Sanibel reacted to Petee in Water Collection Tanks
Yahoo, we're finally collecting water! In just a week or so of rains the tanks are almost full and we are already using it to water plants. Check them out behind Charlie's Alternators, and visit the gardens while you're there. The Hydrangea is so beautiful.
Thank you to JLP for all of his help in doing jobs that are too heavy or complicated to do alone without some muscle. Thank you also to Gator for getting the tanks for us.

The error that sits and spins, should be okay now.
If you are still sitting & spinning, I would check the chair your sitting on.

Ok, so define that procedure? If I wanted to floor in an entire cell with sludge, there is nothing but common sense stopping me from doing that. What percentage of sludge is too much to maintain a stable working face? How many tons of trash have to be available to mix with X amount of sludge? What do you do when it's raining and the sludge coming in doubles? What do you do when you are sliver filling an outside slope, where you can't put sludge?
The simple answer to all of those questions is to set a limit on how much you can take, but when a government office makes a vague statement about "improper handling" after a fatality, then there is nothing these companies will change. They can just point at Greentree and say "They handled it wrong, won't happen to us".
I'm just so disgusted by all of this, I thought it may bring about change, but it looks like it won't happen

I know there was a thread here a while back about a vet who will come to your home, but I can't find it. Can someone give me the name of the vet? I have to say goodbye to a friend with cancer. Thank you.

Last spring Hubby built two raised beds for the garden. they're 4 x 10. I have to say that the raised beds do better than just planting in the ground. He thought about making more this spring, but I talked him out of it Maybe next year. I keep saying that we have to cut back! Everything seems to come in at the same time and it's hard to get everything done every day along with all of the regular ordinary things that have to be attended to. I have two bushels of picked peppers that need tended to and I don't know how I'm going to find the time, but I'm going to get them done!
Oh and back to my green and wax beans that I've planted three times. I've felt from the beginning that it's rabbits. SO I've sprayed and sprayed the stinky Liquid Fence around the perimeter of the garden religiously and also around the beans. And we have an electric fence. I also made up rabbit sprays and used them. I sprinkled crushed egg shells around them. I was in that garden most of the day yesterday and the beans looked good for being the third round. I go up this morning and once again, most of them were eaten!!! ONLY the beans! The sweet peas and lettuce are in the next row and not touched, nothing but the beans. I'm done, let them eat them and enjoy them as long as they let the rest alone.

Cabbage is doing great.
I love the purple ones.
My wife said she is going to cook them and make me eat it since I planted it. I don't like cabbage. Except for pigs in a blanket.
I just like planting different stuff and seeing how it does.
My wife is planning on making sauerkraut with the other ones.
Cauliflower is doing well.
Cauliflower is doing well.
and so are the tomatoes.

Hey, that's the way to do it!! Far less work and worry. Look at those cute little poof butts!
Hubby was checking their food and water this evening and was worried because they are eating less. I said to remember that there are now 3 mouths instead of seven!

Sanibel reacted to Bon in Azalia
Sanibel just might be right!! We lost 2 or 3 holly bushes, our rhodies looked terrible till hubby trimmed the hell out of them (beautiful this spring), & the same with our lilacs. Very few flowers this spring because he only wanted to do 1 kind of bushes a year. I would say trim off the bad branches a little at a time. This is besides feeding it. If you decide to put wood chips or pine needles under the bush, do not put them right up against the bark. Don't put any mulch up against your shrubs or tree's ever!! That's inviting bugs & fungus problems.
I hope that helped you some, if not, keep asking questions. We will get to the root of the problem!! LOL

Sanibel reacted to lavender in Azalia
Building on Sanibel's idea there are all sorts of azaleas. Some are evergreen and some are deciduous. These varieties are native to different climates and have different degrees of cold tolerance and heat tolerance. Then there are the hybrids so it is difficult to know how hardy an azalea actually is unless you bought it with a tag. It is entirely possible that you hit close to the tolerance range of your azalea. Bon's suggestions are good ones and hopefully it will pull through.
All of my azaleas have survived the past winters except one miniature one. I recently picked up one on sale at Loew's but should have known better. It looked as though the frost had hit it. When I started to plant it I looked at the tag and it is only hardy to zone 6. I'm not expecting it to survive for many years. Maybe I'll get lucky and the roots will make it through.

Sanibel reacted to steelnut in Azalia
Hubby trims everything judiciously every year and our rhodies and all of the others come back great. Now as to azaleas I know that I've planted at least 50 over the years, not one has survived and I babied them, followed all kinds of advice to no avail. Evidently they hate our soil. Pretty much like fruit trees. Our pear trees like our soil, apples are so so. Plums are a no go. I had two peach trees that lasted 20 years, only produced 7 times, but they were so good! They eventually gave up the good fight. I just had to admit and agree with hubby tonight that our best pear tree is also done for this year. I could cry, the very best pears that I've ever had from anywhere, but it's been slowly getting worse and worse. Hubby trims them each year and we've tried numerous things, but nothing is working. I thought about getting another like it, but we're getting older and by the time it would be ready to produce, I hope to be traveling? Yeah right, we'll be right here, who am I kidding.
