Not picking on Sweden, but we need to keep in mind that the population of Sweden is just shy of 10 million. Nearly 3 million less than the state of PA. Swedish citizens also enjoy a tax rate of 70%. While we applaud their environmental leadership in this case we also need to understand their problems in handling waste is much smaller than ours and they pay dearly for the way they do things.

Great discussion, no arguments, just a trading of ideas. And now we know a lot of the rest of the story!

A 20-year-old Georgia woman said her 7-year-old brother is her “real-life angel” after he jumped into action when she had a seizure in the pool. Morgan Smith told WJAX that she was on the bottom step and started seeing black spots before she fell backward. Aiden McCullough said he saw his sister fall backward, and immediately ran to her side. “I was thinking like, ‘Oh my god. Oh my God. She’s going to die,” he told WJAX. McCullough grabbed his sister by the hair and kept her face out of the water while screaming for help. Smith said that without her brother, she would’ve died. “I know that there are real-life angels because I’m lucky enough to call him mine,” she told WJAX. “I have an everyday superhero in my life.” https://www.foxnews.com/health/georgia-boy-7-saves-sister-had-seizure-in-pool

Wrong question! Why not ask instead "how would we get our state government to help create a market for things made from recycled materials?" Then private enterprise could profitably take over recycling instead of taxing you for doing it.

PA Lawmakers Move To Block Plastic Bag Bans

It's a good start, and things will have to move that direction. Even in my position there just seems to be something inherently wrong with building mountains out of trash. Its just the sheer volumes that are incomprehensible. The biggest incinerator in that list is 3000 tons/day. That's a mid-size landfill in a mid-level market. A landfill in Phoenix could do over 20K tons/day. If I were in high school right now I would be looking at a career in chemical or environmental engineering

At this time it's just not economically feasible. I think at some point in the future this will have to be the solution, we will get to the point that landfills just won't be permitted any more. Some countries already use incinerators to some extent, but it's incredibly expensive, and the US produces so much volume. If there's one thing true about any kind of waste, there's no solution if it isn't profitable, and as of now there's no profitable way to burn trash

PA Lawmakers Move To Block Plastic Bag Bans

I was watching Dope on Netflix this weekend, and the cameras found a staging point on the south side of the Rio Grande where mules settling in to make a nighttime run across the border had left drink bottles, food wrappers, and *gasp* PLASTIC BAGS Build the wall!!!

The father suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was airlifted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center where his exact condition was unknown. The friend was taken to Houston Northwest Medical Center where he was said to be in stable condition. Minchew said that the child’s mother was inside the apartment with a one-month-old baby when she heard a loud noise which she “thought were fireworks” going off. When she went downstairs to inspect, she was “accosted” by one of the suspects who asked her for money at gunpoint. She proceeded to tell the gunman she had no money at which point police say they are unclear on what took place after. The two suspects fled and are still at large. Authorities have described them as two black males, age between 25 and 35. One was wearing a black hoodie and the other a red one. https://www.foxnews.com/us/texas-toddler-2-shot-and-killed-during-home-invasion-2-others-wounded-police

Such a sad thing for the family. I am shocked at the description of the subjects. I would have thought White Amish teenagers. This sentence has me wondering also. She proceeded to tell the gunman she had no money at which point police say they are unclear on what took place after. The two suspects fled and are still at large. My guess is they raped the poor woman.

PA Lawmakers Move To Block Plastic Bag Bans

In my attempt to bait Steve with a political post I mentioned watching Dope on Netflix this weekend. That was true, and one episode was filmed in Sweden. They showed drug enforcement officers throwing cocaine into the trash incinerators. Another interesting fact from that show was that drug dealers had to actually compete for customers. Drugs were so plentiful with such a small population that there were more dealers than customers. You can't trust any any country where cocaine is considered a buyer's market
