At least 25 years ago when I think BFI owned the landfill I knew a few operators who wanted to unionize. One of them even went to a nationwide company competition but that didn't stop them from being let go.
Rather than getting the Union to fight the individuals moved on to other jobs.

I would like to see them keep the groundhog population in check too!

My green pepper plants are pretty healthy looking but the peppers are not as big as I am used to. I can't remember where I bought the plants, they either came from the group down by Charlie's or the greenhouse on Juniata Street Ext. The tomatoes and zucchini are still producing too.
Our salads will not be the same when I have to use store bought produce!

Lots of good answers. I vote for this being the best thread of the week! I'm going to say 1952 as for the year of the photo.

I had a neighbor that I gave tomatoes to this year just drop off a thank you present. I told him I hope I have tomatoes to give away in 2011.
When we stopped at the grocery store this evening my wife asked if I had any fresh tomatoes left from the garden. I might have enough left for Christmas Eve dinner. I have never had tomatoes last as long as they have this year.
In 4 months it will be time to start all over again.

Thanks for sharing this. There are many other cool videos along with the tornado one too!

That would be cool!
Since the Kinzua Bridge blew down does anyone know if the sightseeing train still runs from Marienville thru Kane to Mt Jewett? If not then Kane does not need the station house.

It was laid out to be a city. Not sure what happened.
Mahaffey and Hyde were to be cities too.
Thank you for the info.
Back in the 1970's I was in Hyde quite a bit. If anyone asked me where I was working I would usually say in Sin City. Lots of trailer courts with a lot of shacking up going on!
Just kidding about Hyde being Sin City. There were a lot of nice & good people there too.

Why did they call it Lumber City?? I don't think it was big enough to be considered a city.

I just came in from cutting the last of my broccoli. I never expected to still be able to grow broccoli this late in the year.
Does anyone else grow anything in their garden in November?

The Flood was a result of Hurricane Agnes if my memory is correct.

I dug up some plants and transplanted them on Sunday & so far they seem OK. I have watered them every day but today, Mother Nature did it for me.

The idea that the mine managers and owners did not want colored's and help that could speak English! I wonder what the general managers would think if he went into a Walmart in Florida today. Everyone speaking Spanish & he'd be the only WASP in the store.
