pstan reacted to lavender in Garden questions...
You can still start squash, cucumbers and things like that. You can also plant those seeds outdoors at the end of May. You might start tomatoes now and get them big enough to put out by the first or second week of June. They grow fast when the soil is warm and I've seen people around here put gardens in all through June and still get produce. It is probably too late for peppers and eggplant that take a long time to grow and cauliflower, cabbage etc. that have to go out early.
It is probably too late to order seeds. You can find organic seeds around here if that is what you want.
Heirlooms are sometimes disappointing if they are not adapted to the area. It will take a bit of time to see what can be grown. You didn't mention the age of your son but if he is young he might find that things like beans and lettuce more rewarding than trying to grow things that are a bit trickier.
I never think that this has to be said but a surprising number of people don't know it. You can't just grow seeds indoors without using the proper technique. You need sterile soil or medium to prevent disease that will kill your seedlings. You need lots of light or they will get tall and weak.
This chart looks about right for our area:

Mr Tri-pod. Not a very good pic because I took a pic with my cell phone off of my camera. Hubby says easily 450!! LC was getting mad while looking out the window, I got up to get a drink, looked out the window and hollered at my hubby to not let the dog out!!! The bear was on our porch, deck and the yard!!! Good think I brought my feeders in again!!

pstan reacted to lavender in Bleeding Heart Vine
This vine has gone up into the supporting structure of the watering system in the greenhouse. Escaping seems to have made it very happy as it never has bloomed like this before. It is a bleeding heart vine or Clerodendrum. And yes, that is about 2 feet of snow outside. Wish I were a better photographer as it is really spectacular this year.
There are also several orchids, a hearty fuchsia and a couple of lipstick plants blooming. They know it is spring!

OR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Release #012-15
FEEDING OF ELK ILLEGAL, POTENTIALLY DEADLY

Bon.... It seems appropriate that since Blue is now a movie star, that he would be hanging out in Hollywood. Makes sense to me...

Blue, Spike, No Name were eating the apple tree across the road from me. Blue started to chase the small bulls out onto the hwy, so I went out to get my mail. They went down into the flats.

I agree "Fred" is really missed....The last few times I went up to Benezette I saw another bull that is hanging around town and quickly gaining popularity...
He is the collared bull 2D... Since then the PGC has removed his yellow collar... I was in the woods up at the Winslow Hill Viewing Area and noticed a bull
bedded in the field. I laid my camera bag down on the ground and moved about 20 feet. Suddenly I heard a noise behind me and turned around to see 2D
checking out my camera bag...

Bon... I can assure you that "Blue" will make the cut because before Wednesday morning the plan was for the PGC to tranquilize and radio collar an elk.
As it turned out, the PGC was notified about "Blue" being in distress in Scattertown and decided to permit the filming crew document the rescue and collaring.
Did you ever in your wildest dreams think that you would make "Blue" a movie star?

Bon... The production company filmed for 6 hours and that will need to be edited down to fit their one hour program format
and this will take some time I will keep you posted when their programming schedule is announced.
