  1. my comfort zone is chicken!!! I do leave it when I eat a burger once in awhile. I only drink 1 can of Dr. P. a day ...lol.  :D  :P  :Cool_049:

There ya go, Dr. P won't loosen up your inhibitions even a little bit.

  2. You need to broaden your horizons a little. Get out of your comfort zone now and then, or maybe just drink a little more. That tends to reduce your reluctance to try things.

  3. My food thinking is very basic.

Butter, garlic and onions will make everything taste good.

A noodle in any shape and with any sauce is wonderful.

It is hard to screw up a meatloaf. Even burnt a 1/2 inch deep or cooked until it is dry as shoe leather you can still dress it up enough to be edible.

You reall need to put those thoughts into context though. I've eaten things that others would turn up their noses at and enjoyed them all. Things like rattlesnake, possum, beaver, escargo (?sp)and muskrat come to mind.

  4. I just sent my pics to a friend .... I didn't warn her what they are :D. Was that mean of me or is that what friends are for? To make them pee their pants!!! Lol!!!! If I hear my name being yelled from St Marys I will know she didn't like them...lol!!!

Friends like you keep life interesting.

  5. Using the data collected by this technology may allow the PGC and associated partners to develop better feed plots in an attempt to keep more of the elk in an area where they don't become a nuisance to drivers and residents.  Time will tell.

With the fast emerging drone technology we may soon be able to follow wildlife with drone mounted cameras and have instant access to what they see.  That might be enlightening for those of us who are into wildlife management.

  6. Whether that is a completely true story or just a nice made up one, it really shows that the little things in life matter, and that life's lessons can be learned and spread to others so easily and simply.

  7. A lot of people don't know where Hollywood is, believe it or not!! Others think 15 miles outside of DuBois is a long way out of the way ..lol.

I understand completely.  I am amazed by the people who have a life that rarely exceeds a 20 mile radius of their home and think anything outside of that is on a another planet.

I worked with a man who thought a big trip was to go over the mountain to see a race at CMS.  Then they had a child that needed to go to Pittsburgh for some medical consultations.  Hello wake up call.  That's the mentality of some people who if they were going to Altoona or State College would need at least a week to plan the trip and prepare mentally, and we seem to be surrounded by they.

  8. Can you see them? This was taken from the road.  I uncoverd the bike today, just gotta keep an eye to the sky!!

I see them now.  Must have been concentrating on my driving too much to take it all in.  Although my DW would disagree, she says I gawk around too much, follow too close, drive too fast, etc.

  9. Thanks, I at least know the locations.

Not sure where the Kalgren property is, but that was going to be my next question (about the archaeological dig sites). It seems like the history of Sabula is shadowed by DuBois history in general. I think it'd be interesting to delve deeper into it.

Can't help you with the Kahlgren property location, although I'm sure someone from Sabula will chime in with more info.

As for DuBois' history, it evolved into the social and economic center of the area.  As people becam more mobile they seemed to travel to DuBois for their shopping, drinking and dining activities. That still remains true today, maybe to a somewhat lesser extent, since other areas have grown in their offerings of alternative choices.

It has always been somewhat confusing to me when I look around the area and see the lack of restaurants in many surrounding communities where we have an abundance of them.  Many of which are frequented by people from 30-40 miles away on a regular basis.  I suspect that I-80 has helped that in the more recent years, but that still doesn't explain towns like St Marys, Ridgway and Brockway where there is a distinct local support thinking and restaurants seem to struggle to stay in business.

  10. I think I might have been inquiring about Bundy cemetery. Is it closer to the Sabula area as opposed to the one on Fire Tower Road? I was referring to the one on Fire Tower Road being a little overgrown -- which is sad, in a way. It should be kept up if anyone can get out there routinely.

Also, where was the Indian burial ground in Sabula?

I think that there was a previous post that said something about a archelogical dig site being on a Kahlgren property.  That may be at least one of the sites you are refering to.

  11.

Old Roosters become mean, lazy and pretty much useless in old age.

They strut around yelling at all the other chickens trying to tell them how to think, talk and feel.

At this point Old Roosters need butchered.

    ;)

Geez, I thought you were talking about polititians for a minute there.  I had to go back and look at the thread topic to be sure.

  12. The Winterburn school was located toward the end of winterburn road just off of rt. 255.

As for edgemont park, there are conflicting recolections as to where the park was actualy located due to the flood project that rerouted the sandy lick. some say toward adrian furnace, some say behind jackson china, and some claim it is where bolbey and cole tie plant is currently. Can anyone remembers just where the park was? would love to know for sure and settle the dispute

I can't confirm or deny what you are hearing re: Edgemont location, but can say that my earliest memories from about '56-'57 are that the area where the tie plant sits was previously a coal proccessing area.  Don't know if it was a storage yord, loading facility, proccessing plant or exactly what.

  13. Has anyone ever visited Beulah Land, the old cemetary in Reynoldsville?  Seems to be the place for orbs and other strange sightings.

Yes I have.  There are actually some of my family and friends buried there fairly recently for that cemetary.

I have never seen any strange sightings but maybe I am too focused when visiting.

  14. Hipower,

We do not have any plans to sell lots for burials for several reasons.  First, Pa cemetery laws require that a substantial amount of money be in escrow of the Cemetery Company for perpetual so cemeteries do not get run down, as has happened so many times in the past. Secondly, the Rumbarger Cemetery Preservation Society was established to " Preserve, Protect, and maintain " Rumbarger cemetery, not to act as an active burial site. Finally, and perhaps most important and interesting . . . without knowing exactly where people might be buried ( horrible record keeping, graves moved, etc. ) we do not want to sell someone a lot and when their time comes and we dig them a grave find it is already occupied by someone . . .  or several someones ! Yes, rumors and urban myths from the past suggest that some previous owners of the Cemetery, manyyy years ago, might have sold the same lots to different people!.

Interesting fact though. If a person already owns a lot they are permitted to be buried there. So if you are driving by someday and see an excavator there, it'

is a possibility that a funeral is taking place !

hope that answers your question . . .

Yes it did.  Thanks.  My apologies for not responding sooner, unfortunately I got sidetracked by more pressing things.
