  2. Making this today. It was a favorite that my Aunt made and we all looked forward to. We call it Chili Sauce but Hot pepper relish would fit also. Makes the house smell good too. 4 stalks celery 10 large sweet peppers 18 hot peppers 6 large onions 5 qts peeled tomatos Put Above thru grinder/food processer 5 tbs salt 1 1/2 cup sugar 2tsp cinnamon 1tsp nutmeg 2tbsp Pickling Spice (put in cheesecloth) 3 1/4 cup white vinegar Combine all and boil till thick put in sterilized jars and seal.
  3. Dodge,,mine looked nice like that too,but was rotten inside.
  4. I planted my Tomatos in an area that was not planted in the past hoping to prevent any carryover of Blight,Also bought from a local grower and not chain store plants. From what I now understand is that the Blight can be transfered from garden to garden by birds, rabbits, or even walking into someone elses garden that is infected.

  22. CAMP BREAD 1 cup flour 1/2 cup water fat (for frying) (1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder)* (1/2 teaspoon salt)* Mix water, flour, baking powder and salt together. Stir and kneed to form a dough free from lumps. Turn onto a lightly floured board and pat into a rough square about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into 2 inch squares. Melt fat (shortening, bacon fat, beef tallow, etc.) in a heavy skillet or Dutch oven. Be sure to use enough fat to give the bottom of the skillet a good coating. When a drop of water sizzles in the pan, place the dough squares into the fat. Cook the squares at a medium heat until lightly browned. Then turn over and cook the other side. Serve at once.
