I had taken them a week before in the garden. seems butterflies like mushroom compost. I had around 15 in the garden all together when I walked up they scattered and then settled down into groups of 2 to 4. wish I could have gotten a pic of them all together. lavender Posted June 26, 2013 Share Posted June 26, 2013 The behaviour is called "puddling". They are seaching out nutrients and salts that they can't get from nectar.
