My sentiments exactly.

Every time. I feel guilty every time.
And I'm old, so I've put quite a few down.
I wrestle with the decision every time, too. I take it very seriously. I hate to see them suffer, but I always wonder what gives me the right to decide that their life is so miserable that it should end.
 
I'm sure there's some guy living in the Hamptons who would look at my life and say it wasn't worth living.
 
But I love my pets, and am a responsible pet owner, and when it's time, I do it, and just deal with the guilt along with the grief. It's hard.
But there is always another animal with a sad story just waiting for a chance at a good home, if your house is empty, head on out to the pound and save one.
 
So don't second guess it. You loved your cat, your cat knew it. You did what you knew was best.
Grief comes in many ways.

Our pets expect us to do our best for them. It is not fair to them to allow them to needlessly suffer. We are doing our duty and showing our love when we help them exit this life. It is hard. I'm sorry and feel your pain.

Sorry to hear about your mother in laws and your loss of a beloved member of your family. Animals do melt your heart and for those of us who understand we feel your pain.  I must say i did get choked up reading your posts. I thought back to several of my own dogs that I lost and have been dreading the day when one or more of my three I have now passes. I will at least know that they will not be alone as the other dogs will be there when we are not.
 
My last dog passed away by himself. We were at work and came home to find him. I had him to the vet just three days prior but there was no indication he was going to pass that soon or at all. we knew the leg was cancerous and thought he was going to have to have it amputated but it was not to be. He was lying by the front door waiting for us to come home. I still tear up knowing he died alone and wishing I had been with him in his final moments.

He sounds like a hunter who believes he should be praised for killing the last (blank) in the world. How many species have vanished because of people with his attitude? I agree with you GC.

Why shoot him? Capturing a live creature would have been more valuable...if he is real.

I appreciate all the input very much. The reason I am unsure is because some days she is still the way she has been for years. Running around the house and playing with my kids. They are 8 and 2 and I have no idea how to explain this to them.
 
But the other days she is usually hiding out under the covers in my bed, not coming out for hours. The accidents have only been a few times a week, usually when she is asleep. She is an Akita, so they shed like crazy in spring and fall. She is shedding but it's not growing back. So she has these bald patches behind her ears and on her back and butt.
 
I am just afraid of making a decision prematurely. She still seems to have good, happy days. So we are going to head to the vet and see what they say. Maybe there are some meds that can make her bad days more comfortable and let her enjoy the holidays with her family?

For some reason the peppers realy took off this year. I have tons. here is one of them. Don't mind the floor I am remodeling and ripping up the carpets and some of the sub floor to make it flat and putting down bamboo.

The blurry one is of the heron in flight I couldn't keep up with the camera and focus. Top left you can make out out his feet and tail. The fawn was in the neighbors yard eating apples.

My garden is doing very well this year as far as plants growing and not dying off. I haven't lost a single plant this year which is very unusual. My tomato plants are growing great the only problem is they hardly have any tomato's on them. I have some plants that are taller than me growing and they seem to be cherry tomato's. Problem is I did not buy any cherry tomato's. I believe the place I bought them from mislabeled them.

Now my pepper plants are doing excellent. I have lots of peppers already but no darn tomato's to make sauce. Looks like we might have to buy tomato's again this year. I posted a few pics of them. I seem to like the camera I bought my wife and am constantly using it. I may have to buy me one so she can use hers.

I posted some pics on the storm a few minutes ago and found these pics on the disk. I had taken them a week before in the garden. seems butterflies like mushroom compost. I had around 15 in the garden all together when I walked up they scattered and then settled down into groups of 2 to 4. wish I could have gotten a pic of them all together.

I am betting the same guy who called 911 emailed or had someone email Big foot society.

A bit fuzzy. Now there is a laugh. Seems whenever there is anything about Bigfoot everything is a bit fuzzy such as pictures, video cameras. I have bought disposable cameras that take better pictures than I have seen. There was a time when I thought there might actually be a Bigfoot etc. As the years go by and the hoax people keep showing up and producing and claiming lies my beliefs have changed. Especially after watching Bobo on tv. He should be on the comedy channel LOL
