The state will have a hand in setting up a new council and regulations to make sure this mafia style action isn't allowed to happen again.  Maybe mutual respect will actually become part of our lifestyle.  From the lowliest hidden home in the vale, to the grand mansions who think they are the norm and actually deserve special amenities, maybe they will see what has happened and develop some common sense, respect and compassionate values for all.

Hern was probably once a normal man long ago before his head got filled with whatever rot caused this situation.  I didn't know him then, but I could see that he cared for the city's best interests till he seemed to worry more about the flashiness of the city and his own ego.  The kids used to be the reason for the sports in the area till the games HAD to be winners, and bigger and bigger!  For gambling? Now kids can't even play unless they have enough money to join and are good enough to be a winner?  What about the kids who have no serious athletic skills and end up walking away from the game, hurt and alone till they meet a bunch of other aggravated kids to hang with?  When do they get to play team sports and improve?

When will the leaders realize that this life is about growing plain old families, and jobs to support them.  A reasonable amount of social fluff is fine as long as the basics are taken care of first.  What about the minds of our children?  What are they supposed to think when what's going on now is what they have to look forward to?  When do they get to grow and dream of a good life of personal success and happiness, not just a life of things.

    Applause!!

  3. My little garden looks "sad" but seems to be perking up since we are getting some sunshine.  Something tried to dig up my cucumber plants so I caged them, something was eating the leaves on my flowers, but that seems to have stopped and Chipmunks dug up some flowers that were planted in a different area and just tossed them aside (finally got to see what was doing that. ) Never had such a terrible year with everything planted!  I feel like I live at T.L.  An over abundance of Squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits this year and I live in town.

  4. Was last seen on Forest Ave.  Main Street area.   I would say Main Street, State Street, Spring Ave and even across Main St. since she was on Forest Ave.  Its hard to tell with cats.  Shes very sweet. and very loved and missed.

  5. See those wet spots on the leaves? That plus the rot is what makes me think that you have iris borers. It is extremely hard to save irises when they are infested but maybe some of them can be rescued. Dig up anything that appears to be infected. Cut off all of the rot and leaves and inspect the tubers. You may be able to dig out any borers at this point. After you have cleaned up the tubers soak them for 10 minutes in a solution of 1 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water. This will get rid of any borers and disinfect the tubers. Let them dry thoroughly. Then you can replant elsewhere. The elsewhere is important as the larvae are also in the soil. Choose a sunny spot with good drainage and plant shallowly. If your other irises are close by you may want to move them all. You will forfeit blooms but may save the plant.

It is more or less useless to spray for borers after the descend into the tuber but the newly hatched  larvae do feed on the leaves so spraying the plants that appear to be unaffected might keep the larvae from getting into the tubers and keep the tubers from starting to rot.(Small holes in the leaves, ragged edges and those wet spots indicate feeding.)  Getting rid of these nasties is mostly prevention and sanitation. You can read the link below from the Missouri Botanical Garden. It sums up the prevention measures and also tells you what insecticides are effective.

About 5 years ago I had an infestation. i lost some of the plants and saved some. Curiously I dusted the tubers with Comet cleanser that contained bleach. It seemed to work but then I didn't have a bad infestation. I also uses a systemic insecticide once or twice around the non-infected irises. I've had borers wipe out a very large patch of iris plants that had been there for years. They are nasty critters and you have to be vigilant.

So nice to have you on here Lavender to help us with our planting problems!

  6. I'd say leave them alone. Daylilies usually take care of themselves. If the leaves are just yellow they may not be dead but just haven't developed cholophyl

yet. If they were under snow or mulch they could be experiencing chlorosis. This will clear up. If the leaves are dead they will wilt and disappear.

Why take the chance on cutting back living leaves when it isn't necessary? I just went out to look at mine and the deer have eaten them all

down to the ground so I couldn't say what the tips looked like.

They are wilted.  I will follow your advice, you know better then I do.  Thanks again so much for your help!
