Georgie_girl
Ignorant kids attacked my crab apple tree with a hatchet, and peeled a few places down to the white part. Any way I can help it heal faster? Thanks.
Petee
Just keep the area open so air can get to it. A healthy tree will heal itself in time if the damage isn't too bad. Treatments don't help and they can actually make the damage worse.
lavender
The tree won't heal but it will form a callus, eventually. The callus seals off the damaged area so it won't rot. If the bark is ragged trim it off but don't remove any live bark if you can help it. The callus will form more quickly if the tree is in active growth so give it some fertilizer and keep it watered if the weather turns dry. About all you can do is keep the tree healthy.
