  1. I've written a book titled "History of the Jewish Community of DuBois, Pennsylvania:  A Tribute to the DuBois Ministerium."

This book is for the people of DuBois, Pennsylvania; past, present and future.  It is a compilation of DuBois' founding history, the story of interfaith cooperation and biographies of Jewish individuals and families who made contributions to the tapestry of a once thriving DuBois community. The roots of interfaith cooperation run deep in DuBois, and many Christian families have a proud Jewish heritage. Through the years the people of DuBois have shown an interest in learning about and connecting to the historic roots of Judaism. This is a story of fellowship and teamwork. It is a tribute to all of the people of DuBois and to the continuing legacy of the DuBois Ministerium.

If you would like me to send you a PDF version of the book please email me at richlevine00@hotmail.com.

  2. GODUBOIS COMMUNITY

Many generations of former and current residents have related adventures, stories and local traditions about the Highland Street Tunnel, and voiced support of a Walkway connecting DuBois and Sandy through the Highland Street Tunnel by posting home made videos and photos on this GoDuBois thread.

A survey is now being planned by the DuBois-Sandy Recreation Subcommittee seeking recreational ideas from DuBois-Sandy residents on future unplanned projects.

Here is a proposal for the consideration of the DuBois-Sandy Recreation Subcommittee titled:

“Connecting DuBois and Sandy Township: Building a Walkway from a West Sandy Trailhead near Triangle Springs through the Highland Street Tunnel to Shaffer Road and the DuBois Mall.”

It is hoped that DuBois-Sandy residents and organizations will consider the merits of this proposal for discussion and inclusion in the upcoming survey.

  3. There is now a proposal before the North Central PA Planning Commission to reopen the rail line from Du Bois to Curwensville. This would serve as a wonderful rail trail along historic Anderson Creek and bring substantial tourism and investment to Clearfield County.

The Du Bois-Sandy Greenway could serve as an I-80 "PA Wilds" traihead to Curwensville and Clearfield, north to Brockway, Brookville and Ridgway, and eventually east to Penfield and Elk Country.

I'm sure there will be local interest and support for such a study. Hopefully, the Corman Railroad Company will quickly clear all right of way legal issues to reclaim theis historic transportation corridor.  For those you interested in local history, the lower portion of the trail runs along the Great Shamokin Path to the Susquehanna River.

The safety of bikers and hikers is the prime concern. The first minute of this video from a popular rail trial near Jim Thorp shows how it is done.

Commercial rail service and bicycle tourism are highly compatible, and together they would bring sustainable economic investment and Clearfield County.

  4. TRAIL TOWN BROCKWAY

The Trail Town Brockway committee meets tonight at the Mengle Library conference room at 6:30. All are welcome, especially anyone who like to serve on a committee or volunteers to improve the Brockway-Allens Mills trail are welcome.

One goal of the plan is to connect Falls Creek to Brockway using the Wolf Run Trail.

Learn about the "Trail Town Model" for recreation and economic development.

  5. Rumbarger Cemetery and Electric Park

Thank you Borninabarn.  I also have heard about the Electric Park and would like to learn more about it.  The Rumbarger Cemetery area was very active at this time and a major trolley station cross town to the East Side.  The trolley system in Du Bois must have been a sight to behold.   Any photos out there of Electric Park?

  6. TRI-COUNTY RAILS TO TRAILS

Tri-County Rails to Trails invites everyone to a public annual meeting at the Brockwayville Depot, Thursday, January 26 at 7pm. You will receive an update on the Brockway Trail Town project and trail connector to unite the three trails. The meeting is informal. Speakers from North Central Regional Planning and Development Council and PA Great Outdoors tourist bureau will be there.

  7. Tom Mix in Du Bois

Here's a newly acquired photo from the M.I. McCreight Collection showing Tom Mix's Mercedes in front of Hotel Du Bois.

No doubt M.I. was there.  He wouldn't miss it.

Mix was visiting friends, and in Du Bois to make a speech to the Rotary Club.

Any godubois folks know the date of Mix's visit?
