Today we picked our second planting of yellow wax beans.  They survived the frost and I got 15 pints of beans done.  They were planted mid-August. 

The tops of the plants were frostbit but the beans being underneath, were protected.  To be honest, we were surprised there were so many because he had picked some last week.

I ran onto this information today and thought I would post it here in case anyone is researching this family.  It is from a marriage license application in Philadelphia, dated 22 March 1915.

Adah L. Winter, of Tarrytown Heights, New York,  was born 1 Nov. 1883 in Clearfield Co., Pa.  Her parents were William and Mary Korb Rider, both born in Clearfield Co., Pa.  Her first husband (Winter) died at her place of residence on 9 Jan. 1912. 

The gentleman on the application is William H. Thomas, of the same city, was born 21 Oct. 1887, son of George and Clara Rother Thomas. I'm sorry, I didn't note his place of birth.  His first wife died 28 Dec. 1911.  

Our beets didn't do well this year.  I only got 15 pints.  We usually do around 50 pints and have beets to give away. The garden is all cleaned up except for 2nd crop of yellow wax beans.  If decent weather holds up should have some to can by the end of next week.  We'll have potatoes to last till spring, planted 50 lb.  Had really nice cantaloupe, juicy and sweet.  

Nothing wrong with those pictures, that's how I see at that hour of the morning.  

He wasn't about to loose that meal!  

So far I've done 35 pints of yellow wax beans and we've cut and vacuum sealed and froze 20 dozen ears of corn.  A lot of our stuffing peppers have soft spots on them and we had to toss them, but there's still some looking good for stuffing.  Cantaloupe are doing well. Potatoes like those above. 

Our garden is doing great since the rain slacked off.  We removed all the yellowed leaves from the tomatoes and also sprayed with fungicide (just in case.)  Lots of nice big green tomatoes now.  Yesterday I canned my first 15 pints of yellow wax beans.  Corn will be ready for freezing soon and peppers for stuffin'.  Been eating cabbage, new red potatoes and cukes.  Cantaloupe are doing real well.

LOL, that's just what I was going to suggest.  It works well.  

These are the buildings to the left of the house.

But that looks like water (a small stream, possibly flooded because it spills out onto the street and sidewalk) running between the two houses. The driveway that comes around the back of the left house must continue on the other side of the hedge or flower row along there.  

Looking closely at the original photo I would agree with previous poster who said it looks like a stream running between the two houses.  It looks to have overflowed at the intersection.  Must have been some of this "partly cloudy" that's been falling the last week or so.  

Does anyone have an original one of these to look at houses along the stream?

Yes!  There is a sign in front of the house to the left.  It appears to have a cross similar to the Red Cross, but it's not a solid cross, on it.  

The building on the right is also a house, looks to be stone or brick with a stone porch.  Ladies on the upper balcony.

That's really an interesting photo.  Almost looks like perhaps a horse sale going on. Note all the ladies closest to the camera and the men are lined up facing each other with a fairly wide path between.  Looks like a gentleman at a table toward the right of the line, a line up of horses.  

I found this, looks like the house may be the center of the structure. But it says it's the Poor House, Elk County, St. Mary's Pa.

I was thinking that too.  I believe that Peonies are one flower that depends on ants for blooming. 

If you have a dry area, or even put in a dried plastic bottle on it's side, put some corn meal.  It works the same as the powdered sugar mix mentioned above but is perfectly safe for pets and kids.

I am interested in finding out if anyone has knowledge of who might have access to a records book for St. Catherine's Cemetery in DuBois.   Specifically Collins and Carroll possibly in unmarked graves almost straight up from Simmons St. 

I ran across one of my note papers last night.  Ancestor Michael Carroll obit. in Falls Creek Times, Feb. 28, 1908 states he had been a resident of FC "since there has been a town by that name."  Mrs. Patrick Collins of Taylor Ave. is a sister.  Funeral by Father McGivney, interment in the Catholic cemetery at DuBois.  This would be St. Catherine's Cemetery, or is there another Catholic cemetery in DuBois?

Thank you.  Harry Schuyler Emery was a brother of my great-grandfather who, with his father, managed hotels in Brookville.  

Does anyone know the location of The Hotel Emery, Harry S. Emery, proprietor that was located in Falls Creek ca. 1900 - 1910 (+/-).   Is the building still standing?
