lavender got a reaction from Bon in How To Light A Campfire Without A Match
Let's see, I'm stuck out in the woods with no matches and not a house in sight but I happen to have an empty soda can and some chocolate. Plus I have sufficient sunlight and dry tinder. Two things that are sort of hard to find in the woods but moving on and assuming that I'm somewhere where both are present. What are the odds that I haven't eaten the chocolate? Slightly under 0. Maybe about a -5.

What a complete waste of chocolate!! If it's dark chocolate, proceed with polishing.

I just realized how many of my garden veggies are purple this year. Fairy Tale eggplant, purple tomantillo, Indigo Rose tomato and Russian purple kale. The purple cabbage isn't ready yet and the purple rutabagas aren't either. The Fairy Tale eggplant is only about 4-5 inches long but there are at least 10 of them on each plant and you can eat them skin and all. The flesh is creamy and delicious. Highly recommend this one.

lavender reacted to etsaunt in Big Bull under apple tree this morning
Watched this little one eating apples Saturday. Every one else was looking at them in the field and this one was standing down the road eating apples all by her self.

Yeah, I know. This one makes me nervous. I don't think I will be getting close to him to get pics. He shows up around 9ish in town & does his walk through.

Might want to stay out of his way. He seems a little confused as to what the enemy is.

Last night he was jousting with my hubby wheelbarrows. Hubby said he was making all kinds of noise out there. One is laying in the rock garden on its side, the other is standing up on its handles against the shed. He knocked the rakes and shovels around also. Pretty sure he tore up the hay again & sunk down into all the fill areas again. Hubby says maybe we should call him Tornado .. lol.
Someone said they are starting the rut season already, so he must be showing how tough he is!!

Maybe he mistook it for a giant apple.

lavender got a reaction from Bon in Help once again please
Depends on what you want to do. If you are just digging out plants and want to toss them you can do it now or anytime. The season for dividing plants depends on the plant. Most perennials and grasses are divided in the spring. Bulbs and peonies are divided in the fall. You can toss any extras our way. I'm potting for the spring plant sale.

Got some really nice cauliflower and banana peppers so far. A few cukes. Beans are OK but not like last year when I ran out of freezer space and had to can them.

Go with a high nitrogen fertilizer for the beginning of the onion's growth and then a high potassium fertilizer when the bulbs start to form. We dump our wood ashes in the onion patch as well.

It will depend upon the type of winter that we have - but I would say a prayer for it.

Things are picking up a bit. Broccoli has developed soft rot which means few side shoots. (Keeping a jar of bleach in the garden.) Cauliflower is OK but the heads are small. What cabbage that didn't get root rot from all the rain is doing fine. All summer squashes and cuckes are just starting to develop. Plants are a bit retarded. Kale was great and a new crop of lettuce is just starting. Got beets for the first time in 5 years. I switched types and used a different fertilizer which may have helped. Corn looks great but tomato plants are small for this time of year. Green beans are just OK but yellow beans are stunted. Eggplant and peppers are doing great which is unusual. Onions and peas are doing well. Tomantillos and winter squash are super.
Parts of the garden just were flooded with all the rain and crops that don't like a lot of moisture weren't happy. Parts of the garden that drained better fared better. Weeds are happiest of all.

Anytime I cut anything I dip the knife in the bleach so as not to carry bacteria from one plant to another. If no one is looking I toss a bit of the diluted bleach on the cut stem. No reference for the latter but what the heck.
You do know that if you crossed a weed with a tomato plant you would get the worst of both plants and it would grow all over the yard and be impossible to get rid of. They have crossed a tomato and a potato though. I looked up how to do it once but never tried it. One day when I get some time.
