Good deal!  It's a skill that needs to be acquired before buying or getting chicks or you will easily overrun a chicken coop with birds that are relatively useless.  I doubt I will be able to harvest them myself (although I know how) but I have no problem with someone else having a great chicken dinner, and knowing that bird will never suffer in its old age.  Obviously they don't go to a vet normally, so most people just let them die painfully.  That's really cruel and it's not going to happen here.

So sorry for her children.  Then must have been so well cared for and loved by her.  It will be a huge missing link for them.

I have been receiving some nice history on the tree's origins.  Also, the twigs they collected for me are starting to sprout!  Hopefully I soon see roots and can get them planted outside in pots.

There are various cultivars of San Marzano and some are much nicer but harder to get.  They change annually as breeders change directions.
 
This year we were gifted with the seeds of an heirloom Oxhart Tomato that came to the US in 1906 and has been grown by the same family locally ever since.  It is supposed to be the best tomato you will ever choose to grow but it is a long season tomato, maybe 100 days.

I was watering and feeding today and found a fig on the fig tree in the basement!  Considering that I have never had edible fruit on one of them before, I'm tickled pink!

How wonderful that you have roosters that lay eggs!  I'll bet you got a prize for them too.  By the way, some hens do crow.

Summerville is going exactly the wrong direction with this.  They should be organizing a good program that allows a controlled chicken habitat.  They are working on having a food desert.

It's depressing but then I should have bought property outside of a sub-division.
