  1. Thank you so much for this!! I have a negative of my Grandfather and Dad from about 1937 (plus a bunch of others) that I'm going to try this on.
  2. There's got to be more to the haunted life than the tunnels in Sabula (I'm not sure where, though.)
  3. I think we have a new game show in the works...What's! That! BUG BITE!!!
  4. Best wishes with your furbaby, Bon I'm glad you acted quickly.
  5. How far back in time are we allowed to go?
  6. The seats in the Harris Theater, prior to demolition, were purchased by the Reitz Theater. They were stripped of their red vinyl covers and reupholstered, and now grace the auditorium. (Given the seats' not-so-illustrious history in the final days of the Harris theater, one can only hope they were cleansed with fire.)
  7. Wait, is this Penfield PA, or Penfield, IL?
  8. I think it's a train, too. I was a teen when that storm hit. Both early '78 and then again that December, on Christmas Eve.
  9. I was thinking of the Penfield exit on 80...but in looking at the picture, this doesn't look very interstatey anyway, does it?
  10. It looks like a line of trucks...it can't be the interstate, can it?
  11. So was my ex-wife. That's why I got divorced.
  12. Several years ago, a bat got in my apartment and was flying in circles around the mid-floor chimney in my finished attic. Realizing it didn't want to be there anymore than I wanted it, I simply opened a window, humanely cornered the bat with a tupperware bowl, and set it free. It happily flew away. I don't know why people freak out so much with these things.
  13. We can see where this is going. Pennsylvania Bigfoot Day will no doubt rival Groundhog Day in scope. Any excuse to take off work and get smashed.
  14. The DuBois Public Library does indeed have two copies: one that circulates and one that does not.
  15. I wonder how a Target and an Olive Garden would go over in Sabula?
  16. Thanks, I at least know the locations. Not sure where the Kalgren property is, but that was going to be my next question (about the archaeological dig sites). It seems like the history of Sabula is shadowed by DuBois history in general. I think it'd be interesting to delve deeper into it.
  17. Thank you...so the Bish Cemetery is the small overgrown one, and the Boone Mountain one is obviously the other one, right?
  18. I think I might have been inquiring about Bundy cemetery. Is it closer to the Sabula area as opposed to the one on Fire Tower Road? I was referring to the one on Fire Tower Road being a little overgrown -- which is sad, in a way. It should be kept up if anyone can get out there routinely. Also, where was the Indian burial ground in Sabula?
  19. With all due respect to the deceased, that cemetery looks like something out of Stephen King's "Creepshow". I think I'll stick to the more modern ones
  20. So where is Boone Mountain Cemetery and other points of interest? Any interesting events / facts in the area of Kilmer / Salada / Hungry Hollow?
  21. Does anyone know if any pictures, air checks, fliers, posters, equipment, etc. still exist from when WCED was in it's heyday? (1941 - prior to being bought out, not sure of date..) It would be nice to preserve any history that could be found that is associated with WCED.
  22. Actually, among the very first movies to be shown at The Twin Cinemas were "Rocky" and "Freaky Friday". "The Deep" came well after the theaters' opening.
  23. I'm guessing anywhere from 1890 to 1910.
  24. Perhaps others might have pictures of the '72 flood that they'd like to post. I was about 8 when this happened, also. I remember seeing in the paper a couple pictures of the carnival (that used to be held behind the bus station, now Martins) flooded out, and the kiddie cars up to their fenders in water.
  25. Very interesting....thank you for that link. A few intereting Dubois-specific stories there, about DRMC, Luthersburg Field, and others. Anyone else have stores?
