Our holly bush did not recover as much as we thought it would from the damage of last winter. We want to give it a chance to make it through this winter a little better. Don't fertilize, do water after the middle of October before the ground freezes, prune out all damaged branches, spray with an anti-dessicant, loosely wrap with burlap, mulch 4-6 inches but not closer than 6 inches to the trunk. The mulch will look like a big donut. Drying out in the winter causes most damage. You can even water them during warm spells if they seem to be drying out.
