Sanibel reacted to Bon in Meet my granddaughter Faith Marie
She has started PT & OT in DuBois, plus Brandi will be learning American Sign Language. Faith will be having surgery to have a feeding tube placed in her abdomen within the next month. With her sensory issues, she isn’t consuming enough calories by eating or drinking.
Maybe I just might have something to share on Friday.....not positive!! 😁😉❤️

2-Year-Old Defies The Odds, Beats Cancer And Rings The Bell On Her Birthday
Doctors didn't believe Faith would make it to her first birthday but two years later, she's cancer-free.January 21, 2021 at 3:28 am Filed Under:cancer, Full Trisomy 18, Local TV, Pittsburgh News, UPMC Children's Hospital, Wilms Tumor By: KDKA-TV News Staff
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It was a little over two years ago when Faith was born and doctors diagnosed her with Full Trisomy 18.
Full Trisomy 18 is a condition that causes a baby’s organs to develop in an abnormal way due to having an extra chromosome in some or all of their body’s cells.
When that diagnosis was handed down, she was given at best, a 10% chance of survival.
The odds said she would not see her first birthday.
Faith defied those odds and made it to January 2020.
Unfortunately, months later in August, Faith and her family were handed more bad news.
She was then diagnosed with cancer when an abdominal ultrasound revealed a 2-inch tumor on her left kidney and lesions on both kidneys if left untreated.
Thanks to the faith of the family and the help of Dr. Julia Meade at UPMC Children’s Hospital, five treatments later, Faith the tumor had disappeared.
Even after those treatments, Faith’s battle was not over.
She went through dehydration, a UTI that turned septic, and other maladies, but again, Faith overcame.
It was January 15, 2021, that Faith had defied the odds one last time.
At 2-years-old, she completed her final chemotherapy treatment and rang the bell at UPMC Children’s.
“Not only did Faith defy the odds once again by turning 2-years-old, but she also proved that there is power in prayer by completing her final chemo treatment in the war against Wilms Tumor,” Faith’s mother Brandi wrote in a Facebook post.
You can watch the full video of Faith and her family ringing the bell on UPMC Children’s Hospital Of Pittsburgh’s Facebook page. https://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2021/01/21/faith-and-family-defy-odds-beat-cancer/

We had FB Christmas Eve with them. It was great till Brandi discovered her basement was flooded. Her & Deryk were up every 2 hours doing something with the sump pump. Christmas morning they had at least 6” of water & spent the day getting stuff off the floor, if they could. My brother came down to help with the furnace. Saturday Deryk went to Lowe’s & got a good sump pump. Sunday was Christmas with Deryk’s family. Monday they got a dumpster & are throwing away anything that got wet. Brandi’s House insurance told her with Faith’s condition, cancer, anything wet must go. I went to watch Faith this afternoon so Brandi could clean more. They both got the floors done tonight. Now waiting on appliance est.

Well folks we did well through our first night home.
She had an average of 98% oxygen level.
No problems
Ate good before bed, .....no bottles though....so we are putting water in her food for now till we figure out how to get her drinking.
She woke up happy and smiling and kicking her legs in bed.
Today the home nurse is coming to watch us give her first dose of medicine at home. She is in an antibiotic that’s given through her port. She’ll be on this until the 19th.
This Friday she is to still do her MRI to check on the size of the tumor and receive her one chemo. It’s the easy chemo not the double dose.
We will be discussing a plan of action with Dr. Meade to possibly help prevent this from happening again. She may need iv fluids for a couple days after receiving her chemo treatments.
If Dr. Meade doesn’t think that she needs to get fluids after her chemo treatments then We are also considering staying down there in a hotel for a couple days after she gets the double chemo treatments so we can take her over to the ED for fluids if she gets lethargic and doesn’t want to eat or drink.
We are hoping this doesn’t happen again but we are also trying to prepare a plan if it does as well as preparing a plan to help prevent this from happening again.

Updated!!
We finally got some answers as to why Faith is so sick....she has a bad urinary tract infection. Any of you who have had a uti know how sick it can make you.
Normally baby girls do get urinary tract infections simply because they poo in their diaper and some of the poo does get into the vagina. And the poo can get into there quickly and cause issues quickly. Normally though they can fight them off without a problem. But since Faith is on chemo she wasn’t able to fight it off and the infection was able to spread quickly.
They are changing her antibiotics to better wage war on the UTI (urinary tract infection) .
She will be here for several days,
She needs to be back to her self in order to come home.
She needs to be able to eat and drink and keep it down.
She needs to be clear of the infection and fever free.
Not a viral infection
It is a bacterial infection
The dactinomycin is the chemo drug she gets every third week and that’s what weakened her immune system
