You gotta be careful bringing  in raw manure. You could end up with weeds  you never imagined in your garden before. I speak from experience so good luck!

I know, this manure will be piled up and other compost added to it

  2. Anyone know where I can get manure? Preferably cow, horse or chicken. Looking for a pick up load or two, delivery would be great....I'm no spring chicken anymore:sorry: Also looking for hay/straw. Going to try lasagna gardening this year. It's supposed to be weed free, my old back loves that idea!!

  3. Love the pics of the Daugherty mine, it was not far from the old Beechwoods school and church. Also just over the hill from our farm. My best friend growing up was a Daugherty, we spent a lot of wintery Saturdays delivering coal to DuBois and surrounding area homes, shoveled a lot of coal in those days. The coal from that area down to Westville was very high quality, some of it was chosen to fire the Queen Elizabeth on her maiden voyage.

  4.

Old Roosters become mean, lazy and pretty much useless in old age.

They strut around yelling at all the other chickens trying to tell them how to think, talk and feel.

At this point Old Roosters need butchered.

    ;)

lol.......methinks there's some sarcasm there and maybe a lightly hidden message ;D

  5. No deer or groundhog  damage  I have a fence around the garden plus I have no groundhogs in the area. It does look like something ate it but I don't think so because they started out wilting and progressed to this stage. I figured the fly was just taking a breather and landed there to rest but thought I would take a pic anyway. I was thinking some kind of root fungi or virus. Thought I would get others opinion and see if they have had this happen. Mostly sweet peppers are affected. The other thing I failed to mention is the peppers on some of these plants are mushy as well and wilting.

How high is the fence? Deer can  easily jump over a 5-7 foot high fence. The best deer fence I've seen is 6 foot high, with another section on top angled outward...but it's expensive!!

  6. There are still a lot of perennials, tomatoes, but no peppers although I had seven trays to start out with.  No garden veggies to speak of.  Lots of annual flowers.

Glad I got there early yesterday, I was able to get some of the "Keystone Peppers", which I wanted to try! Also got to meet Petee, a very knowledgeable plant lady!
