  1. Could it be St. Johns-wort?
  2. Looks like a female Eastern Towhee. The male sings a song that sounds like "drink your tea".
  3. There are quite a few in the woods along the Clarion River - from Portland Mills to Irwin Run.
  4. It's a Starflower - in the Primrose family.
  5. I'm so sorry for your loss. The tears will come for a long time - it really is like losing a family member. Hold on to those great memories.
  6. How about Dutchman's Pipe (Aristolochia durior)? It's a perennial that is excellent for screening and it's a rapid grower.
  7. Snellma - your garden looks great! Nice pictures too
  8. I lost my cat yesterday. Her name was Pheobe and she was almost 15. It's just been her and I for so long - I'm heart broken over her passing. It's amazing how these little creatures can make our lives so much better. I miss her already.
  9. Rabbits love holly - I know it well from experience. I had 4 holly bushes that did not come back.
  10. I really enjoyed your pics. Thanks for sharing!
  11. You may be hearing a Veery or another bird in the Thrush family. If it sounds like it has a
  12. Oh my goodness!!! It's beautiful!! Is that normal or is it just VERY happy?
  13. It is fun - but I still like the orange the best. Maybe because I transplanted it from the wild. Have you ever started any from seed? Any success? I'd like to give it a try but I don't have a greenhouse.
  14. I tried a tropical variety a few years ago and it was beautiful. Right now I have a White Butterfly Weed blooming - it's in it's second year. It's not as striking as the orange variety and it doesn't seem to attract butterflies like the orange does.
  15. As the name indicates - butterflies love them. If you like to take pictures - keep an eye on them and you may be able to see tiny little Monarch caterpillars. It's a great host plant.
  16. The one in my picture is actually closer to blue - it's the Blue Stocking variety. I agree about the Hummingbird Moth being the cutest - though, the Bumble Bee Moth (also known as the Snowberry Clearwing) places a close second.
  17. This is what my purple monarda looks like with the moths that love it.
  18. When I first started gardening and planting perrenials, my Grandmother told me: The first year they sleep; The second year they creep; and The third year they leap. I love it when they "leap"!
  19. Robins are probably at your feeders to eat the insects around the fallen seed. You can feed them soaked raisins if you want to give them a treat. Just soak them in a bowl of water over night, drain them and then set them out. Catbirds, Orioles and Blue Jays will eat them too.
  20. I like the smell of it. I have four different colors. You can use the dried leaves to make tea - oswego tea. It can be used in cooking - it kinda tastes like oregano. Hummingbird moths and Bumble Bee moths love it.
  21. Yep. Forget who I am? We have the Eagle guy in common
  22. I love your greenhouse! I'm going to bring my Mom out sometime to see it too - she's thinking of getting one.
  23. This plant is also known as a Loosestrife however it's not a Lythrum. Either way - it's on the Noxious Weed list for PA.
