Solving Crimes Against Animals
      PSU conference teaches vets investigation techniques.   UNIVERSITY PARK, MARCH 27, 2015(AP)-------- - The techniques we've all see on CSI may soon be used to help solve animal crimes. This weekend, Penn State is hosting the first ever veterinary forensic pathology conference.
A forensic pathologist determines the cause of death by examining a body after death. At this conference, forensic pathologists who investigate human deaths, are teaching their veterinary counterparts how to use those techniques on animals.
 
Veterinary Pathologist Jason Brooks says, "people are becoming more and more concerned about animal crimes, animal neglect, and animal abuse. They're pushing officers to investigate and prosecute crimes against animals, more so than in the past."
Brooks says the three day conference, hosted by the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences and the Forensic Science Program at Penn State has drawn veterinary pathologists from all over North America.
They're focusing on everything from gunshot wounds to DNA analysis. Brooks  says they're learning to better process cases which will help law enforcement prosecute crimes against animals.

I got an email sent to me last night from Marcia Golubski who scanned a photo of Buzz with some local hill boys.
 
The local boys in the picture on the left are the Kutsel boys, Ron, Bobe & Mike.  Vic Tiskus on the bottom middle and I'm not sure who the other two are.
 

Adopted pets are funny-almost as if they "know" they're finally with someone that actually wants them. 
 
One of our beagles dies after less than 14 months, from liver cancer.  Vet told us the dog was sick for at least a year, if not longer and suspected previous owner gave the dog up instead of treating him.  Second beagle was a very old fellow-adoption papers said 7 or 8, but he looked double that, and acted like a geriatric beagle!  Great dog, followed me everywhere.  We did have another for a short time that was incorrigible and had to go back because of increasing aggressive behavior including non-playful biting.

I found these pictures floating around on the web and had to share them. I grew up with a dog who was abandoned and dropped off at a shelter. He had many problems, so much so that it is highly doubtful that another family would have taken him in. He would have been euthanized.

We've had three rescue beagles.  First two were older that only had a few years of life left with us.  Current beagle is quite the dog and only 5, so she'll be around for a while.

One of ours is a stray that adopted us. The other is a rescue that was abused. They definitely have issues, but I can't imagine what they went through before we got them. They are really loved (spoiled) now. I would take more if we could, but not in the budget.

My next dog will be a rescue. But for now................
