  1. Speaking of planting here is something I plan on trying this year also.  Space is alwasy limited and thought I would try this and hopefull I get my raised garden planters done here in a few weeks. I plan on making two 4x8  raised garden structures about three feet off the ground. I just have to add the legs and paint the wood with non voc environmentally safe paint not that it will be touching the soil or the plants but just in case to help preserve the wood. I will post pics of them when they are done.

  2. I thought it was interesting and might be fun to try also Petee that and I am sure most people will not send in a soil sample for some reason or another. Thats why I posted it not that they will remeber this but I will repost it in the spring. It will at least get them a little info and they can add whatever they feel they need and hopefully it will help them out.

I have sent soil samples in and it fhas been good. I have never added anything to my soil except mushroom compost every year but this is expensive for large gardens but I mostly plant just because I enjoy it and probably spend more on it than I get back but if I am going to spend money better on something I enjoy rather than on booze and gambling not that there is anything wrong in either of those in moderation. The compost seems to work well as I usually have a good garden.

I would encourage people to use the resources of Penn State especially if they are having problems with their plants that may be diseased. You can send in your plants to them also and they will help you identify the problem. I believe this is free a free service and they will give you the envelopes to send it in. I believe so Petee would know for sure.

  3. I dug up some of my pepper plants before the frost and brought them inside. I am hoping they make it so I can replant them. I just wanted to see how well they would do during the winter and if they would proivide peppers during this time or even after I replanted them. Guess I was bored that day.  My super chiles still have peppers on them and I have some bell peppers that are starting to get bigger.

Has anyone else ever tried this and what were your results?

  4. It most likely is a dwarf tree. it is a healthy tree just doesn't produce any apples. If I had some space I would like to plant several more but really dont have the room yet. Although I have been looking at small farmettes and homes with some acreage. If I can find a nice place especially if it has a pond I will be moving.

  5. There can be lots of reasons for a tree not producing apples.  Any idea what kind of an apple?  Maybe it needs a pollinator the frost gets it.

Not sure what kind it is. The neighbors have a nice tree and there is one in the lot next to them and they both produce apples. They are good size trees also. Mine is still rather small. I was going to see if the neighbors would let me get a few of their apples since they dont use them and I came home one  day and someone had picked them all already LOL

  6. Hey Bon if it gets lonely it can come visit the hundred thousand or so spiders I have at work. Took theses pics a couple weeks ago at work when someone didn't believe me about all the spiders there.

BTW what kind of camera did you use. I have a nice camera but it never takes close up pics it keeps refocusing or is quite blurry. I tried getting close ups of these spiders especiallty where there were a a half dozen or so bunched up but it would not take them without getting blurry of course it could be the operator. I must need to put it on a certain setting. Gues I should read the instructions sometime.

  7. Lucky you!

The deer have been been eating the tops of the potatoes we had planted but my wife started spraying them with some sort of blood based deer repellent and they have left them alone. They are busy eating the apples on the ground across the street. They are there everyday. The rest of the garden is fenced off and momma deer hasnt jumped it although anything that creps out through the wire they nibble off and so far no bugs or blight this year but the season is not done yet. I am just hoping the tomatoes start to ripen before they die off. The plants are starting to  but there are lots of tomatoes Hopefully they will start to turn soon.

  8. Lol!!! Why not??? Little to high for you??

not the height just the climb. It would take 30 to 45 minutes to get up there if not more and I dont want to find out which one. There is no elevator LOL Walking up to the roof would be a good work out but I would rather hop the elevator up although I have walked up it many times. .

  9. Even choked up an old burly guy like me.

WOW! Please take a minute to read this adorable story! --->

Our 14-year-old dog Abbey died last month. The day after she passed away my 4-year-old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so, and she dictated these words:

    Dear God,

Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.
I hope you will play with her. She likes to swim and play with balls. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.

    Love, Meredith

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, 'To Meredith' in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies.' Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

    Dear Meredith,

Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help and I recognized her right away.

Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I'm easy to find. I am wherever there is love.

    Love, God
