Bravo that they are for you and in discreet places but our young people may not have that much common sense as to how they choose to aim their future and it's consequences.

I think this falls right in with kids who are convinced that the pre-teen body (which almost all kids hate) in their youth may well mature at some time to their liking.  Then they can adjust as they see fit.  If they are old and mature enough to cut off parts of their body then they can also assume responsibility for the reactions and consequences of those actions that they will receive.

I am on the other side of the page in that I felt God did not make us to waste unusual amounts of money on our appearance, nor did I want to have people gawking at what wasn't the norm then.  I'm so glad that I had the sense not to do such a thing to myself.  I would have regretted and felt limited by it it as an adult.  I used to go eat at a place where the one waitress had some sort of a satanic face on her chest that I absolutely hated to look at.  Under her clothes when she's working is fine, but impressionable kids shouldn't have that stuff pushed in front of their faces, thinking it's the norm when they have not yet learned what the norm entails or where it will take you in life.  Education and financial responsibility need to be learned and earned first.  They also need to learn to respect the skin that God gave them and treasure the normalcy and health of it.

I am always suspicious of any person who has vast amounts of tattoos that they choose to wear like a billboard.  I suspect that the statement they are making is a plea for others to admire them or to warn them to stay away when all they really want is to be loved and cared for by someone else.

    I respect your opinion.

The God I believe in gave all of us free will, and teaches us to not judge others.  That is His job.

As an aside, I once saw a young lady with hair the color of the summer sky that was mad because people stared at her.  So I do think you have a very valid point about attention seeking.

You're welcome!  And sadly she started "looking out" for the City a little too late!

It's almost as if the lightbulb went on that said that the "status quo" wasn't working.  Sometimes people pretend at their jobs and are able to fake it for a really long time until people realize that they don't know what they are doing.  I'm not sure if it was willful blindness, zero training/knowledge, blind allegiance, or just pure laziness.

to add to that: I'm sure someone's "good guy" façade had people fooled.  I would bet there were more times than not that he said said, "don't worry--I got this" all the while duping us all to a point while he absconded with gift bags full of money.

Guy by save a lot on Brady st Donahue behind church by golf course

Joe Nelson is the guy on Brady near Kwik Fill.  His number is 771-1076.  He has always been fair with pricing and does good work.  He has fixed many things for me over the years.

Wht are a lot if women using so many names these days?  Instead of Jasmine Broock. Its Jasmine Annette Reed Smith Broock. Or more??? Just wondering.

Depending on where the person originated from, it may be because it's a common name and it's a way to differentiate who is who.  I have ancestors whose last name was Smith.  I would imagine this "trend" may have been really helpful for John and Mary Smith.

They are seeking attention, so if it makes them feel better, then they just follow the crowd and do it regardless of how it really makes them look, just like tattoos, smoking, drinking, etc.

Umm.  I am an educated professional and I have tattoos.  (I am also a former smoker.  I rarely drink and never to excess any longer because I grew up and don't like how I feel afterwards.)

I have the tattoos I have for me--each of them has very special meaning to me.   They aren't for vanity.  They are discreet and easily hidden because I am a professional and some people judge others for what they choose to do with their own bodies.

No need to paint people with such a broad brush stroke.

  6. I hear "the establishment" is mounting a smear campaign against at least one of the write-in candidates for "sins" committed over 30 years ago.

The woman owned her mistake--which turns out to not be a mistake given the outcome.  And has been honest and forthright about other mistakes or missteps she has made.

The only perfect human died on the cross.

Shame on those that would attempt to disparage her.  I would rather work with someone that can own their mistakes than attempt to cover them up.

A half an hour ago at the softball field there was Herm and our newest interim acting city manager together. Maybe doing some plotting?

The report by the interim seems to be essentially absolving the previous is cause for concern this early in the game.

I see that Jennifer Jackson aka Jennifer Torell(Jennifer Jackson Torell) is running.

I am not sure how you spell Torell.

    She owns Brady street Florist.

I just saw her facebook video and thought I would share it to you folks at GoDuBois. I do not know her personally other than stopping in a couple times to buy flowers in the past.

Here is her video. I hope she doesn't mind me posting it. About 1:15 in the video is where she announces her write-in campaign.

I truly believe she has the area's best interests at heart.  I hope a few more like-minded people step up to join her.

I was told by a relative of his that it comes from St. Herman, and has to do with a renaming during his communion. Some type of Catholic thing.

Odd, I was raised Catholic and never heard of St. Herman until just reading this.  I simply used my chosen name for the Confirmation only.   After google provided me with who he was, I dug a little deeper, and let's just say--ever odder now.

Thanks for the insight--and the chuckle.

Your attitude is part of the problem, you can't consider a better community in spirit, just the old one because you don't like change, even for the betterment of the spirit of the whole.

I assume the "attitude" comment was directed at me.  You don't know me at all.  Oddly enough, I personally stand to gain more by a change than many others, but I still don't think it's a necessary change.

We don't need a new NAME.  We need united instead of fighting over silly things that aren't essential.  This "US versus YOU" stuff is the problem.  You can change the name of this area that has this zip code to anything you'd like, but the name is not the problem.  The mindset is the problem.  Changing a name won't fix that.  This is tantamount to slapping some lipstick on a pig and calling it pretty.

Kevin can legally change his name to Brian, and his family will still probably call him Kevin.

We are DuBois.  The city residents as well as the Sandy Township residents.  So we are going to spend money changing signs when we could put it into important things like streets, trees, water lines, sewage lines, that's wasteful and unnecessary.

Oh, and for the record, I own property in the city AND in the township.

The name DuBois means nothing.  We are handled by a zip code.  Without it, your mail doesn't even get delivered.  So, change the name for the benefit of everyone, some to learn from, and others to be less stressed by, and start fresh with an entirely new outlook.

I knew Mr DuBois and spoke to him quite a bit well before he passed away.  He was almost totally defeated by "DuBois" and disrespected by the government despite the fact that his forefathers built the town.  I don't even think he would be displeased if a change in name was a factor in creating a better future for this area.

    Respectfully, I disagree.

Changing the name will not change the makeup of our population, nor will it change the mindset of the population.  Change simply for the sake of change is silly.  The name is not the problem--the population is.

We can be united and be one without adopting some new name.  My mention of the DuBois, PA on the mail in the area is already proof of that--like it or not the Sandy Township residents are effectively DuBois, PA residents currently.

The garbage contract was begun in 2008 and has been renewed twice. It runs out in 2028. At some point Advance Disposal started donating 60 grand a year to the city that the city kept in a non audited account.

I think you are stuck with the  current company.

    https://gantnews.com/2018/03/29/dubois-council-renews-advanced-disposal-contract/

I guess it would be nice if they'd at least allow some competition for dumpster rentals.

     The Sherman Antitrust Act

An unlawful monopoly exists when one firm controls the market for a product or service, and it has obtained that market power, not because its product or service is superior to others, but by suppressing competition with anticompetitive conduct.

  14. In light of recent developments, is there any possibility of the current trash contract being opened up?  The powers that be have essentially tied us to a monopoly as things stand currently.

The last time I needed to rent a dumpster for a home improvement project I was limited to using the "big company" because of my address.
