Petee
I don't think there's going to be enough daylight and heat to make Cannas bloom much more this year, so it might be an interesting experiment to let it develop the seeds and see what they do next spring. lavender
So, you are saying I should clip the stem off right below the pods. Just like dead heading flowers. Yes, plants use a lot of energy setting seed. If you don't want the seed there isn't much point allowing them to expend the energy. We deadhead to encourage more bloom but also to allow the plant to save its energy to produce better roots, tubers and bulbs.
Petee
I love the fun of planting seeds indoors in the spring and watching them grow, so Canna seeds could be great! If you have viable seed, you could get more of the parent plant or something completely new. http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/seed/msg092205599569.html http://boards.hgtv.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/7184011632/m/3731072013
Petee
Those Cannas are $1 each at Lowes today, so I picked up 5 to winter over for the Franklin Street planting bed.
