period of the 1950's, if not earlier. I see no indication of that happening. If you want to call that making excuses, well, you do you.
  14. Oh, what liberal rules would that be? My mother wanted to divorce him, but was told she would lose custody of her kids if she did. Today because of these horrible Liberal laws she would have had an easier time getting sole custody of her kids after a divorce. I would be interested to know what laws you are referring to. In fact conservatives today bemoan the fact so many kids are being raised by single divorced moms. Many of those kids are better off without Good Ole Dad. (spit)

  16. Wokeness is very similar to the radical campus politics of the 60's. The big difference between the two movements is today we have social media, which might give wokeness staying power. I support some aspects of wokeness (despite being a boomer) but oppose some other aspects of it. A great poet, who won the Pulitzer Prize and Nobel Prize, eventually rejected 60's radicalism though he still retained his connections to the left and retained many leftist values.   17. My father was a violent alcoholic who beat my mother. When he tortured me as a 6 month old baby, she called the police and they escorted that a-hole to the outskirts of Reynoldsville and told him to never return. He never returned until about five years later in a casket. Had he been a pothead our lives would have been much better.

  20. One of the great characteristics about the English language is its ability to add new words and add new definitions to old words. It does this not because of any conspiracy, but because that is the nature of the language. I hope you aren't so naive that you don't know that trans-woman will fit into the second definition of woman, or even become part of the first definition. And trans-man will similarly become the second or part of the first definition of man. Language changes, attitudes change, priorities change, expectations change, customs change. When transhumanism takes off the very definition of what a human is will change. Fifty years from now, if by miracles of modern medicine you are still around, you will probably still be railing against things you have no control over, much like the famous meme of Abe Simpson yelling at a cloud. Not good for your blood pressure. I'm older than you and getting upset over things (different things from what upsets you) isn't good for mine either. As for paying for sex changes, with AI and related technologies I think it is feasible for people to have a say in what their taxes will be spent on. People who do not want their taxes to pay for sex change operations can then specify that. Those who do not object or even support taxes paying for them will give their approval. But whether that happens or not, as Ben Franklin said, the only two certainties in life are death and taxes. The reason I brought chromosomes into this discussion is because people argue that if you are born with an XX chromosome or an XY chromosome that should determine how you identify yourself. I find the idea that a submicroscopic section of your cells should determine whether you-as a free adult-should be allowed to modify your body or determine how anyone-at any age-can self-identify is a most inane tyranny.
  21. I do want to add: though I consider sports to be a waste of time, I have no problem with anyone playing or watching them as long as I am not compelled to do so. Freedom, ya know?
  22. BTW: Growing up I as often called a sissy because I had no interest in wasting my time playing sports, which I do consider a waste of time, or hunting. I preferred to spend my time reading books and studying. Well, do you know what the opposite of trans is? Straight and gay men who accept their identity as men are considered cis, which is probably adopted from chemistry. Thus straight guys like me, Fed up, Pennstater, Titan, Illiterate, Gator, etc. are...(drum roll)... Cissies!
  23. While waiting for my ride just inside the Medical Arts building a couple weeks ago, I overheard a young woman talking with someone who I couldn't clearly identify as male or female. The reason came clear as the conversation proceeded and this person told her about (I will "z" pronouns since they are more easily handled than "they" pronouns) zis upcoming sex change operation. I was fine that. Ze was in zis early twenties, so ze was old enough to decide what to do with zis own body, (I'm grinning as I type this. Aren't pronouns fun? Seriously, aren't they?) Ze was not forcing me to do anything. What I care about at that moment was catching the bus and getting home. This person was not preventing me from doing that. So I fail to see how force is even an issue. I also have a great-trans-nephew living outside Cleveland Ohio. I am perfectly fine with him, or zim. In The Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson famously wrote: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. I would argue that my trans-nephew and this person talking to zis friend have the right to live their Life as they wish. They have the Liberty to change their sex and gender if they so chose. And they have the right to Pursue Happiness in whatever body or identity they wish. As for chromosomes and genetics, there are forms are deafness and blindness caused by genetic defects. Sometimes these forms of deafness can be corrected by surgery-or mutilation as some could call it. There are promising techniques being developed to treat blindness too. On a genetic basis these people would still be considered deaf or blind. Some would even argue that Nature or God meant for them to be deaf or blind. I would argue that they have the right of Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness to choose not to be deaf or blind. Furthermore, those who are born with an XY chromosome who want to be XX may have a chromosonal defect that they want either lifestyle or surgery to correct. Same with those born XX who want be be XY. As long as said surgery takes place when they are adults, I'm find with that. If they come to regret that decision for whatever reason, many people regret getting married, becoming parents, taking a high paying job that leaves you depressed and unfulfilled. Join the club. Regret is part of life. It is not up to any agency to protect us from regrets. One person I thought would come to regret his decisions is Erik Sprague, the Lizardman. Apparently he doesn't have any regrets. I'm find with that too. Do I think he has some kind of mental problem? Yeppers. Would I want to do what he did? Absolutely not. Do I think he should be locked up of denied his rights to get his procedures? Absolutely not. As long as he isn't forcing anyone to join him in Lizarddom I am fine with the choices he made. To me this country is not based on making money or getting cheap goods or following traditions.   24. Apparently the posted tweets that were removed contained porn that any reputable social media site would have rejected. I also suspect that some of these photos if not all were photoshops and the videos deep fakes especially since the source of these tweets are from Biden's pals in China. Apparently most of these can be assessed via the Wayback Machine, which is what the guy below and others used. Maybe someone braver than me can use the Wayback machine to verify these allegations.
