  1. I put frontline plus on my dog and cat, It seems to work for my cat, but not my dog. I have been checking him daily and find a couple, but last night I found quite a few so I gave him a bath and got them (all i hope) He sleeps on my bed and I sure don't want fleas there. Help!!!!!

I think fleas develop resistance. I had to go to Advantage II for my cats.

  2. Thank-you for posting those pictures, it shows how hard people worked in those days, they took pride in their work and enjoyed what we take for granted, parade pictures were great, yes everyone stood, no one sat while watching the parade.

If anyone has a pic of Helvetia or Kramer Mines please post my Dad worked in both till they closed down.

Thank-you for sharing our for-fathers with us.

If you click on this link, you can see picture of the Helvetia Mine:

  3. Yes!  There is a sign in front of the house to the left.  It appears to have a cross similar to the Red Cross, but it's not a solid cross, on it.

I found this online but I haven't found a picture yet.

  4. That is the area I was thinking also.  There looks to be a church in the upper left corner that reminds me of the church in that area.

There doesn't appear to be a steeple on the church. In the early photos, the church's uptown all had steeples on the square towers.

  5. The building on the right is also a house, looks to be stone or brick with a stone porch.  Ladies on the upper balcony.

That appears to be a stream running just about the people and in front of the big house. I'm still checking out the people and what they're doing. In the original picture, to the left of the big house, there appears to be some sort of rectangular sign on a post. I could be wrong about that, but it sort of looks like it.

  6. Can you tell by looking at the real photo what is happening? This may be a clue to where it was taken. The people seem to be congregating in the middle. Note the people closest to the edge of the picture are probably wealthy. They have covered carriages and the women are dressed in nice hats. The people in the center all seem to be men and they're also very well dressed. There are individual horses standing there as well.

  7. Don't think that it could be in the Meadow. The rise on the ground is too high and it would also put the houses behind it there, too. I don't think there was ever that kind of building out there.

Near the Best Western and Foradora Insurance.  But after looking at it some more, that is not the Business College, It had many more dormers.

  8. Cherry Springs is well known as a destination for amateur astronomers. There are some 'scopes there that would rival some of what NASA has!

I've been trying to get up that way to use them for a couple years. They are supposed to even have a solar telescope.

  9. I think the tunnels are neat because I like local history. My buddy Bon loaned me a book on the Austin dam break in 1911. Now I want to go up there and explore the area.

I've driven by there lots of times but never got out to investigate. I want to also get up that way to see the darkest park east of the Mississippi.

  10. I will gladly help lead anyone through the upper tunnel and safely down the hill to the lower tunnel lol), but I will not go to the lower (active) tunnel as night falls. Never again will I go through seeing or feeling anything like that in my life again. And I like ghosts, I have a hobby of hunting them...but that thing, that was just demonic in nature.  To feel a child like apparition hold onto my boot as I walked and then turn around and see the fog  at the entrance turn into a human form at the other end walking back and forth (as if a warden) was enough for me.

In the lower tunnel? I didn't see a thing. The upper tunnel is the one that gave me the heebie-jeebies. The hair on the back of my neck was standing on end.

  11. Went to the tunnels in Sabula last summer with Bon and family.

The most frightening thing I encountered was SOB trying to get us off of the hill from the upper tunnel. :D

Heck, it's easier getting down that hill than up it. Just sit on your backside and slide.

  12. Through research last night I found out that Dachshunds are prone to seizures.  We have owned 5. and this is the first one to get them.

She is quite happy today with the sun shinning and running around the driveway/yard today. :)

I never knew about the seizures. Glad to hear she is back to her old self today! :)

  13. She will be 8 in July. She has a bulging disk in her neck.

We ended up with a ruptured disc when he was 15.  People thought we were nuts, but we opted for back surgery at Metzgers in State College. He lived a happy healthy life for 3 more years. Metzgers is an amazing place.
