Victoria
This week I will menu plan only from what I have in my fridge, freezer, and/or pantry. I will only buy milk, fresh veggies or produce if it is a really good sale. The only way I will buy anything else if it is dirt cheap. I do most of my shopping at Wegman's, WalMart Super Center, Weis, and Hometown Market. I realize you don't have any of those stores in DuBois, but I can still help you figure out what is a good sale, if there are coupons available for the item, and if I have any great meal ideas for things on sale. I also buy a lot of personal items at CVS using the ECB game. You can learn a bit about the ECB game at www.iheartcvs.com I will menu plan tonight since I have a busy weekend with my bridal shower. northsouthgirl
A good tip to get you started is to keep you menu's in a 3 ring binder. Don't toss out old menu's you can rotate them and use them again when you don't have time to sit down & plan the whole week.

Victoria
Sounds like a school cafeteria at home ....what if on wensday, you really dont want what you have planned?....Is it pizza night then?.....I could never be that planned out, but more power to those that are Sometimes it works out like that, but we usually don't cook things we don't like. I have a recipe folder that is old stand bys and family favorites.. we have couple of those, and I ask the boys what they would like to have this coming week. Sometimes we do switch days, but at least I have a plan, it keeps me out of the store buying things we might have at some point, and I don't have to scurry around at dinner time trying to put something together. Its really nice for my SO to come home from work and dinner be ready for him when he gets threw the door. Menu planning isn't for everyone, but this thread is for those who are interested to get useful tips. Its easier to figure out dinner when you have a plan, instead of looking in the fridge hoping something good will appear.

old3dogg
Well some of us would like to avoid that.. I could help you make homemade pizza I'm kidding. I avoid those as well. I dont menu plan but I'm the only one I cook for. I do make a store list when I go shopping though. However. I still cook way to much for one person and what the dog refuses to eat gets thrown out. Victoria
Yes a list is a definite MUST! Have you tried cooking meals and freezing some of the leftovers into individual servings?

northsouthgirl
Yes. I do that a lot. I'm a pasta nut and frozen/un thawed pasta just doesn't work well. You can freeze the sauce for later. Just start backing down the amount of pasta that you have cooked or eat it the next day for lunch.

Only add the amount of sauce and pasta for that night, then freeze the rest of the sauce.

jettavwdrvr
I attached the file that I use for my weekly meal planning. I like it because I can plan my menu and grocery list. When I'm ready to go to the store, I cut off the grocery part and hang the menu on the fridge. Tonight we are having pierogies, peas, salad and homemade multi-grain bread. weeklymenuplanner_9593.pdf
northsouthgirl
This is the link for the website for the menu planner that I use. It also has a place for your grocery list on the side. I don't usually tear mine off. I just fold it in half & then stick it on the frig after my shopping is done. http://theprojectgirl.com/downloads/theprojectgirl-mealplanner2.pdf
